Zach Collins Dislocated Shoulder

I once dislocated a finger while playing third base in a company softball league. One of the other infielders said I had to pop it back in, the sooner the better. So, although it took two painful tries, I got it back in. Went to a doctor. It chipped a tiny fragment of bone. Had to have a splint for a few days. Now, I'm sure a dislocated shoulder is far worse so I'm expecting more like a few weeks, perhaps a month.

Ha, I got that one topped. During lunch time recess in the 8th grade we were playing basketball in the gym and I noticed when I dribbled with my left hand it didn't feel right and when I looked at my hand, the ring finger was bent 45 degrees at the top knuckle. The teacher on duty suggested I go to the office and have the nurse look at it and my teacher was in there at the time and took a look at it and said it appeared to be dislocated and just needed to be ;popped back in. I asked him if he could do it for me and declined for obvious reasons so I went outside and began pulling and pounding on it to no avail. When I got home from school my mom took me to the doctor and it turned out that I had torn the tendon in that finger and no amount of pulling and popping was going to put it back in place. Surprisingly it wasn't painful at all.

Worse case scenario I read is that he has any tearing around the socket....KLove took 51 weeks to get back from a dislocated shoulder....hopefully Zach's is tear free.

are you sure that wasn't a separated shoulder?....a year seems like a really long time for a dislocation, but maybe it was a really bad one

is it unusual to not have heard anything yet? I'd imagine they had an MRI and completed prognosis 2 or 3 days ago.

The report on OLive said the MRI info was sent to doctors in PDX and that the results and recovery timetable wouldn’t be released until Zach was seen by the doctors. Today would be day 1 of the opportunity to have that appointment.

Love's was a dislocation but with a tear that required surgery so that's why it took so long. My oldest daughter had 2 surgeries on her shoulder as it kept popping out of place and my grandson also had surgery on his shoulder as he took a hard hit during a football game and he required surgery as well. If Collins doesn't have any tears and no surgery required then it can be a matter of days to maybe a couple weeks to a month is my guess.

I am not getting a good feeling as the longer it takes for some news the worse I am feeling about it, hope I am dead wrong. Perhaps they are working a trade and want it done before everyone knows? I am not "lol'ing"

Kinda how I feel.

That makes no sense. Why would the injury announcement be delayed by a trade? No reason for that.

Yeah, I didn't read the trade part. Shame on me. That is silly.

However the longer the delay the more concerned I am about this(his injury) being a bigger issue.

I wouldn't read anything into the time as the Blazers (as well as many teams) keep that kind of information close to the vest. I remember several forum members freaking out over McCollum's injury at the end of the year and he came back very quickly and without further issues.

I bet Kent Bazemore is waiting anxiously for news on Zach’s injury. Just about every trade scenario you hear about for a replacement for Collins includes using Bazemore’s expiring contract.

Does anyone know if Zach was on the entire road trip with the team? If he was, then I don't think his injury is significant. If he flew back to PDX prior to the end of the trip then I think it's more serious. Regardless, this is SOP for the Blazers regarding injury information unfortunately.

He went to OKC with the team and flew back with them I believe.

That doesn't seem particularly bad to me. I wouldn't have expected him to play tomorrow regardless.

Further testing is never good, considering they've had the MRI results for days now. If it was good news, it would be out, you never hold good news.

Or it's just precautionary. It would be stupid for them to let Zach play without doing everything possible to determine the likelihood of further injury.

It's not the fact that he's not playing. There was no way he was gonna play tomorrow. It's that they still don't have a timeline.

When they bring Moses back from the G league, it'll tell me it's going to be awhile...what a great move to pick him up from preseason. Might need the kid sooner than planned

I get that, but I think people are reading way too much into it. It could be as simple as a doctor saying I don't see any significant damage, but I'd like another set of images just to confirm it. You don't issue a statement on a timeline until the medical team is confidant that they have all of the information that they need to make a solid recommendation. OTOH, worst case, if Zach needs surgery and misses a good chunk or all of the rest of the season, that simply pushes Olshey to make a trade for a more established PF, which is something that a lot of folks around here favor anyway.
