WOJ: Dame wants the super max extension

I think Dame has trade value today. I think teams constantly make decisions based on what a player can do for them right now and let the future of their contract play out later. If we put Dame on the market he would get big big offers.

Because of Lillard's attitude and desire, I bet the Blazers would get better offers for Lillard than the Nets got for Durant.

I don't know if Dame is worth more than KD is right now but it's close because Dame isn't as old and both have huge contracts.

Imagine trading Dame today lmaaaaaaao.

It's not about trade value.

Just imagine trading Dame today lmaaaaaaaaaaaaao. It may be the dumbest idea ever.

Trade deadline? Sure. Today? Lmaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaao.

Have you noticed that you’re consistent in only having one O when you type lmaaaaaaaaaaaao?

so it’s:

Harden didn't take a paycut. No one else in the league would've given him more money. After the way he vanished last season and at his age, he's lucky to get a contract at all. This idea that Harden is making a sacrifice is ridiculous. If Harden played like a MAX player in the playoffs, he'd be signing a MAX deal today.

I love Lillard. Best Blazer ever in my opinion.
However this is conflicting with his vociferous desire to win here. Wish he would have taken less. Never gonna put a winning team around a guy taking a third of the cap… This move actually makes me question Lillards desire to win being more importantthan his monetary concerns, of which he should have zero concerns, unless his ego is fragile enough that it gets boosted by having one of the larger annual payoffs that is out there.
This is somewhat of a punch in the nuts….

really??

I'm looking at the last 20 NBA champions and 19 had somebody being paid a third of the cap. The only one who didn't was the Spurs when Kawhi Leonard exploded while still on a rookie deal

in other words, for being a true contender, paying a guy a third of the cap is the rule, not the exception

How many had someone making a third of the cap that wasn't a top 5 player?

Dame is right outside that playing injured the past 4 years. I could see him being the best guard in the league next year. Curry at some point takes a step back. Dame is very, very close to the top 5 I have him in the top 10 for sure and pretty close to the top 7. The only guys I have 100% above Dame are KD, Giannis, Jokic, Doncic, Embiid, and Kawhi (in all cases assuming healthy). I think I'd rather have Dame over LeBron, Tatum, Morant, Curry (closest of these guys and better than Dame last year I just feel he's due for an injury year and/or a step back), and Butler next year. I don't think anyone else is really in the running with Dame other than those guys.

Crazy to think we haven't seen a healthy Dame in 4 years. What's that look like considering his injury was almost at its worst when he put up the greatest game in NBA playoff history according to advanced metrics. Only the biggest no-show in NBA history by the supporting cast could choke away that game, thanks again for that CJ!

Looking at the last 20 champions like Wiz said should be discouraging for any Blazer fan, not encouraging. Literally only one team in that time span won a title without at least 1 player better than Damian.

I apologize. I should have said the Blazers will never. I erroneously assumed that was implied. The Spurs/Wallace Pistons are examples i believe of how we could win. Paying Dame a third of the cap will not bring a chip to Portland. I am in vegas and in a gambling mood. I would put money on it.

I think this is where the big gap between factions in fandom comes from. You just described Lillard as 7th best (at very best) as a brag about how we actually can win a title with him. When other people read that same statement they see that he is obviously a tier below the caliber of players that win championships and get discouraged.

7th best players in the league don't win titles in the NBA.

Not when getting paid like a top three anyhow. Not in Portland. We are not getting ex allstar bet mins to sign here who can still provide a significant impact.
People complaining about the lack of assets and how marginal the team still looks, may have validity, but then some still feel we can put a winning team around Dame with this salary?
How, when we have to overpay for FA’s as it is????
I am literally scratching my head over here.

So you would have been a proponent of trading him for picks and breaking this up? I wish people with mindsets similar to yours would consider the alternative. Are you mentally ready to bottom out and test our lottery luck?

Happy for Dame & his Family. Happy for me because i Love Dame, and he is my favorite Blazer ever. Happy for the organization because i still believe he's an elite player, who is finally healthy, and will have a chip on his shoulder (more than usual) due to the fact there are still doubters out there. Keep doubting MFers. Throws fuel on the fire. Go Blazers!!

fuck that nonsense

if I were to prove Dame is a top-5 player, somebody would make the new goalposts a top-3 player or somebody over 6'5 or 'not-a-PG'

if the Blazers can't build a contender around Dame, they sure as shit aren't going to build a contender around what they traded Dame for....

I think the sentiment is we would love to see Dame take less. If he wants to win, take less to allow for more flexibility to put better players around him.

2004 Pistons? Boston with Garnett?

how many championships has Portland won over the last 40 years when they weren't paying somebody a 3rd of the cap?
