Plenty of blame to go around

The players offered concession after concession...But instead of looking forward to the start of a 72-game season, we're left with this: a group of NBA players, who felt not only defeated but disrespected in this two-year process

I would be shocked if the owners blink here, perhaps calling up the players' new lawyer, David Boies, to sweeten the proposal pot and put an end to this madness. The owners will keep the gas on no matter how much damage they do -- not just to the players and the game, but to the cities with publicly funded arenas that depend on the revenue and the workers who silently suffer in these already tough times. And whether it's months or perhaps even years down the road, the players who will have paid the price will need to lick their wounds and have an overhaul of their own.

Senseless NBA players, owners will look back on lockout with regret

You may feel more anger for the owners or for the players, but if you are a fan of basketball then the bottom line is that you are angry with everybody who had anything to do with the fact that there is $4 billion in revenue on the table and they can't even talk any longer about how to share it.

For the NBA owners and players to shut down their league during the worst economic times in more than 60 years has got to be the dumbest thing they could imagine doing.

How in the imagination of any reasonable person could a player in the highest-paid league in the history of mankind begin to compare the terms of this $4 billion negotiation against the people who are unable to feed their families, who have lost their homes to foreclosure and who believe they have been neglected by employers and government?

Here is the fundamental problem, and I believe 99 percent of you will agree with me: The owners and players share too much in common. People on each side of the table believe absolutely that they are in the right, that they won't be dictated to, and that they would rather see no season in 2011-12 than to surrender to their partners-turned-enemies.

It isn't an accident that the NBA season is as long as it is. Not only is it beneficial to the players to have time off, it helps fans too. There's a built-in rhythm that lets fans recharge over the summer, then get back in the swing of things. It's a habit with a nice break in it to build anticipation.

Both owners and players are really rolling the dice by breaking up this well-proven rhythm. This isn't 1999. The economy is much, much worse, and there are just a crap-ton more entertainment options out there, and almost all of them are less expensive than attending an NBA game. If they think recovery from a partial season or full season lockout will be as easy as it was last time, they've got another thing coming.

Anyway, I'll still be a fan I guess. But mostly a fair-weather one. If I read online that Oden takes off and the Blazers are firing on all cylinders, I could get back into it. But if it's looking like another first round exit, I probably won't.

If they cancel this season, they can ALL kiss this 35 year fan's ass. I quit on baseball in 95, and I'll feel the same if the NBA screws this up.

I am going to support the NBA going forward.

If you live in Ptd and enjoy going to sporting events, you really have limited options. I swear if there was a pro hockey team in town I would consider switching to season hockey tickets (and I'm not much of a hockey fan). I could try to protest the NBA and cancel my season tickets, but I got a feeling I'll barely be missed and some lucky sack just stepped into my seats.

I've been on here saying I hope for a restructure in system (no matter how long it takes) and not liking where the NBA is heading . . . but I got to admit I miss going to Blazer games. Makes for a great night out and I'll be going once they open up the doors.

I hope they cancel the season. The NBA is messed up in their priorities and I think the whole league needs a wakeup call.

There's no option for "casual interest, but mostly apathy"

I don't see myself boycotting the league, but my overall interest is pretty much at an all-time low and I don't see myself buying tickets or wasting any of my money on the Blazers for a long, long time ... if ever.

same for me. but it wasn't baseball that lost me as a fan, it was the NHL.

My interest has waxed and waned over the decades. Bob Whitsitt had me really interested because of his constant changes. The only time I boycotted was the Finals after Stern had the referees eliminate Sacramento against the Lakers. I'm not a boycott type, but I skip a lot of games when my priorities wander.

I voted that I'll remain a fan no matter what. But if the league loses its veterans and starts over with scab rookies from college, I'll be watching only intermittently.

I don't know. I'm a lifelong Blazers fan, so I'll at least pay attention. One thing I do know, it will be a long time before they get any more of my money, if ever, unless they were to severely cut player salaries and reduce ticket prices, which they won't, and create a system to ensure better parity among the teams. I don't even care about the Comcrap monopoly any more, and I won't waste my time watching crappy bootleg streams either.

I guess its time to buy some Timber tickets. I heard that they opened up some seats for next season. :D

I went to a Timbers game in July ... I generally hate soccer, but you know what? I actually had a good time, because it was such a good atmosphere at Jeld-Wen. God help me, but I think I might go again.

Way to early to tell. Who knows how bad they fuck things up if they actually decertify. Things could be fine, or it could be a disaster.

I'm a die hard hoops fan but have been frustrated with the NBA for a long while. Hoops is such a great game, the top professional league should have a better version of it. There are various aspects that could be improved, but that general public is more suspect of NBA results then any other league outside of WWF is pathetic.

if they faceplant and lose this season, maybe/hopefully they have to grovel their way back into the peoples hearts? Hopefully in the end we get closer to making pro hoops a real sport where it's unquestioned that its the contestants who determine the results. The league has had a David Stern's latest boy band feel for a while that I fucking hate

Chris paul to New York feels like a done deal, and I'll be shocked if Dwight doesn't end up in LA.

I'm not so sure on Paul, NY won't have any cap room, and the entire league owns the Hornets, I don't think 29 owners would approve another big 3.
