And I'm fine with going with the Christian school solution if the public schools are hell-bent on simply teaching evolution as the be all, end all.
Yet you dropped out of high school and don't have children to send to school..you have no voice in the matter ...facts are facts...your blind faith doesn't prove any of them wrong ..especially the morphing of all species on the planet for it's entire existance. The wooly mammoth became the elephant...deny it all you want. Be all end all sounds like Christian prophecy to me..not science...science doesn't preach eternal damnation nor heavenly rewards in an after life.

It wasn't until I went to college that I learned a lot of the darker side of history (tho I had several teachers in HS that hinted at it, but just didn't have the ability to teach it at my HS).

When you learn actual history, things make a lot more sense.

Something like that here too. Though I watched a lot of history channel with my dad too, and talked with him, so I knew what the history lessons in school were leaving out. I would point these things out in class during lessons and my teacher would give me a knowing smile and tell me I was a good student, but couldn't really iterate further.

In high school my history teacher was pretty defiant there. He was pretty outspoken about how crappy the textbooks were. We often role played the moments in history. Half the class would be one side of things and the other half the other side. We learned alot about how certain people were treated and how we should be treating each other.

Weird. I learned all the bad stuff that we did in my history classes in high school. That was back in the mid-70's. I had a Political Science teacher as well and he was very liberal.

There have been many miracles in my life, and countless others, that back up my faith. It's indisputable. Am I saying that the God of the Bible has to be taught in public schools. Not necessarily. But, if not, don't simply trot out Darwin's theory of evolution as fact and call it a day.
It's called a theory for a reason. They teach that in school.

But it's also supported by evidence, which is also taught in school.

The utter irony is that I WAS taught that stuff in HS……..a Catholic HS. They were generally fearless in giving us the facts, forcing us to question and letting us reason for ourselves. My HS teachers were the ones who pointed me to Howard Zinn. And then to Richard Wright and James Baldwin, both of whom made me very uncomfortable…..and ashamed. Mission accomplished. Anyone who is afraid of the truth is a snowflake and has no place at the table when decisions are being made.

There is scientific fact to support evolution. What scientific fact is there to support alternative theories?

The history channel wasn't a thing (I don't think?) when I was in HS, but I do remember watching a TON of stuff about history in college (outside of college I mean). History was always my favorite subject (tho I found the revolutionary war era incredibly boring as a student).

Always was fascinated by history, but also fascinated by the people who can ignore history and are totally oblivious to the version of propagandized history (or their cultish belief of their religious upbringing) they learned.

You can't go wrong quoting Hot Chocolate.

You know @ABM must have done some really fucked up shit in his life. He sounds like a recovered crack addict who self-righteously lectures everyone around him about the evils of drugs, coffee, smoking, etc. In every thread AMB posts in he has to preach to everyone about his Christian faith.

Seriously dude, where did you bury the hooker?

He'll never tell. But, he will head there tomorrow to make sure she is still there.

Well actually I don't think it makes much difference in our public school system at this point. You don't even have to be able to read or do math to graduate these days as long as you go to class.

I was reading a National Geographic magazine at the doctor's last winter and the article was about the ivory elephant tusk murders threatening elephants to the point of extinction and zoologists discovered new baby elephants are starting to be born without tusks......that's a survival instinct morphing that is completely tied to evolution just as climate changes have been. In my view....a true miracle.

Yet you dropped out of high school and don't have children to send to school..

I raised my two step-daughters from ages 10 and 12. They both went to Centralia, WA public schools until we moved to Georgia. They both graduated from Atlanta area public schools. They're both since married and I have 4 grandchildren. They all live back in Centralia and my grandchildren are going to public schools there.

The King James version was transcribed by (supposedly) Cloistered celibate monks in Europe. ..the same culture that refused to educate women or allow them to pursue higher education.

The message is simple, irrespective of any various translations.

you said you've been married 5 years and your wife's children are grown .that would make them 15 and 17 now and they don't live with you .hopefully they didn't have children yet at that age giving you these grandkids...doesn't add up but fact is, you're not an experienced parent or public school student from your own admissions. I'm guessing their biological parents actually raised them..as many photos as you post, I've not seen the "family vacation" ones. Nor the grandkids ones either come to think of it....for all the trips you take, I'd say those "children and grandchildren" are missing out big time. Math....important stuff. I have seen your photos of your dogs though.

Yes, I have been married 5 years. My wife is a widow, and had no children. My 2 step-daughters are from a previous marriage.

I once lived with a woman who had two kids for a little over a year....wouldn't claim to have raised her kids though. Raising children is a very selfless commitment ..you don't visit it, you do whatever it takes to care for them. I have spent most of my adult life parenting though...24/7 so when someone who hasn't made that commitment talks about parenting as much as you like to, I consider the source.

If I went to a Christian college, I wouldn't want anything taught the went against my Christian beliefs. I mean, why would I?
Notre Dame, Yale, Georgetown among others teach a variety of viewpoints. Not everyone at Brandeis is Jewish; Angela Davis went there and I considered it before deciding on Cal. And they teach biology. It's only the low academic evangelical schools like segregationist Liberty that forbid other views.

My commitment to my kids/grandbabies os for a lifetime.

Whatever you say.

No one teaches anything in science is be all end all. Only religion does that.

If my kids were attending a public school and I found out they were being taught that evolution is the only answer to our existance, I'd pull them out in a heartbeat.

Bet they'd love to see Mexico, Hawaii, New York City and all these places.....a commitment is a thing of time and resources. Hopefully you actually do spend time with them. Your photos have not a crayon or toy in sight though...the photos of your family have been of your sister's kid....haven't posted one of your own. Anyway...this is all not important...I've made my point as a teacher and a parent. This was about education and parental teacher responsibility...I don't get any sense that you're experienced at either much..

Gee, you don't miss much. Fact is, I don't share 95% of my life with anyone here. As it should be.

You share more about your life than most people posting here....I know more about your history than I know about most forum members because you talk about it. You talked about your sisters kid for over a year in here....not one mention of your own step kids.. or step grandkids...tells me their mother is doing the heavy lifting. Nothing wrong with that....just don't visit parenting when it suits your politics....actually parent if it's in your interest to do so.
