It doesn't say they are offering their pick for Okafor, it says they are floating their pick for the best offer that they think will help the team. I know it could mean they are making that offer, but it doesn't say that exactly.

That is connecting the dots. But it doesn't say they offered it specifically for Okafor. Just that they are pursuing him. They could be pursuing him with two seconds for all we know. Because if they did say they will give up their first then the deal would be done imo.

Yea, you're right, I'm inferring based on all available information

Need to watch Philly. 2 calls today saying we are discussing Okafor

It seems like the Blazers are very good about not having leaks, so I'm just curious why someone is calling you and telling you these things, but no one in the national media knows? Not that I don't believe you, just seems odd.

Who has the scouting report on Okafor?

He seems like a plodding C who doesn't play D. Why do we want him?

His PER36 numbers are like identical to Nurkic. What's the point?

Only reason I would take him at a discount is because he does have value around the league and I would try to flip him this off-season or next deadline for something we really need.

I am glad we didn't get him before Nurkic (or only - instead of Nurkic) though.

All about asset accumulation. I just wouldn't give up much. But Neil has reportedly had a boner for him for some time. I don't see it personally.

Because he's just some random dude, and not associated with the media?

Could be for several reasons, the 1st is we have had zero inside scoring at all starter bench or otherwise. The other is investing in assets by buying low and selling high. Nurk has enough midrange to be able to play high low with Okafor working the block.

Then what's Philly's incentive to not do the same and wait to trade him? Not like they're in win now mode. And they have shown that they are totally OK with showcasing players.

Doesn't it give anyone some pause that Philly is openly shopping and wanting to unload a 21 yr old in his second year?

Because he is 3rd on the depth chart at Center for them and is going to get DNP: coaches decision for them in that case. Can't build up any value when another team never sees you play. We would play him especially in this lost season.

Hmm I don't think I would ever call him a slow plodding center based on what I've seen.

Getting Okafor doesn't make a lot of sense to me.... but who knows? :dunno:

My guess:

He loses value the longer he stays with Philly. They clearly have no need for him, and teams know he will be moved because he's not going to earn enough minutes.

He can build his trade value somewhere else where he is going to get consistent playing time.

Okafor feels like a Thomas Robinson type of case. I hope not if he ends up in pdx but makes one wonder if he isn't smart enough to absorb defensive schemes or his attitude issues are more than advertised?

If you trade for Okafor, you're basically trading for an okay prospect, not an okay player. Right now, he's a poor NBA player--bad defense, mediocre rebounding, mediocre scoring efficiency.

You're basically banking on him figuring things out. Even if he does, I think the ship has sailed on him being the dominant scorer many envisioned when he was being drafted. I think the absolute best-case scenario for him now is Enes Kanter with absolutely no certainty he reaches that level.

It's like growing Tomatoes from seed... You put more than one seed in the hole so have twice the probability that a plant grows.

Okafor is way more talented than Robinson.

I am mixed on Okafor but last yr when given minutes he has already proven he's way better than Trob as he avg's 17.5/7 as a rookie. Por does need bigs badly and he's on a rookie contract for 2 yrs after this and we need that too. Maybe he and Nurk can work together and maybe they can't, but we can likely have both guys have a good chance to improve their value, get enough minutes and see who works best. If we can get him cheap then perhaps it's worth a shot - I am meh on it.

I wouldn't trade for Lopez, he will be 29 in a month, has another year left at $22mil and isn't even as good of a rebounder as Meyers Leonard....

no thx on Brolo, I think we go younger/cheaper on C's or PF/C's for now unless a great deal comes along

Have another call here shortly....hopefully will get an update on that but have a meeting right after so probably can't post till after 1:00 Pacific Time.

I know this was directed at @Mediocre Man but I asked about him and got a definite 'No'. MM....is that what you are hearing as well?

Makes sense. Neil is bargain shopping folks. Whether we compete for the playoffs this year or not, it won't be bolstered by adding a marquee player at the deadline.

If we can get a nice young piece at a price that he deems is a value, he'll do it. If he can help facilitate another trade where we benefit more than we give up, he'll do it. But he's not going to sell the farm for somebody that's not a needle mover.

Neil is what a lot of GMs call an "expand and contract" guy, and he's still expanding...
