PER is obviously a very limited measure, but it does show that at least from the box score perspective Skal isn't a bad replacement at all for Collins. In the 22 minutes he's played, he's been pretty damned good, and proven far more than Mario has in his 60 minutes.

Unlike Mario, we actually own Skal's Bird Rights. So we kind of have an incentive to see what we can do to develop him.

Terry better not.

Right now he doesn't have a choice. Look I would prefer Skal and Mario playing more minutes at PF then Tolliver. I always thought that Tolliver should only be used when injuries occur. Unfortunately they have.

My guess is Tolliver will play more and will actually play better because of it. Not as good as we would like but better none the less.

Luis Scola is currently playing for the Shanghai Sharks, 3 years out of the NBA and 39. I have no idea how he looks now, but he can't be as bad as Tolliver.
He looked pretty good in the FIBA championships...

But he does have a choice. I know Tolliver will play though.

Yeah I guess you are right. Mario at PF for 28 minutes, Skal adding 10 at PF and 18 at back up center.
That limits Tolliver to about 12 minutes.

They can also go small and move Hood to the four, especially against San Antonio.

He is -25 in his three games in a total of 27 minutes. Playing Tolliver 12 minutes puts us at ~ -10 to just start off. ugh, Terry.

Unless his +/- was also with Dame, CJ, Hood, and Whiteside, then I can't take that stat too seriously.
Not crazy about it. but I think he will play better.

Is it my imagination, or are there a disproportionate number of white-ish bigs suffering shoulder injuries in recent years? Zach, Enes, Meyers, Love...I feel like there were one or two more I had in mind when I started typing this, so maybe it was my imagination.

White Men Can't Bump.

This lineup has played 3 minutes for a +/- of 0

However, switch Hassan for Collins (still Tolliver + 4 starters) and they are -13 in 3 minutes. Switch Tolliver for anyone else and you get great results.

Additionaly, Tolliver has shared the court with Dame, our best player by a wide margin, for 22 minutes. He is -28 in those
Here are our other bench players with Dame in comparison:
Simons: +6 in 18min
Hezonja: +11 in 25min
Bazemore: +11 in 53min
Labissiere: +5 in 7min

He is also -17 in 10 minutes shared with both Dame and CJ

Strong post. 10/10, would read again.

Thanks for this. Was about to post the same. Enough sample size for him to not see the court ever again.

Edit: added other bench players with dame for comparison purpose. It makes it really more daunting.

Terrific. What site are you using to get these numbers?

I've checked the starters too just to be sure, but no one is close to being in the minus while playing with Dame. -28 in 22 minutes is really an impressive feat.

On a more positive note, our starting line-up is +23 in 46 minutes ! Let's hope Collins can come back quickly

Yeah I just can't go along with this philosophy.....based on that sample size

Tolliver was a -15 in 3 min last night. i would prefer him nowhere near the court, but injuries happen and hopefully he can turn it around.

Does this mean Tolliver is starting?

I think Stotts view Skal as a C, and won't start him along Whiteside. Hoping I'm wrong.

I don't think our defacto backup point will be starting, either, as it means we have no bench playmakers.

Mario should play PF before Tolliver. He might even play more under control.

Nothing against him but Tolliver was a bad signing. It's up to Stotts to glue him to the bench

Anybody know what Kenneth Faried is doing these days? How quickly could Olshey get him to San Antonio?

Faried is unsigned at this point

also unsigned:

Dante Cunningham
Channing Frye
Amir Johnson
Jon Leuer

other minimum contracts signed this last summer:

Jeff Green
Kyle Korver
Tyson Chandler
Wilson Chandler
Ryan Anderson
Patrick Patterson
Kyle O'Quinn
Mike Muscala
Nerlens Noel
Noah Vonleh
Jahlil Okafor
JaKarr Sampson (averaging 20 & 8 so far)
Christian Wood
Furkan Korkmaz
Jordan Bell

I never understood why the Blazers signed Tolliver considering who else was available as a minimum contract signing. Just about all of those guys above would have been better options. Even two former Blazers, Cunningham & Vonleh would have been better. Or even Channing Frye who averaged 14 & 6 per36 last season while shooting over 40% from three

it made little sense then, and even less than little now

We need someone who can play on the perimeter. Faried definitely could not do that. They wanted a shooter to backup Collins. We already know that Whiteside can't shoot, and Skal actually doesn't have horrible shooting stats. Fuck it... start Skal.
