I just received a text from my friend (I'll call him Bob Incognito).

Man, I was just downtown, and there is NO one down here! All the shops are closed, and I haven't seen one police! Like literally, downtown Portland is a ghost town!

Of course, he sent me this text at 3:15 AM, but that's besides the point.

Also, totally unrelated, I got this tweet from a cousin of mine who lives in Baltimore. She said this.

Get this. I just saw a video on the tweets that said a crowd of 90K antifa roamed through Portland, tore up the grass at Tom McCall waterfront park, pooped in the Salmon Street Springs, pee'd on Portlandia and stole a bunch of stuff from Pioneer Place!

Oh wait, sorry, I'm thinking of Jan 6th, and the US Capitol, and it wasn't Antifa but Trump followers. My bad.

So.........no matter what, the news you don’t like is ALWAYS “fake”.........but when it comes to Portland you believe everything you hear. Like it or don’t, you can’t have it both ways. Not at all. He’s welcome to his opinion. He actually resides here. But by “googling” you can find absolutely anything you want to support whatever it is you choose to believe. Those of us who live here choose to believe our own eyes....and our own experiences. There’s a certain amount of arrogance involved in sitting 2500 miles away and pontificating on things you don’t have any kind of real handle on......

Look, when I guided you towards actually looking at Google news feeds that point towards Portland unrest/rioting, I'm also sarcastically pointing out that, indeed, Portland isn't the "bastion for peace, serenity, and well being". Sorry for no green font.

When it comes to political unrest, no matter the size and/or frequency, Portland continues to lead the nation in outbursts and crime/violence. Hence, the continuous news pieces on the matter. I mean, seriously, can you name another city with such a dubious distinction, or are you purposely trying to be obtuse?
