OT Why does the IRS need $80 billion? Just look at its cafeteria.

The problem is, that encourages them to lobby for more complicated tax law. Which is exactly what they do.

The incentives are wrong.
Its not just them. Everyone lobbies for tax law.

And unfortunately we have a complex economy.

Of course everyone argues for tax law. But this is a problem we can actually solve for the vast majority of people.

And we can solve it fairly simply using modern technology. Other countries (with just as complex economies) solved this problem decades ago.

Good luck. Everyone likes to say something is super easy to do, then when it happens they bitch incessantly.

The State Of Oregon just updated their technology like 5 years ago and everyone bitches about how horrible and annoying it is.

I would certainly advocate for more technically capable government reps. That's another conversation altogether.

The government is fully capable of making a website. They are fully capable of calculating taxes.

But yes, government can fuck stuff up. They should be better. I completely agree.

The point is, just like the president, even if he was Jesus, people would bitch about it.

The government could make a website where someone just needs to login to get a $1,000 a month UBI check and people would still bitch.

That's true.

It is universally true. So not particularly relevant to a discussion of the IRS.

It is exaggerated worse when it comes to governmental entities.

If only they did this! That would make other people bitch and it isn't as easy as a snap of the fingers like people like to project.

It's definitely a major undertaking. And people will always bitch, but that's not a reason not to do it.

What info do you think they have from quarterly filings? They get a breakdown on Form 941 of their entire companies payroll for that quarter, but nothing about each individual taxpayer. And those are filed wrong ALL THE TIME. Payroll companies have zero idea what or how payroll affects a tax return so they mess things up.

The annual return and 4th quarter payroll filings are due like the same time the W-2 is.
Anything they don't already have can be easily included in the report and transfered with the same push of a button they are already doing. The information is already on your paycheck check stub, so it's already been compiled.

A one time set up is all that's needed. And a couple more bits of data transfer...

This is only hard if you want it to be.

Ask the payroll companies how they feel about it and if it is hard or not.

I don't care about the bitching. I'm not sure how that became a relevant point in this conversation.
Run for congress and get your changes implemented. If you don't want to call up your rep and explain to them your solutions.

Thanks for your permission. I'll also continue to discuss these issues on web forums as I see fit.

Don't lose any sleep over it. I give my reps feedback and support candidates who have good ideas.
Don't just stop there. Spell out for them the solutions you have in your mind. Fix the situation our country is in one solution at a time.

I don't need to. Elizabeth Warren already has it on the books.

It likely won't pass, but not for the reasons you're bringing up.
Warren has it on the books to talk to the payroll companies?

It could pass if you ran for congress! You could fix all our problems.

Lol. You are the one who kept hammering away at this for some reason with ill-conceived excuses as to why it was impossible. I tried to let it drop, but you didn't want to.

I support the policy proposal linked above and stated why I support it. You like the inefficient system we have that targets the poor and has backed off on targeting the rich since Trump became president. You don't want to say why, and that's fine.

This childish act is great.
Perhaps you should go join a republican think tank so you can help them come up with excuses on why it's alright to target poor and minority populations...

I never said either of those things. But keep going. Lets hear the personal insults.

I never said I was against the proposal by Warren. I said it would be a step in a good way but that it would have its own issues. I don't remember saying they should abandon it because of those. No matter what happens if it passes, people, including probably yourself for it not being good enough, will still bitch about it.

Instead of solving all these problems with us, convince your reps. You say things are so easy. Go forth and conquer.
So you're saying we shouldn't discuss this policy proposal in a web forum?

May I ask why?
