The one in question had players scratching their head....
Hes not a good coach. We win in spite of him.

Reading these trade grades was a little sobering for me. B's and a C for Blazers. A's and a B for Miami. Here is one quote: "he’s incapable of defending well in space, and that drop coverage Portland may employ against pick-and-roll action will be even worse. Whiteside wants to live at the rim on defense and deter shots. Teams love to attack him in these situations because they know they can get clean look after clean look when they pull up short of trying to score at the rim. For a team like Portland, this could end up shredding their defense or force CJ McCollum and Lillard to keep improving at navigating screens on the perimeter."

Yeh, I think one of the other guys doing the grading felt that way. That's the defense Stotts plays anyway, so what difference does it make? Nurkic doesn't run out to the shooters, he waits at the hoop, unless it's his own guy.

Contending for a WCF title, a contract year, and minus the distractions of South Beach might just be what’s needed to bring out Whitesides full potential.
Whiteside D > Kanter D

Giving up Whiteside/Richardson and a 1st for Nards and Cap space(Jimmy) isn’t winning imo either.I’m actually shocked anyone thinks Miami won this trade. Perhaps we’re living in a bubble?
If it were only one game, no one would really have an issue with it. There have been many other equally head-scratching moves that are very reasonable to at least question. Also, even if it was just one game (which hasn't been the case) WHY IN THE NAME OF BILL SCHONELY would a coach ever design that type of game plan? That doesn't seem out of the realm of objectivity to ask.
I think it's a deal the helps both sides.I’m actually shocked anyone thinks Miami won this trade. Perhaps we’re living in a bubble?

Harkless going to the Clippers
Who is that in your avatar? Looks like- pissed off " George Casandra ". Which Blazer is it?CloseRondae Hollis-Jefferson.
Yep!I think it's a deal the helps both sides.
They really like Bam and Whiteside had become a bit of a malcontent.
Portland has loaded up on wings and needed a big that could hold serve while Nurk gets heatlhy.
>That would be as cool as Babe Ruth going to the Yankees from Boston .Palm Beach Post columnist Tom D'Angelo on 620am this morning absolutely trashing Whiteside. "He was lazy, he's immature, he only cares about his stats, Heat fans are going to boo him mercilessly, they'd have given him away for nothing..." Also saying that there's a chance that we could get peak Whiteside for 4 months, maybe if he holds a grudge against Miami and wants to show them what they're missing. Specifically told stories about Hassan checking stat sheets after losses and coming out saying "I did my job".
People were saying way worse things about Kanter's defense. Whiteside will be fine.Reading these trade grades was a little sobering for me. B's and a C for Blazers. A's and a B for Miami. So what if there are some headscratching decisions? Every coach does.
You seem to set baseline expectations at perfection and any headscratching decision should result in being fired.
Try looking at the total body of work and team success, given the talent level, instead of cherry picking negative data points.
Perfection? Please let me know where ANYONE mention anything about perfection or anything close to it. As for body of work, I take his entire body of work into consideration. Like a grand total of 20 playoff wins in 11 years as a head coach.
4 of those wins are courtesy of Simons going nuts against SAC or the Blazers would have played the Warriors in the 2nd round this year.
11 years....20 wins. Not sure how much more body of work someone wants.
I think this will be the strongest test the Blazers “culture” will see. I know most people had their issues with ET, Moe, ML, and Aminu but they were all young, they all bought in and they all said yes we will fall in line, we will let Dame lead, when things go bad we will trust him.
This year will be the strongest test the team faces in regards to that. Bazemore is an older player, Whiteside is an older player that Miami fans are ecstatic to be rid of. I know Portlands been the “reclamation group” for several players the last few years but this feels different to me. Its not a bunch of young guys trying to figure out there way in the NBA its older guys on expiring deals who want their last payday.
Im not saying it’s going to fail, Im just saying I think its going to be very interesting how things pan out, because I think many of us assume oh guys come here get ingrained in the culture and love it, but the culture will probably change, guys like ML and ET and Aminu part of their role was to ease guys into the culture to befriend new players and support them.
Talent wise I think our roster looks much better, but its going to be a much different year with so many new faces and some old ones who were frustrating on the court but good off the court.
Ive spoken to a few Miami fans and no they’re pissed because they thought Whiteside chased stats (blocks) instead of playing good defense. They thought he would pout when he didnt get his way, and they thought he only played hard when he felt like it. Some of those things have been said about other guys Portland has brought in. Im in favor of the move dont get me wrong, I just think this year will be a very interesting test for the Blazer culture. Its not a 23 year old that hasnt been paid before, its a 30 year old who’s got his money.Miami fans are pissed because their team overpaid to keep a guy on a team that they never should have kept. It made no sense at the time. They were paying him star money but he's not the kind of player that can carry a team. He was at his best when Wade and Bosh were still there. Wade left and it was up to him to carry the team, which he's just not that kind of player.
