Saw a comment posted by Matts last night on the return of Gregorius. Let me add to the blasphemy, you've got a team that is winning but need pitching. The Yankee infield in my view is solid with enough pieces to give people "rest". I'd seriously consider trading Gregorious and Bird. Is anyone anxious to see Stanton & Tulo return to take jobs, no thank you. Judge is always welcome and his return will see him (Judge), Frazier, and Hicks starting, Gardner in reserve. Morales or Maybin will be gone. Severino & Jmo will be welcome additions but again Cashman needs to assess the surplus and trade for pitching. Long time Yankee fans will remember a time when the Yankees with obvious exception got them young and shipped them out in their late 20's or early 30's resulting in a constant winning formula. Many potential tough decisions coming up. I vote for fielding the best team possible.
 
dont think you will get fair value for a returning Didi...nor will anyone give up starting pitching for a Tulo or a Gio. You are definately not getting a starting pitcher for bird.
 
Getting fair value is implied for certain. The bus is getting crowded and some folks may have to get gone. I'm simply hoping for the best possible moves that will benefit the team.
 
^^^^^and do you know what is saddest of all about the Yankees’ situation is that the only way
to get any starting pitching is through trades. Cashman cannot honestly call up
a reliable starting pitcher from his farm system. There is not one to be put into an
emergency situation......and believe me the Yankee pitching is in an emergency state!

So, as long as this team wins, I do not think Cashman thinks the starting pitching is an
emergency. I’m just not sure what chattel he will offer for a ‘starting pitcher’.

they have had injuries at the minor league level, montgomery and this one kid who was mowing down 3 different stops, Mike King...plus Chance Adams was on the way until he got injured.

I will say this ...how many teams in the majors have all these home grown pitchers on their current staff? They dont grow on trees.

name a team that has tons of homegrown pitchers on their staff...you make it sound that the yankees are the only team that seeks out pitching.

Aaron Judge was in the Yankees’ lineup for that last Boston series, going 2-for-8 with no RBI. Four days later, he landed on the injured list with an oblique strain.

Judge has just begun swinging a bat, but is still about a month away from returning.

Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia came out of the second game of that series with knee discomfort, and he recently admitted that his future playing career is in doubt.

Nathan Eovaldi pitched effectively in the second game (six innings, no earned runs) and took a no-decision. Sidelined with elbow issues shortly thereafter, Eovaldi is due to begin throwing to live hitters this weekend.

J.A. Happ is scheduled to oppose Sale in the opener.

The Red Sox have Eduardo Rodriguez, Rick Porcello and David Price lineup after that, while the Yankees plan to bullpen one game this weekend and start Domingo German (either Friday or Saturday) before giving the ball to CC Sabathia on Sunday night.

Sabathia hasn't pitched since May 22 at Baltimore, due to right knee inflammation (he's since had injections of cortisone and lubricant).

Stats
Rafael Devers is fourth in the AL in batting, with a .325 average (the Yanks’ D.J. LeMahieu is seventh at .313).

Gary Sanchez’s 17 home runs – in just 37 games - is tied for the AL lead in that department (teammates Gleyber Torres and Luke Voit each have 14).

The Yankees’ team ERA of 3.72 is fourth in the AL, with Boston sitting eighth at 4.43.

No. They are the only team I root for. Over the last 17 years who have the Yankees developed to excel
as a starter in the Yankee system? Andy Pettitte, for sure, since 1994 was one of the greatest pitchers in
Yankee history. Home grown starters who followed were: Phil Hughes, Ramiro Mendoza, Randy Keisler,
Brad Halsey, Chien-Ming Wang, Jeff Karstens, Tyler Clippard, Joba Chamberlain, Ian Kennedy,
Ivan Nova, David Phelps. Not one has been a great contributor to the Yankees’ success.
And that makes the Yankees ability to win that much more remarkable!

With regards to the way Yankee management has cultivated their young pitchers, leaves much to be
desired.....at least to this Yankee fan.

again i would go back and say to you, how many teams draft, develop and keep their starters?

The Yankees have had numerous pitchers go down with major injuries. Could they do better drafting, sure, but you make it sound like they are the only team where I just showed you the top three teams have maybe 1 starter that they developed.

Sevy was becoming that guy.
Home grown pitching is very rare. I pretty sure if you go back to each world series winner you are not going to find those teams with home grown pitching.
 
Flash back to 2004 Yankee spring training. Cashman stood proudly with Phil Hughes, Joba
Chamberlain & Ian Kennedy.....the trio of home grown starters....to pitch for years to come.
At that time Cashman said, “.....the Yankees had finally gotten it right....”. He claimed that to be
successful ‘you have to develop your own starting pitching because it is too expensive to get
pitching through the free agent market’. He also claimed that the Yankee goal was to be starting
pitching independent.

Well there is a goal that has been lost through the last 17 to 20 years!

other teams get their starters. Mr.Cashman has a long history of saying one thing and doing another.
Yes, Seve could be that star starter. I just feel Cashman’s home grown pitching productivity leaves
the team too dependent on free agents...that’s a far cry from his 2004 comments!

you are more than entitled to your opinion, i think you are being extremely harsh.
You dont care what other teams do but you make it sound like the Yankees are the only team in baseball that hasnt produced quality starters. Drafting baseball players is a total crap shoot to begin with. The fact that they had pitchers suffer career altering or ending injuries. Its not like the Yanks have had top end draft picks to begin with either.

Cole was a Yankee draft pick.

Joba should have been a top end pitcher that got his head screwed around by the stupid joba rules and midges... no one questioned Phil Hughes pick and Ian Kennedy is still in the majors...
