Would you accept Batum for Monroe?

Yes, I would accept Batum for Monroe, because I'd be the Pistons and that would be a good deal. The Blazers shouldn't accept Monroe for Batum, though.

Agreed. I'm a Batum fan and would be all for keeping him.

Or move Aldridge to SF and have a front court of Aldridge, Monroe and Lopez!:devilwink:

Monroe will want and get a max contract. I'd rather keep batums bloated contract because of how bad Monroe is on D and if we wanted Monroe why didn't we just pay the better version of him that's Al Jefferson.
Monroes only cheap for one year then he is going to get a max offer.

Every player would like a MAX contract but that doesn't mean they will get one.

Don't see him getting MAX. He is going to get a MIL or so over Batum though.

I think what we say this summer will give a rude awaking to a lot of players. There is no way Monroe gets "max"

Batum is a below average defender that makes a highlight real block each game, but the quality shots he gives up more than negate his highlights. LaMarcus is barely an above average defender who doesn't make big defensive errors. If LaMarcus had a highlight every few games fans would think he was great.

Wesley was the only all around good defender on this team last year which is why as a team we were so terrible defensively.

Well, for one thing, Jefferson's 6 years older than Monroe, which means Monroe probably has more room to grow. Also, Monroe is an elite passer from the post.

As for Monroe being super expensive next year, let's say that we trade for him and that he is good enough to earn a contract starting at $14M. Well, let's examine that.

If he does that alongside Aldridge, then either:
  • A) Aldridge's numbers took a hit, and we would then be OK dealing him because Monroe has demonstrated himself to be a capable replacement, or
  • B) Aldridge remained his all-star self, and he's now stoked to be playing alongside another top-notch big man, and would probably want to stay (think about it--Lillard + all-star Aldridge + max-contract-worthy Monroe is a great big three)

Or, let's say we did the POR/HOU/DET 3-way suggested above. Now we're looking at Parsons/Monroe/Asik instead of Aldridge/Batum. Summer 2014 cap figures:
  • Asik - 8.4M; Monroe - 14M; Parsons - 964K -- Total 23.4M
  • Aldridge - 15.76M; Batum - 11.76M -- Total 27.5M

So, in this scenario, Monroe could basically get a max contract, and we still end up paying less than Aldridge/Batum, with a better combination of front-line players. So tell me again, where's the downside of Monroe earning a max contract if we traded Batum for him?

Good point! Reppd when I get to my computer

How is this even a conversation right now??

Batum for Monroe is a NO brainer.

Yeah, we sucked with Hickson at center - but Hickson wasn't elite offensively (passing, post, offensive repertoire) and he damn sure wasn't 6'11.

As far as SF goes, Crabbe/Claver/Wright would fill that, possibly Wes (who guards Durant on occasion) as well.

It also allows us to take more offers for LMA -because we wouldn't have to be worried about not having a post presence.

Sure lets move the guy who wants only to play PF over to a spot where (because he has no handles or perimeter D) he will be the most horrible? That's a terrible idea and you know it mags.

I guess you missed the devil wink

Why trade Batum?

He was pretty good for a whole 4 weeks last season!!!

It seems the rumors are set higher (going for rondo); but if that doesn't work out; we have a shot at getting him.

It seems Detroit wants wings. I think we have plenty of wings to really make a run. I still think Matthews could be traded, but who knows if they would rather have some youth movement to grow with Drummond.

I think it would take a combination of a young (possibly Barton and crabbe) and a vet (possibly Matthews or Batum). I think they have no interest for a player like Aldridge because its a bit redundant.

Personally I think he would be a great addition, if we don't have to use Aldridge, it would really put us in a good position going into next season.

How would you feel if they wanted Matthews or Batum and Leonard for Monroe and Villanueva (for making the salaries work)?

I think Detroit would bite because Josh Smith is best at PF. There aren't enough minutes to distribute between Drummond, Monroe and Smith. I think they would agree to deal us Monroe and Villanueva for Batum.

Would any of you guys be for that?

Yeah, but there's no f'ing way Detroit does that.

Do you remember way back when people were arguing Batum v Rondo? Now Mags is suggesting Batum for Monroe, when Detroit wants Rondo.

Batum wasn't equal to Rondo then, and he's not now. Both Rondo and Monroe are worth significantly more than Batum.

I understand your point and I agree for the most part. But Detroit is in an unusual circumstance right now. They lack wings and have a ton of talent at bigs. Sometimes just being in the right place in the right time can give you a great return.

It's like a perfect storm because Monroe will want big money, and they already blew their money on smith. They have a discounted Drummond; which makes it too much of an overlap.

Everyone was saying Pekovic would get max and that didn't/won't happen.

He'll sign the QO this year (Minny froze everyone out by signaling they'd match) and then get something close to the max, if not the max itself.

Batum and LA have all the qualities that should make them top-flight defenders (quick feet, long arms, mobile, nimble), but Stotts and our coaching staff doesn't seem to give a shit about defense.

I am looking forward to watching Monroe tomorrow night.

I could see Detroit wanting a wing like Batum, but I also think they're going to want a point guard like Rondo. That dude would fit in there like a glove. We don't have a guard to offer them outside of CJ.
