Stumbled on to the Whistleblower podcast. It's a new look into the Tim Donaghy scandal.

Listened to the beginning of episode 1 last night as I was falling asleep and it was awesome. Starts off with Rasheed Wallace. Great storytelling.

Here is the short introduction.

And here you can find episode 1.

I said for years Sheed was right most of the times he called out a ref...people wanted him to be the next bad guy Dennis Rodman of the league...Sheed got completely neutralized and it wore on him..I saw it in the Laker series just last week...swallowing whistles and letting the other team shoot free throws if you breathe on them. CJ and Melo were getting hacked to pieces in the paint all series without getting free throws

To make the Donaghy scandal go away, David Stern said as little as he could. Otherwise it would have been discussed more thoroughly for years.

Stern claimed that the corruption was only one referee-deep, but that doesn't explain how the Lakers won series against Portland and Sacramento because referees wouldn't let centers Sabonis and Divac play.

without biased officiating is harden significantly better than CJ?

ok, but mvp better?
edit: harden only makes 44% from 2 and 35.5%from 3 plus turn the ball over between 4 and 5 times a game. would be a lot more turnovers and misses without the bailouts.
Pss. Might be the only starter in the nba to play even less defense than CJ

The NBA is the only major sports league where the officials answer directly to the league. Every other major sports league they are autonomous and self governing mostly to remove the perception that the league is manipulating the results. Following the Donaghy scandal Stern publicly promised that would end, but time passed and nothing changed. This is how the league wants it.

Not gonna lie, the podcasts have been making me even more jaded. The way how Donaghy just so matter of factly says that the NBA is not a test of athletic ability, but just entertainment is alarming (moreso his tone about this than the content of his message).

This is really well produced. Recommended for sure.

I don't see how the NBA can embrace and partner with sports gambling. Too much chance for fraud.

Lots of $ in sports gambling. The NBA might not do it as it could interfere with their established money streams...
