Your worst scouting fail

Gerald Green. When the Blazers traded down and took Martell Webster, I thought Green had more upside.

Same here. Once we traded down, I really wanted Green to be our pick instead of Webster. I was flabbergasted he fell to that annoying git Ainge at 18 and pissed we didn't trade up from 22nd (Jarrett Jack) to 17 to get Green.

I've always been much better at projecting big men than guards, but after that draft, I kind of gave up on trying to project how guards would transition to the NBA.

I was even cautious not to get too high on Lillard, until the first time I saw him play live in a preseason game before his rookie year. I knew then and there he was truly special. It was pretty obvious.

Nah.....you don't know how high I was on him. Completely mis-evaluated.

Again, same here. I thought, at the very least, he'd be an all star, with the potential to be a super star.

Oh gawd. I remember that was a common sentiment.

I do remember I publicized Lillard on this board pretty early when that draft season was young and Lillard was getting mocked around 25 in the draft. I posted a bunch of highlight vids. The rest is history.

I am pretty sure for the most part, (at least for me) the Austin Rivers love was for #11. Not instead of Dame.

I bought a Sebastian Telfair jersey that I am only just now giving to Goodwill.

Thought Brandon Roy would be average

This is mine, too. I was pretty unhappy with the pick, I thought he was low-upside due to lack of explosive athleticism and being a four-year college player, he didn't strike me as dominant enough.

Of course, I read an interview with him years later where it turned out that he was a great dunker coming out of high school, but avoided going for dunks in college because he wanted to refine his skills rather than coasting on athleticism.

Telfair if we're sticking to Blazers. I loved me some Marbury and bought the hype.

Blake Griffin probably, if expanding it to other teams. I thought he was way overrated and wouldn't be able to overpower pros. At least I'm somewhat saved by his career trajectory pointing more toward average now, mega-contract notwithstanding.

You can help alcoholism tho.

Possibly, possibly not. It's also pretty likely that the alcoholism stemmed from the feeling that his career was spiraling away due to the injuries. All the reports at the time suggested that he was pretty heavily depressed over not being able to play.

No, that MF was getting drunk and straddling white girls half his size.

This may not be my worst fail, but it's the one I vividly remember. I was extremely happy when we selected Mark Bryant. He ended up being a serviceable 7th/8th man on the team. But I expected so much more from him coming out of Seton Hall.

It's all good. I got to see him play against Lakers and win. And I got his autograph after the game. It was a win-win that night for me.

I'm sure you're an expert on that part of his life as well.

I'll stick with what I know.

Read the grantland story. He tells us first hand he drank a lot because he was hanging out with his air force cousin. Not sure why you're giving him a pass.

I remember getting all jazzed when we took Q. woods, man that was a whiff. I thought Rudy was going to be a star..... again not so much

I thought Zarko Cabarkapa was going to be a really good player. I badly wanted him to fall to the Blazers in the draft and was annoyed when my friend gloated about his team, the Suns, drafting him.

The worst are the guys who never make strong take on any prospect. But then love to rip others opinions to shreds. Or the one who just likes every prospect in the draft, just to cover all the bases.

Because I don't judge people when it comes to addiction, especially when I've never met them in my life. That piece is a great example of why I don't. He lost his best friend and then became an alcoholic after his first injury. Had a bad influence around him. Then got rid of the guy and quit drinking, got in shape, and played well. Then got injured again.

Or just call him a motherfucker because he didn't work out for the basketball team you root for.

Whatever works.

I thought that Lamarcus Aldridge could possibly go down as the greatest Blazer of all time................

I'll hit the "post reply" button when I'm done puking.

Not even sure how to spell it but I thought Abdelnaby was going to be really good. I got Roy right but also wanted Oden.

but I also don't really understand your need to constantly check people on this forum

Take your own advice.

You replied to me. Do us both a favor and put me on ignore.

I replied to you about someone who's not you and you decided to get butthurt and try to administer a teaching moment. Save that shit.

Putting you on ignore would save me would save me from the idiocy and defensiveness of your posts though... :gasoline:
