Exclusive Whiteside To Portland

Whiteside’s on-court impact has been questioned. At his worst, Whiteside has been critiqued as an unmotivated stat-chaser who gambles on defense and lacks the fundamentals to play proper pick and roll coverage without tripping over his own feet.
Sigh. An "Unmotivated Stat-Chaser" doesn't generally lead the league in rebounds per 36, like he did just last year.

Yep, they resign him a couple years back for 98million 4 years. They must of really hated his contribution to the team and chemistry.

Well chances are his attitude was part of what got him benched.
I'm sure you've got a point. Go ahead, get it out.

Yes, he's immature. As I've explained, Miami's culture is based on DISCIPLINE, ours is based on SUPPORT. There may be a bump or two in the road, but I expect very few problems. I also expect us to being an average or above average rebounding team instead of dead last, which we would very possibly be without him (and Nurk).

Miami fans....not sure if you guys have noticed but Miami fans are at the disco...not the game...the Heat have a terrible home court ...and the worst radio broadcast guys I've ever listened to....it's the opposite of Portland...

I remember the rep about McGee over the years was bad but he's seems to have grown up and played pretty well in his role.

Perfection? Please let me know where ANYONE mention anything about perfection or anything close to it. As for body of work, I take his entire body of work into consideration. Like a grand total of 20 playoff wins in 11 years as a head coach. 4 of those wins are courtesy of Simons going nuts against SAC or the Blazers would have played the Warriors in the 2nd round this year. 11 years....20 wins. Not sure how much more body of work someone wants.

It's okay, TBpup. People dont like looking at things that show we have an inadequate coach that gets carried.

I said I liked the move. Im not trying to sound negative, I just think it’ll be a unique challenge.

Ive spoken to a few Miami fans and no they’re pissed because they thought Whiteside chased stats (blocks) instead of playing good defense. They thought he would pout when he didnt get his way, and they thought he only played hard when he felt like it. Some of those things have been said about other guys Portland has brought in. Im in favor of the move dont get me wrong, I just think this year will be a very interesting test for the Blazer culture. Its not a 23 year old that hasnt been paid before, its a 30 year old who’s got his money.
well he is now in a contract year and if he wants to even play or see any decent contract check out this Woj quote about Cousins. being a knucklehead or slacker does not pay, and after Miami if he can't play well/hard for Portland with Lillard's leadership then few or no teams will want him next year:
TheWarriorsTalk @TheWarriorsTalk

Woj says there’s no market for Boogie Cousins"

Im sure the knucklehead part is part of it, but the Torn Achilles then the quad injury sure don't help Cousins status.

Im not saying that bringing in whiteside is a bad idea, or that it wont work.

Let's be honest: the Blazers coddled Leonard. Now that he is out in the cold, cruel world and has to actually earn a paycheck, there is the very real possibility that he will get better as a player. That doesn't mean he would have become productive staying in Portland, or that the trade was a mistake.

This. I expect that Meyers is going to take a leap forward and really start to figure the league out. I don’t think it was ever going to happen in Portland, though. Sometimes, guys need a change of scenery to blossom.

Hey, I even gave him credit for some things....but that part is often conveniently ignored so no worries. If someone doesn't read or respond to the bigger picture of the post(s), I don't worry to much about the response. And I won't proactively cut anyone off or call their responses lame. Each has their opinion. Some are open to a discussion of those, some are not. No big deal.

One of the biggest boons to the Blazers last year was signing Kanter.

One of the biggest this year could be NOT signing Kanter.

Before the deadline, Neil replaced ET with Bazemore, giving us shooting and a Hood replacement. He needed to use any $$$ he had to Kanter to play C while Nurk was out. So, he offered his money to Kanter who, for whatever reason, declined (only to accept a similar offer from Boston, later). So, we still had our $$$, and we immediately pivoted back to Hood. Neil didn't think Hood would even accept this, but he did. So, we needed a C, and traded for Whiteside.

Because Kanter said no, we ended up with Whiteside/Hood/Bazemore instead of Leonard/Mo/Kanter/Bazemore. Thank you Kanter, for saving us again!!!

Welcome, Whiteside!

I predict at some point this will be used as evidence of Neil "lucking" into our improved roster.

What surprises me is that Neil prioritized Kanter over Hood even though he seemed to already have the Whiteside deal set up? Was this more a public relations move than a basketball move?

Remember, we could be hoping to trade the max expiring contract of Chandler Parsons right now...or just stretch buyout him.

We still have people on here talking about Meyers POTENTIAL ?? That's hilarious ! The guy is going into his 8th season !

there's a rumor that bigs take longer to develop. Besides, Meyers was labeled a project when he was drafted. 10th year Meyers will be awesome

I think it's a deal the helps both sides.

They really like Bam and Whiteside had become a bit of a malcontent.

Portland has loaded up on wings and needed a big that could hold serve while Nurk gets heatlhy.

and then Miami max's out another malcontent in Jimmy Butler. Wonder if that marriage will last as why he wanted to leave Philly for the Heat is a head scratcher.
