Will CJ be traded by the deadline?

Given his contract and his defensive ability, Norm Powell is a more desirable guard than CJ. You can plug Norm into any team and he'll find a role, while with CJ you have to build a team around him to compensate for his lack of length. Plus Norm is 2 years younger. Plus Norm was more efficient across the board with his scoring this year while only putting up 2 fewer points, and wasn't recovering from a collapsed lung. Plus Norm was playing out of position at SF.

If we could trade CJ for Norm straight up today, I'd do it in a heartbeat. (The most baffling thing about the Norm salary dump was that it wasn't a CJ salary dump instead.)

And look what we got for Norm.

I'll be shocked if we're able to get anything of value for CJ. Happily shocked, but also very shocked.

I know you would have to trade Bledsoe by himself and the filler players from the Blazers could be mixed and matched, but just having some GM fun. Goodnight.

It's been reported that Hayes is most likely to get community service as his girlfriend didn't file any of the charges.

One big upside to acquiring Hayes is having Sofia Jamora at the games ....

Come to think of it, the way Hayes has been playing, she might be the only upside.

Is there any pressure for the Blazers to be making trades (any player/s) by the Feb 10 deadline?

They already achieved going under the tax.

Any reason they have to make trades now instead of waiting for the draft/summer?

Are opportunities better now due to other teams' desperation and willingness to overpay to make a play this season,
or will waiting for the summer give the blazers better opportunities.

Sincerely curious.

This evening freelance NBA writer Landon Buford, who has bylines with SI and Forbes among other places, suggested that the New Orleans Pelicans have offered a multi-player package and picks for Portland’s star guard.

Pelicans last offer to Blazers was: Satoransky, Hart, Hayes, Murphy, 2022 Lakers FRP, 2023 Pelicans FRP for C.J. McCollum, Per NBA Source.

Blazers want more assets but didn’t specify who.

WOW WHAT? YAS! Two first-round picks, Hart and Hayes and we turned that down? That's what I'm talking about!

After doing some research I have concluded you are correct.

Holy cow. So what does that leave us with...

Dame/DSJ
Satoransky/Keon
Hart/Craig
OG/Winslow
Sabonis/Hayes

Plus pick and MLE. That's a mighty different team, that's for sure.

Why? Nurk is better. I'd rather just get another pick thrown in.
Jonas is better at everything. Scores better (50/40/80) , rebounds better, defends better, shoots threes better.

The idea is that right now teams want CJ so they can compete with him this season, in fact since both the Pelicans and Knicks are rumored to be interested we can have a bidding war and there's no guarantee that we would get that in the off season. There's also no reason to think that his value would get any higher. He does seem to be cramping Ant's style and hurting his game so that might be good for just how much we have to pay Ant this off season. Realistically though I think there should be some urgency to show the fans that the team cares about more than saving money. Whether that's bringing in better talent or getting picks for the future or some combination of the two, at least one big move might help the fans move on from what looked like a trade that showed no concern for how competitive the team is or will be in the future.

To show Dame they hear him?

It’s pretty easy to see with a revamped roster there is at least an opportunity to give it another go at adding the right pieces. Joe COULD have convinced Dame of that?

Just me spitballing

There no pressure but with 4 teams supposed to be in mixed for CJ the Blazers be wise to wait to pull the trigger the last minute at deadline to pick best offer. But I still don't think it gets until the off season and the deals might not look so good then. I think they need do it now.

Yes please. :smiley-yippee:

Come to think of it, the way Hayes has been playing, she might be the only upside.

In his last 2 games, he is averaging, 21.5 points, 9 rebounds, 1.5 steals, 1.5 blks, shooting 89.5% from the field, 50% from '3', and 80% from the FT line.

Of course that is a very small, recent sample size of 'the way Hayes has been playing', but my goodness, that is insane efficiency.

Trading Norm was idiotic. It didn't solve our overcrowded backcourt. Norm was literally the only one of the 4 guards that didn't have to be traded.

what are we gonna do with bagley/turner/nurk?
Here's my answer. Instead of adding a center, we add a guy who has played his best ball at PF (with Detroit). Houston seems to be in multi-year tank mode; they would love those draft picks. Christian Wood and Hart to Portland. Satoransky and Hayes two of three of the draft picks and Murphy to Houston, CJ and minimums to New Orleans.
As part of the deal, Houston would also have to give us Gordon (efg .600 and playing with great energy) for Bledsoe.

If the Blazers can get more back for a player now than in the summer. In theory a team trying to win this year would give up value. Also if the Blazers would want to look at a player they receive for the rest of this season to better plan if they are a long term piece.

If there is no good offer for Blazer players now I agree the team can wait until the summer.

If there is no other trade now it probably makes the Clippers deal look even worse though.

powell had no business being on this team

it was mistake to trade for him in the first place

Jake Fischer’s article makes it sound like we’re just trying to shed salary for CJ…
If New York and atl are that interested, I really hope we’re getting Randle or Collins back..

Wow, CJ might actually be gone for good

On of my coy sauces, told me that of the discussions, one has much more traction than the others and that some of the smaller discussions are to facilitate additional participants in a multi-team deal. Then they proceed to chuckle, and not say which one had the most traction.

And then Woj posts that, so it would seem the 'traction' one is the Pelicans. Seems like other teams might get involved though or a 2nd move.
