Why should we keep mo?

Mo is gonna be offered a stupid contract that we can't match. Dallas won't get melo. They need a point guard. He's apparently meeting with Dallas tomorrow. It's a done deal. He's not returning. I don't care what he said in his exit interview, if he really loved it here and cared about winning, he would take what we give him.of course though, as we have seen in free agency, these players don't care about winning. Channing frye to the magic? Good luck. So it's gonna have to be a Blake or Heinrich as backup. Mo can get boo'd every time he enters the moda center and that's that

Dallas actually doesn't need a point guard. They have Raymond Felton and Devin Harris.

From your tone it seems like your taking this really personal?

Would you stay at your job if another company was offering you a raise and possibility of promotion? Dallas has a less entrenched starter. It's debatable which team is best set to win next season. I don't blame Mo for exploring his options at all. If the Blazers really wanted Mo they could've given him the full MLE, instead they chose a player who couldn't get off the bench for a garbage team last season. I'm fine with Olshey's move's but from Mo's point of view I'm fine with him exploring his options. Hell for all we know the Blazers haven't even offered him a contract.

I don't really like Mo's game, but fuck it, who else is available that's worth half a damn?

Theres actually a ton of good backup PG's still available. There's a lot more of them than open backup PG jobs. Besides Mo there is:

Grevis Vasquez
Mario Chalmers
Isaih Thomas
Kirk Hinrich
Jameer Nelson
Beno Udrih
Steve Blake
Ramon Sessions
Luke Ridnour
Aaron Brooks
Jerryd Bayless
DJ Augustine
Kendall Marshall
Brian Roberts
Shelvin Mack

From that list, I think we can eliminate Vasquez and Thomas right off the bat. They are well outside our price range.

I think Chalmers and Sessions are probably too expensive as well, even if we do still have the MLE.

Realistically, from the rest of that list, I would talk to Blake, Ridnour, Nelson, Marshall, and maybe Hinrich.

The only way we're getting someone like Vasquez or Chalmers is probably through sign and trade.

A Summer League guard like Bobby Brown may make the regular season team. Presto. My favorite player next season.

My dream, though, is to bring over Sergio and Petteri.

A lot of people on this board talk a lot of shit about basketball players. But I seriously doubt there is a single poster here who would pass up millions of dollars for the privilege of working in Portland instead of some other major US city. "Yeah, you can keep your extra $8million dollars...I only care about winning." Uh-huh.

Only guys like LeBron can say something like that. The dude makes so much money, he can choose to pass up some cash to play where he wants.

Dafuq.... I don't want him back. He was a terrible PG.

Malone and Payton passed up millions to try and win in LA.

The problem isn't availability, because I think there's still a few good players available, but it's the price that is the problem. There are some stupid contracts being thrown around this summer.

Well price is always part of the availability equation for me. I probably should have clarified that however.

Well, you just never know. I never thought we'd be able to sign Mo last summer. That sort of fell into place at the last minute.

But we also had a little more cap maneuverability last year. With only the BAE to offer and too many teams with money to spend this year, it feels like we're going to be lucky to get table scraps.

Yeah, looking back, my expectations for this summer were completely unrealistic. I should have guessed with so many teams under the cap that it would be a sellers market. Some of the deals being thrown out are just plain stupid.

IMO, the main reason to re-sign Mo is that if he'll take a contract using the Non-Bird extension, it leaves the BAE to pick up another player at the SF spot. If he wants more than that, he's out of our price range anyway, unless the Blazers are able to restructure the Kaman deal as a S&T. If they're able to do that, I'd still rather see the MLE used to upgrade the backup SF spot than give it to Mo. I think Blake or another guard for the BAE would be preferable to burning MLE money on Mo.

That said, those of you who are saying Mo is a terrible point guard are delusional. He's got some weaknesses, but so does every backup PG in the league. Basically, this has been said on this board about every PG the Blazers have ever had with the exception of Lillard, and some of you even rag on him. I swear, if we got Chris Paul some of you would bitch about him too.
