The arena lease ends in a few years. Do taxpayers want to spend hundreds of millions for a new arena?

Think it might be best to wave goodbye and root for the Timbers.

I think the lease is up in what, 8-10 more years?

wait, why do tax payers need to pay for a new arena? Yeah, the RG is 20 years old (that seems hard to believe), but it's not like it's a dump.

Ahh its one of those days where everything seems like its going to pile on. We lost monroe if we lose LMA we will lose the Blazers ect ect ect.

The problem isn't just this day; its that we have them every few years. Roy knees, Oden injuries.

Damn the Rose Garden is 20 years old? I forgot it was that old

Well being from Seattle I would love to have Portland's team. I would feel bad if they left your city though. Paul Allen is the owner as well, so it's a possibility.

no.

This may be the most awesome troll thread ever. Draco, please join the clutchfans site and post a thread like this about the rockets. No, no, no, better yet: join a lakers forum and post the following....

Rumor: Buss to move Lakers to San Diego
it'd be an absolute hoot.

Any team in the western conference yet east of the Mississippi needs to move..the travel is ridiculous. Portland stays in Portland. Even send the Clippers to Seattle and the Pelicans to Vegas, Grizzlies to Vancouver BC...and get the Northwest back on the NBA map again

Nah. PDX is already the largest 1-sports town league (I'm talking about the Big 4 - NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL). Blazers are revered here and TV ratings and attendance is through the roof even during bad seasons cause there is no other game in town.

The Rose Garden may be 20 years old, but it is in a prime location and was renovated last year. It is very modern.

This is all the expected, inevitable fall-out of trading away Batum.

When the moving vans drive out of Moda Center in the middle of the night, we'll all remember that it began when the franchise forsook Batum.

It makes sense to let the Blazers go. Moda Center can be repurposed as Moda Dignity Village. The MC can be Slightly-Less-Dignity Village.

...I think you should move from Oregon to Texas with this type of blasphemy -- oh wait, you already did!

Blazers aren't leaving!

LaMarcus isn't leaving!

Oden isn't injury prone!

One thing to remember is part of the Timbers (charade) deal was the diversion of all spectator funds to back toward paying off the Civic stadium outstanding debt of about 36 million. Venues that used to receive this portion of the ticket sales saw it disappear even though their patrons still will pay it up to 2030, I think. This includes all events at Rose Garden and other entertainment venues in town. This may barely be chump change in the world of Paul Allen, but that little annoyance probably didn't thrill him. I'd guess that the naming rights being sold to Moda Health was a move to help balance out the Spectator fund loss. (I'm probably a bit off on the $# and year, but thats the gist of it)

Are you saying a memorial to veterans is less dignified than "red rubber ball"?

Just saying it's older. But frankly the idea that somehow a stadium is a memorial to veterans seems silly. Nothing against veterans. But it's a stadium, not a memorial.
