Listened to some national podcasts today that referenced toughness around the league and thought about this. Who are the guys that won't let the team get punked? If an opposing player starts shit with us, who will stand up and punk him back?

We kinda had this back in 08/09 where BRoy didn't let guys like KG/Ariza/etc get away with talking shit. But he was still a bit subdued and more brushed off the smack talk rather than get hyped and play harder. Or rather, who will instigate stuff with other teams and set the tone? We will need a little more of that for the playoff run now.

The obvious answer is probably Dame, but LA has grown up so much more in this aspect.

Lillard, Wesley and Lopez all seem to have that edge. LA is less aggressive in that area but still unwavering imo.

Freeland and rolo will give you that big man enforcer role. Lillard, Wes, and Aldridge all play better pissed off. Remember when westbrick told lillard not to be scared? And lillard punked his ass with the assistance of one Wesley Matthews.

Wesley seems like he'd be willing to throw down with just about anybody.

I don't know, I think Robin is more likely to go HAAM

Nobody's at Przybilla's level, but we have a hell of a lot more tough guys than we did back when Joel was our enforcer. Hell, say what you like about Steve Blake, he's a tough (relatively) little sonofabitch.

I think combined, our team is almost as tough as the Bruins' Little Ball of Hate...

Apparently Mo is ready to jump into a fight when needed.

I think a lot of it, is the guys are winning right now and all get along well. They are willing to throw down for a friend not just a coworker.

God what a brilliant trolling of Westbrook. I love this team!

A lot of our guys are down to mix it up, actually. I like the attitude.
Even Meyers is willing to go if necessary. He's not going to be the first one in, but I don't think it is fear of the fight, I think its fear of getting yelled at later for doing something stupid...

Totally, Meyers has that snarl to him.

I wonder if it's Lillard's influence on the team? He seems to me to be the de facto leader in the brass balls category.

Rolo. He is a ridiculously large human being. I'm not sure if he is even human, might be some neanderthal in him. He doesn't have to do much to be tough, just stand in his place and look down at people.

In terms of individual effort expended to be tough its probably Matthews. But its impossible for a shooting guard to have the effect of a center.

Ummm no Meyers is clueless. His "attempts" to be tough are actually sneaky ways to feel other mens bodies and invite them to his tanning salon.

I had this sudden vision of RoLo as Hodor from Game of Thrones.

The British Bulldog

He threw down Babbitt which subsequently led to the end of chalupas to then introducing McDonald's. He is so tough it spills over from the court to the corporate level. :D

A lot of casual NBA fans seem to have the impression that a team like ours without much playoff experience can get intimidated in the postseason. This was obviously true in those three runs with BRoy et al, but I really don't see that happening at all now with the way we're built

Hmm.... the initial Roy team that lost to the Rockets didn't have a 3rd fiddle. LaMarcus and Brandon were studs but nobody else could do crap. We needed Blake or Outlaw or Rudy to help but they couldn't.

The Suns series was a mess because we lost Roy a few days before it started. No chance to get the team ready for that type of change so quick. Steve Nash being able to guard Batum really really hurt though.

Against the Mavs we had no shooters to penalize double teams. Andre, Gerald and Camby cloggged the offense. It didn't matter in the regular season but when teams can scout and plan defenses then shooters are much more important in the postseason. That is why Andre Miller has never got out of the first round and that is why Stotts wants so many shooters on this roster. Still that was a heck of a series but I think if you put Mo Williams in place of Andre, and play Gerald more of the time with shooters that team would've faired a lot better.

I still smile when I remember that one guy who gave Meyers a shot on one end of the court, then at the very first opportunity Meyers wrapped him up and threw him down WWF style. He got a big-league elbow to the jaw for his trouble, but I loved the fire. The Meyers hatrs of course hated on him for the move, but I loved it.

To answer the question, I think Freeland is most like Przybilla in this regard. He won't get ejected if he doesn't have to, but he's not taking any shit.

This almost scares me it's so close to what I was thinking. Worded MUCH more effectively than I could have worded it. Repped.

LaMarcus really took the Houston series to heart; he's way way better out of doubles and when being guarded by pesky smaller players than he was when that greasy euro was guarding him.

Did everyone forget how Leonard threw down Phillys Daniel Orton? True he got knocked out by an elbow in the process, and it looked kinda awkward....but he did it!! :lift:

If Stotts was dirty, Leonard is the guy he'd send in to cap a player. he's the combination of useless, dumb, and aggressive.
