Perimeter DEFENSE! Our rotations suck! If a team makes 3 or more passes against us we seem to get lost and I don't get it. Every team seems to end up with one of their best shooters taking a wide open 3. I'm not sure if it's a lack of recognition of who exactly to be concerned about on the opposing team or what. I hope we get this solved soon though.

No you didn't. Portland having poor perimeter defense seems to be a majority opinion.

ive said since november, we cant guard the other teams swing men..cobo guards...etc. Ive said our back up PF situation is awful. Ive said our SF play needs a massive upgrade and last ive been begging for KP to trade fr a third scorer.


And now in almost January...the board is starting to realize i was right 2 months ago lol. You could see this coming a mile away.

Your guys best move actually would be to sit on stuff, try to get your capspace, and then pay Gordon to get him to come over in the summer. Gordon/Roy are a natural fit together in the backcourt, and it would make the Portland offense absolutely deadly. Then it would just be a matter of time of Oden coming into his own before the defense picks up.

Although I do hope you guys waste your capspace on someone like Hinrich, or have Memphis screw you, so you don't get a chance to steal Gordon away.

Nate/Dean are big proponents of zone defense and several opposing players have made comments about us showing much more zone than is typical. Anyone that's ever played against a zone knows that it makes shooters drool... Zones are great at packing the paint or keying in on one perimeter player, but they're mostly crap for covering all the shooters. Add in the extremely poor lateral mobility of our PG's (at least, the ones that play) and our inability to cover the pick and roll without switching, and it's no surprise that we give up great shooting nights nearly every game.

It somewhat amazes me that we're as good as we are despite these rather significant shortcomings. I think it's a testament to the collection of individual talent. I just hope they can someday thrive in a more balanced system.

Let's be clear, even if Miles plays the Blazers could still have up to 15ish million in cap room to play around with. And to hell with Ben Gordon.

we are a very poor zone team, and i'd prefer if we never play it. that being said, if we go more man-to-man we need a better defensive PG than blake or sergio. if only bayless had a jumpshot i'd trust.
