Why is everyone getting pissed off about Native American team names now?

D.C. used to be the murder capital of the world. Then they changed the name from Bullets to Wizards and now Chicago is the murder capital of the world. It works!

And they are now going to change their name from the bulls to the hummingbirds.

And therefore, so should evvvvverybody else.

You're free to think what you wish.

Wow. Here's a hilarious thought exercise: what if their projections determined that they would make more money if they dropped the name? If the name change was motivated by pure, unfiltered capitalism, would you still choke on your outrage?

You badly misunderstand capitalism and it's responsibilities.

They were just submitting to the PC police! White guilt! Other bullshit arguments!

Because a name of a sports team that almost no one found offensive a few years ago, that stemmed from a self-referral is exactly the same as denying the right of minorities. Kthx.

So, why do you care so much about the name of a professional sports team?

I guess I'm just part of the PC police, here to oppress your sensibilities under the dastardly guise of tolerance.

Oh, and protest against the Redskins name goes back to 1968.

I'm tolerant of everyone. Please explain to me how my support of my football team's traditional name is "intolerant". I guess the only thing I'm intolerant of here is someone trying to limit the First Amendment.

As for when the first protest was, I'm sure there was some loser even before 1968 who felt slighted for some imagined indignity suffered at the hands of some oppressive NFL team.

I'm a soccer coach for Banks High School, and our school's mascot is the Braves. There's legislation that is either currently passed, or in the process of that, basically if we don't have appealed or shot down in the next year, we'll have to have a new name, and all "Braves" gear gotten rid of by 2016.

Land of the free, home of the something else.

Certain names I understand wanting to steer away from, or caricatures. But Braves, Warriors and Indians (esp with local ties) doesn't seem to be bad. In fact, I've always liked the nickname Braves (makes me think of Buffalo, and that makes me think of Buffalo Nickels).

I think the problem with our country is we have a vocal minority (on both sides) that speak louder than the rest of us who don't have much of an opinion about some stuff. Granted, some things NEED to be talked about so it's good they are vocal, but in the most part, I think they just are loud and obnoxious.

One side, however, is far more organized and systematic than the other. The vocal left is disorganized, small and really doesn't know how to sell their message. The vocal right, however, is far more organized, larger and has people who can sell and market their message. The two sides aren't equal, by any stretch either.

Whats good is, imho, the message the vocal right has been touting against for years (gays, equal rights, marriage, blacks, minorities, birth control, womens issues, environmental protection) are things that as a country (both left and right) we've kind of stopped, thought about it and said "dude...shut up. I don't care if two dudes marry each other"..

I don't think I'd really call Hootie and the Blowfish "R&B" though...

Rock? Yeah.... Alternative? Maybe... Country rock? I don't know.

Only MM would think that calling Darius Rucker a ****** is a joke.

Only hoojacks would think I called someone something specific when I didn't.

Let me guess, this character is based on you?
