They are NOT competing for anything now as constructed... Doncic and Parsons keep Blazers at least as good as they are now, but with a high upside... Doncic has a very low bust potential... he has been playing against grown men in 2nd best league in the world for years nowI don’t care if he’s my next door neighbor, until he proves he can do it in the NBA it doesn’t really matter to me what he does.
He very well might be a really good NBA player someday.
To me Dame is one of the franchises best players ever in his prime and if you are going to trade CJ for this package you’re basically saying we’re building around Collins and Doncic, which is fine but you might as well trade Dame, because they won’t be competing for anything for at least another 3-5 years and no way Dame sits around and waits that out.
Remind me of when Darko won MVP of the Euroleague? Not saying Luka ends up this way but the scouts say he’s great thing doesn’t mean a lot...

You are just failing to understand that you will have to gamble a little bit on the unproven to change things with this team... no one is giving up even an equal talent to CJ with more size to play SF of PF... 6’3” undersized SG are the easiest type of player to find... the difference between CJ and many gaurds that come out of draft is a coach giving them a green light to shoot... you are basically saying keep things status quo since you are not willing to take any riskI don’t care if he’s my next door neighbor, until he proves he can do it in the NBA it doesn’t really matter to me what he does.

Willing to take risks, but not this one. It's easy to say take risks, but when / if it doesn't work we'd all be here to tell NO how stupid it was to take to the risk. You are just failing to understand that you will have to gamble a little bit on the unproven to change things with this team... no one is giving up even an equal talent to CJ with more size to play SF of PF... 6’3” undersized SG are the easiest type of player to find... the difference between CJ and many gaurds that come out of draft is a coach giving them a green light to shoot... you are basically saying keep things status quo since you are not willing to take any risk
No, I would respect Neil for going for it... the reason most people hate on Neil is for playing it safe for a team just good enough to make playoffs so they can sell ticketsWilling to take risks, but not this one. Right so if they did, this Doncic turns out to be not that good, Parsons stays down on the end of the bench next to Meyers, and the Blazers win 30 games, people would be so thrilled he took the risk on the Blazers way to winning 35 games. No, I would respect Neil for going for it... the reason most people hate on Neil is for playing it safe for a team just good enough to make playoffs so they can sell tickets
So if they stand pat next year with Dame and CJ and win 42 games and lose in 1st rd again will people will be thrilled? What’s your point, anything can happen either way... it’s a matter of trying something new vs trying to force the issue with something you know doesn’t workRight so if they did, this Doncic turns out to be not that good, Parsons stays down on the end of the bench next to Meyers, and the Blazers win 30 games, people would be so thrilled he took the risk on the Blazers way to winning 35 games.
Was he 19 at the time?Sergio Rodriguez won it a few years back remind me how great he was...
That would be so funny / sad if they traded CJ for him and he stayed in Europe another year (this isn't likely though). No matter how good the kid is....I don't see the Blazers banking on a rookie this season...I thought the kid said he wanted to stay in Europe another year?
Yeah that would be so funny if he stayed in Europe another year and Blazers got another lottery pick to go with Doncic and Collins, building a true contender 3 years out when Warriors start to fade... so funnyThat would be so funny / sad if they traded CJ for him and he stayed in Europe another year (this isn't likely though).

I will bet you any money you like that he is playing in the NBA this coming season.I thought the kid said he wanted to stay in Europe another year?

That would be a zero dollar bet....good to know though. You're probably right, but I'm asking what YOU would do. (Personally, I would be amazed if Doncic was available at #4.)

Ah so we're building now around a guy who's played 0 in the NBA, a guy who's rookie season showed "a bit" of promise, but had a PER of 7.5 and shot less then 40% from the field, and another lottery pick. Sounds like we want to be more like Sacremento than Golden State...Yeah that would be so funny if he stayed in Europe another year and Blazers got another lottery pick to go with Doncic and Collins, building a true contender 3 years out when Warriors start to fade... so funny
I respect your opinion. We could be wrong about Luka.
I would also say that there's a chance with as tough as the west is becoming, that we are fighting for the last spot in the playoffs or worse with the same team next year.
So where are we really? Disagree?
I guess it just depends on how good you think Doncic will be, I've watched the highlight video's and youtube, and read probably the same or similar things to what you've seen or watched. I'm not really convinced. You might be, and that's fine. The question was if I'd do the deal and I said no, mainly because I'm not convinced. Saying he's great in Euroleague to me, doesn't necessarily mean he will be great in the NBA, it might be the 2nd best league in the world, but the gap is still pretty big...
We would still have Dame and Nurk and Harkless... you make it seem as trading CJ for a young player is going to extremesAh so we're building now around a guy who's played 0 in the NBA, a guy who's rookie season showed "a bit" of promise, but had a PER of 7.5 and shot less then 40% from the field, and another lottery pick. Sadly nobody's going to make that offer. In answer to the OP...no, I won't trade CJ for the #4 pick....but if I were GM I'd trade him for the Greek Freak or Kawhi Leonard in a heartbeat.
He could go to the Nuggets and play with his buddy Will. That would be a much better team than what we have, minus CJ, plus Doncic.
Spurs are also a good choice, mind the awkwardness with LMA. Tony Parker needs replacing.
He would be a better replacement for Bledsoe at Milwaukie.
There are quite a few teams that Dame can join and elevate them into serious contenders.
I haven't looked into Doncic, yet. However, I'm hearing the same arguments for Doncic that
I was hearing about Ricky Rubio. I wouldn't trade CJ for a young Rubio. Not even for a matured
Rubio.
