I've got to be honest they're a few words that have for some reason ALWAYS stumped me. Then & Than is a perfect example. And without appearing to look like a complete moron Their & There is another one that I ALWAYS screw up on.
So with that said I'm not ashamed to say, now that Ron has helped me on Than & then, help me out now on their & there. I think THERE is as a location. EXAMPLE: I put my coat over THERE. And THEIR would be " Is their any cake left" Or do I have it backwards?
I think there will be a lot of pressure on the 49er's to draft him.
Exactly... I don't need to hear about it... and I would even remove the congratulations... I'd say, You're gay, play football and move on... being gay isn't something that deserves an award... it is what it is... but we don't need to hear about it nor should we hear about it... all that matters is if and how you can plan
Unbelieveable. You all say I don't read the thread or this is not what the topic is about....but you guys are way off base.
Have you ever been discriminated because of something? Unfortunately in the real world if you are not "normal" you have an unbelievable disadvantage over someone who is considered "normal"
What this young man is stating is that he is proud that he is gay, that everyone should know that he will not hide it and that he will break through the ceiling as a proud gay man. He will not hide the fact that he is gay because it may persuade a team for not taking him based on his sexualitiy. No rumors..no whispers...no...he is gay, now base the facts on whether he deserves to be on the team by his ability.
Why was Jackie Robinson a story that is hailed as a great accomplishment? This is the same thing, for since the beginning of time for one reason or another people have been discriminated against. Whether it was race, religion and sexual preference. He is standing up against prejudice. He is showing others that don't be afraid, don't hide your choice because others find it shamefull or a disgrace or god forbid different than the majority of society. If he fails it should be based on his ability to play football.
Why is this a story...wow.
Imagine if a gay person tried to run for presidency...OMFG would the world stop turning....why...because of how fucked up people think. That is why it would be a story. Not because he fucks a guy in the ass..but because the majority of the world would think he doesn't deserve to be president because of where he sticks his penis.
Al seriously, Jackie Robinson is the same thing? Really you mean there were really other black baseball players who were just pretending to be white? NO!!! This is not even close to being the same. They're MANY gay athletes, they're just not coming out like this guy is. There were NO other blacks in baseball Robinson was the first. My god man do you really think they're the same thing? HOLY SHIT!
And speaking of other gay athletes they're in the closet for several reasons, one of which COULD BE is because IT"S NO ONES FUCKING BUSINESS. And read post #27 & tell me that none of that is possible.
Jackie Robinson. To say this was a really dumb analogy would be a MAJOR understatement.
I have no doubt that there could be the possibility on what was said in post #27. But to pretend that the gay community is not frowned upon, thought differently and held back is sticking your head in the sand. What I believe he is trying to say to other athletes is to not be afraid, not be ashamed of who you are that there are others out there in the same environment, that are trying to achieve their goals.
If you don't think that a gay athlete deals with hatred by fellow athletes you are so mistaken. There are athletes who have come out and said that they wouldn't want to shower with a gay teammate. Why....why is that...is he afraid that gay athlete is going to drop the soap and expect something. No..its being fearful and ignorant.
Im not going to change anyone's opinion, but the fact is, ENOUGH people thought it was a story to report on it and to talk about it. If it was such a non story guess what it wouldn't make the news nationwide.
Hey 59, your right, the rest of the world is wrong. Non Story..time to move on.
Bottom line for paragraph 2 is that whether they're in the closet or out there are MANY gay athletes, In April of 1947 there was only ONE (1) black baseball player. Like I said, no comparison.
Hey 59, your right, the rest of the world is wrong. Non Story..time to move on.
you are looking at it the wrong way. Yes I realize there was one black player in the major leagues althought there were negro teams playing baseball and those players, like robinson faced hatred and fear by white americans because of them being different.
...sorry, jackwagon, but since when did you start speaking for the rest of the world?
...right, and that constitutes "the rest of the world"?...you really should choose your words more wisely.
...and NO ONE said it was "not a story"...for the umpteenth time, the question and the crux of this thread is why it should be a story.
Unbelieveable. You all say I don't read the thread or this is not what the topic is about....but you guys are way off base.

Technically, sexual orientation is not a protected class, so no legal definition of discrimination can exist based on personal lifestyle choices. Now you go find the "gay gene" and prove to me that scientifically that it isn't a choice, and I'll stand corrected. From protected classes to understanding the differences between rights and privileges, these are major stories the world of media need to address.
Look, I reject all the tolerance and diversity crap. We have always been a melting pot, but diversity sensitivity is the inhibitor to almagation. And tolerance fly's in the face of my basic rights. My religion, and the overwhelming consensus of the people on this planet believe that sodomy is a sin and anathema to society. How about the LGBT community be tolerant of the majority's beliefs? In all modern societies, a persons actions do not define that person. If I'm a sinner, I am not the walking incarnate of that sin. Even a murderer is not the embodiment of murder, he/she is a person that has committed a grave crime. We put the person on trial for the act, not the act itself. But look at the gay community, they have pulled the most amazing con on society....they have morphed both the act with the individual. To be gay is both action and individual. Therefore if you reject gayness, you are a bigot, they do not allow you to separate the act/lifestyle from the person.
This is the point of clarification everyone here is making, and where I think Al is not connecting. I hope this makes sense to folks.

...yup, and as I like to say, unfortunately, we have become "The United States of the Offended".
...also, the media decides what is newsworthy, not us and they decide what to spoon feed us. And the media's motivation is to make money and blatant sensationalism such as this is what spawns blind interest in these stories...but then again, so does The National Inquirer.
...as far as you referencing whether being gay is a choice vs something that gay people are somehow predisposed with at birth, I'd also like to see evidence of this "gay gene"...in fact, I'd like to take it a step further and ask another question; If the difference between homoseuality and heterosexuality is truly a genetic difference, how in the hell do we account for people who are "bisexual"?
where is the "gay" gene...is there a straight gene im not aware of? What your friend may feel is what came natural to him Rick, but throughout his life society told him he was like women and he was fearful of allowing himself to feel what came natural to him. Being drunk he lost his fear of having to do what society told him to do.
There are scientist who believe there IS something in genetics that one can be born gay...

so you take my words and spin it around...prove me wrong. prove the article I posted wrong.
never in the history of the world has genes mutated from the original state I take it...really...if that was the case shouldn't we all be amoebas?
