With the 7th pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, The Portland Trailblazers select. . .

Very few young players come in with an 'FU' attitude. The ones that are more confident, seem to be the somewhat older players like Dame who played 4 years before coming to the NBA. That is not the case for most top lottery picks anymore. But even Dame deferred to LaMarcus in the beginning.

That is how I feel about the freshmen in the drafts as well. They are going to defer to older players when they enter college. They are going to try to fit in with their teammates. This is why I dismiss any critiques about a freshman not being aggressive enough or he disappeared at times during the game. Just focus on their potential, not their stats.

I can see Baylor Schleierman going higher than he's being mocked just because he's a complete player. He's a very good three point shooter AND rebounder AND a solid defender AND he can pass AND he's legitimately large for a wing. He doesn't have Knecht's hops, but he's taller and is a MUCH better rebounder. Knecht will struggle as an NBA SF, but Schleierman could easily play that role. I'm glad the Blazers have worked him out as well as da Silva so that they can compare them, because I don't know why da Silva is being mocked a good ten to fifteen picks higher.

I also see Enrique Freeman as a guy who can contribute from day one and I would use our #34 on him. Like Schleierman he doesn't have a real Achilles heel (and is an elite rebounder, a serious area of need for us).
This year's 2nd round could see quite a few rotation players that make it in the NBA. There's about 10 players I really like there. Unless we move some contracts, I'm not sure we actually take a 2RP, which sucks. Scheierman and Mogbo would be a nice 2nd round haul.

That's a great comparison, he is like Pat but with much less athleticism.

Fine if we want a guy that can develop into a bench player a few years from now. Not really an ideal pick at #7 though.
This year that's probably the most likely outcome of anybody taken #7.

I think Knecht is a good fit for Charlotte at #6. Maybe the Hornets go with Clingan in which Knecht would be an option for us.
But if our board's mock draft is any indication of how things will turn out, the Blazers should have Cody, Holland, Salaun, and Clingan to choose from. Tuesday's mock in this forum will be interesting.

The news of blazers. . I mean trail blazer's interest in moving up is likely because schmitz loves a player he believes will not be available at 7. I have a feeling we'll move into 3 in a deal with houston

Houston is the most obvious move up target @ 3 for a 2nd Top 10 pick. It will cost one of Ant or Grant, IMHO. Make it BOTH and FVV is part of the deal (probably with Jabari Smith Jr).

The other target? Charlotte.
With the Spurs lurking at 8 — theoretically ready to scoop up Salaun or Williams …
… get #6 and take both.

I think Atlanta or Houston might be a good fit. Who can they realistically get with their picks that would be better than Ayton, Simons, or Grant? I don't see a lot of options for them. I'd be thrilled to get Sarr for Grant and change. Though imo, I think Ant makes more sense for Houston unless they are out on Bari.

This guy will prolly not be around at 34 but i am intrigued by him and I might ( if I was the Blazers ) even trade back 5 to 7 spots from 14 to get him - heck might even take him at 14 and that is ..... Shannon Jr

I think he might end up being one of the Top 3 to 5 players from this draft and I know he is a guard but he has height ( 6 '7 ) and might end up being a Jimmy Butler- lite type player. I will admit he is a gamble and not talking about that BS charge he beat but if your talking about biggest upsides then I do believe he is in the Top 5 there for sure but could be a HUGE bust too but i would not be against this gamble.

What do ya mean louder -- have you heard a rumor or something outside of just that the Rockets are open to a trade at 3 ??

Should we change the thread title from 7th to 3rd? The POR trade with HOU for 3rd is getting louder.

the whispers are growing. Cody Williams is pretty much a lock to be a Blazer this summer. Now, is this just folks engaging in a pre-emptive pick wars? There's only one way to find out... next Wednesday is a monster day for Portland. 4 new rookies!! (maybe)
