You can't fire Chauncey until after he wins a championship.
So technically we could fire him now, then

I would try to kick Billups upstairs. Make Cronin president of badketball operations and Billups GM.

Classy move by the Bucks given that his brother died during that playoff series...

I don't think thats a reason to not fire someone. Is it better to have him work the entire summer then fire him in October? He still gets paid a boatload, its not like Bud has to go down to a restaurant and flip burgers to pay rent.

Bud brother dieing is bigger than baskeball or his job or anything.

Players like Jerami Grant really like Billups and rumors are some other players like Jaylen Brown like him too. I never heard of any player wanting to force their way to Atlanta or Milwaukee to play for Bud.

No sense in firing Billups when the team is nowhere near contending. He has developed young guys like Sharpe well. If some good starters force their way to the Blazers as Grant did and want to play with Billups then we should give them at least a season to do it.

Plus Jody is cheap, and likely doesn't want to pay two coaches. I'd rather they put any extra money to improving the roster first. Why pay two head coaches for the same season when the roster can't contend?

How do you know Jody is cheap. Why waste money on the luxury tax, especially repeater tax, when you don't have the right parts yet. She signed Dame, Ant, Nurk to very nice money deals. That's not being cheap. If Joe can acquire the right pieces, i'd be shocked if she wouldn't allow the team to exceed the tax line. She's investing in the team and arena. That's not cheap. This ain't the movie, Major League.

Solid points about players liking Billups. Might have to keep him while building our talent level.

Chauncey is good with the kids. He gives the starters a long runway to pad their stats and play fake defense. Coach understands it's just a game, go out there and have some fun.

Spending lots of Jody's money on a new coaching staff is out of the question. Billups is a nice coach to the players. Winning games with better coaches is not a priority, as long as the trade deadline tank window remains open.

Tell that to Dame

I’m sorry you feel bad about the Blazers—they’ve been crap the last two seasons and mid for even longer—but this is some strange storytelling you have here.

Any chance Bud's next job is not a head coach gig?

It was snowing in Portland in April and as I understand Portland now is the devils territory.
This tells me there is a chance!
Hell already frosh over when Texas froze a couple years ago.

Jebuz! First, after doing a search for Chauncey to find the appropriate thread to ask a Q, I see there's like 10 threads about firing, or when will he be fired, or he has to go, etc. :smiley-195517897341

I just wanted to ask for those of you who have been down on him, what are your thoughts now and for the future? DO you still feel the same? Have you changed your mind? still on the fence?

I still don't know if he is the guy to take us down the home stretch, but he sure seems like the guy for molding a young team into potential contenders with the right type of philosophy(defence, hard work and togetherness).

What say you?
