I believe he is a PF, but do the Blazers?

If he is a center then they need to trade Nurk at the deadline. If he is a PF then they need to trade Davis at the deadline.

He's a big. In the modern day league calling someone a PF or C is irrelevant. Collins has the skills to be able to play with any other big.

why wouldn't you keep Davis, who seems to want to be around here, and move Vonleh, who as an RFA can shop around for the best deal and get on the Crabbe plan?

If you're gonna bring up Vonleh's RFA status you have to also bring up Ed's UFA status. Both are free to shop around - that's not something unique to Noah.

youre on a thin ice right now, Id be careful I were you

No, I don't, if Dame's pushing on his behalf because he wants to stay. It is unique to the guy who is asking (through proxy) to stay here.

why...we have Vonleh....Harkless...Layman..Leonard to trade and if they pull that off you keep the best 3 bigs we have.
We won't get shit for any of those guys. I want to improve the roster

If he is a PF then they need to trade one of their other PF's. (or at least not try to trade for yet another one)

Isn't Davis our back up center? Seems to be his best position. I would keep Ed right there. Good energy off the bench....whether the starting center is Collins or Nurk in the future.

He is a 4/5 big. No doubt about that. I like him better at the four right now because he needs to fill out. In a few years he could easily be only a five. Look at Tyson Chandler. When he came into the league I think they played him as a four next to Eddy Curry. Then later when he filled out he was only a five. I think Collins will follow a similar path.

Chandler was 224 as a rookie, Collins 230.

NBA.com interview:
I think I definitely fit in at the power forward position better. I feel a little out of position when I play the center spot, but sometimes that is what is needed so I’ve got no choice. I definitely miss playing next to a big center like Eddy.

Short term, or long term?

In the past, you've advocated intentionally losing to get a higher draft pick with the goal/hope/dream of getting a higher draft pick that will eventually be a difference maker.

Of course that requires getting worse with the hope of eventually getting better.

So, do you want to improve THIS roster, and maybe have a shot at HCA in the playoffs, or is your goal to get worse short term to potentially improve some future roster?

Long term. We aren't winning shit short term

Of course, he could also choose to sign for the vet min with a team like GSW if he wants to go ring chasing. That's the unrestricted part. We can't force him to play here. He can take less money to go elsewhere. On the other hand, if he really likes it here as much as he claims, he could take less to stay. It's his choice.

Collins actually reminds me to LMA and Durant. Coming out of Texas where the
coach didn't use a weight program, they played small when they came into the
league. Durant's rookie year was spent playing SG. Durant isn't an SG.

So, you don't want the roster to improve - at least not between now and the trade deadline. You'd prefer it get worse, correct?

BNM
I'd prefer we have a plan to win. We need another star, and resigning Ed doesn't makes sense because Okshey has fucked the roster. So if Collins, who we have under contract for a while, and he shows glimpses of playing well, is a PF, start remiving salary at that position. Ed is our most valuable asset, so get something for him. Maybe we strike gold

I'm in the keep Nurk, Davis and Collins group. All other bigs can be traded.
I mostly agree - but Ed and Vonleh are equal in my book. One should be kept and the other traded. Keep the one that will be cheapest. All things equal, I'd probably keep Noah over Ed because he can actually hit a shot outside of 3 feet of the hoop...he just needs to learn how to make the ones INSIDE 3 feet!
