However I think the important thing here is I'm not using it to try and hurt actual gay people.

I'd agree that that's an important thing. It is important that you aren't malicious towards gay people. But you should also give thought to not fostering a usage of a term that makes the lives of (some number of) gay people more uncomfortable.

You don't have to agree with me or anyone here right now. But at least think about it, whether the value of using "gay" to mean lame or stupid (when you can use those terms directly) is actually high enough that it's worth helping keep a term usage in place that does negatively affect other people, people you don't want to hurt. Even if you only use it with friends, as someone else said--those people will also use it with their pool of friends (which may not be fully overlapping with your own) and that pool of friends will also use it, etc. Each person who uses it helps foster its legitimacy. You do have influence, and it's not limited to just your immediate friends.

You can't stop people from doing these things. How is it affecting you? Do I use it in the forum? You can't control people my friend, I'm sorry. "Gave me alternatives".

Lol yeaaaaahhhhhhh

You asked me what I wanted from you. So, I told you. I am not trying to impose my will on you, I was honestly and earnestly answering your question.

Yeah, it does effect me. My daughter is gay and got beat up, threatened and bullied in high school. When people use the word gay as an insult it makes it ok to insult gays. Open your eyes to the big wide world out there beyond your small circle of like minded friends. You might actually learn something and it might make you a better person.

Again, and this is at least the third time I've said this - no one here has called you homophobic. You continue to get mad and feel attacked by something that hasn't actually happened. You keep throwing that word out like it's some kind of buzzword to make everyone who disagrees with you look like they are narrow minded and make assumptions about you. We don't need to make assumptions. You make your thoughts perfectly clear.

BNM
Then what are we still talking about here? I just find it unfortunate because this is the only forum I'm on and now people have this weird view of me so yeah to an extent I care but at the same time I'm not losing sleep.

I have a weird view of everyone who posts on here. Stop trying to snowflake yourself.

And yes, this thread has moved far far away from Zach Collins so I moved it to the OT section.

Look, it's pretty simple. Whenever someone does something completely moronic my brain says "how retarded"

That's just me being honest. If I said I could stop thinking that I'd be lying.

Now, I try never to say it in public but I'm not perfect either. Same with the word gay.

I'm really careful about not saying that. If a pretty obviously gay guy hits my car when he's texting and driving it will likely slip out. Sorry.

I'm fat still and if a fatter guy hit my car while texting and driving I'd call him a fat fuck.

I definitely feel like we should all be more civil to each other but that's not likely.

Okay so it's a personal issue of yours. I'm not the one harassing your daughter nor would I ever do these things to a gay person. You're being ignorant thinking this somehow comes back around and affects her. You don't fucking know me you're just going off this small sample size of shit I said but I guarantee you if you knew me you wouldn't be spewing this bullshit. Don't fucking treat me like I'm some idiot. We all can learn and grow as people, maybe you will learn that too.

We are not, and have not been talking about you being homophobic. You keep bring that up as some sort of red herring.

We are talking about perpetuating the negative use of the word gay as an insult. That's not the same thing as being homophobic.

For fucks sake guys look, another person that kinda thinks like me. Let me guess, you kinda have a sense of humor to deal with the dark shit in your life like me? Maybe. Wow I just can't believe it

Being aware of, and trying to personally curb, language that can hurt people you don't have any intention of hurting (or don't want to attack for that particular characteristic) is what's important. None of us are perfect--working towards an ideal is good, even if that ideal isn't ever fully met.

Perpetuating the use of the word gay as an insult has far reaching consequences. If you continue to use the word gay in a negative context, you are part of the problem - whether intentional or not.

Actually he's saying the exact opposite that you are.

He's saying that the words have negative meanings but sometimes he thinks them or uses them. You're saying you use them but are only in their non offensive meanings.

It's just annoying because most people live their lives being fake about shit acting a certain way and I come along with an honest opinion and the best part is, I'm not even hurting gay people but man let's pile up on bitchface91 for a bit and feel good about ourselves today.

There's an old line that says, "People don't 'grow up'; they just learn how to act in public." The implication being that in order to function in society, civilized people curb their base instincts for their own and others' benefit.

What you call "being fake," I call being mature.

Once again, you don't know me but you think you got it all figured out based on a few posts. Much old. So wise.

I don't think I know you at all--I'm only responding to your words. If I misinterpreted your comments, I'll gladly retract my response. Would you care to elaborate on what you meant when you referenced people "being fake" and "acting a certain way"?

Think I'm done with this forum for a while. The bullshit ganging up on somebody for an opinion is fucking ridiculous. Now if I said hey guys I go around saying this to gays, then I expect this kind of horseshit but this was on some progressive virtue signal type shit where everybody just wanted to tell me I was ignorant just because I didn't listen to the word police.

I did already and don't care to try to explain myself further, I just think it's extremely narrow minded the shit you guys did today but hey I hope you all feel like you accomplished something. Instead of attacking the real people out there who actually hurt people you go after the guy with a sense of humor. Don't need that shit, should of checked out long ago

I'm sorry, I must have missed it. Can you help me out with the post where you explained how people are fake?

I think the best reason to curb it isn't to change me, I'm already programmed.

If we stop saying mean things like this kids won't pick it up and it won't be an issue.

That's why I try.

Cippy learns a new term.

I'll think anything is funny if it's funny. A guy I worked with has muscular dystrophy and the guy was his dad's helper. The kid was pretty inspirational if you ask me. He is so weak and you can barely understand him his speech is bad from being weak.

People I work with would do impersonations of him that weren't funny. But he and I would joke with each other about ourselves. I could joke about his condition with him and we could laugh.

Don't let Sly see this but I cried in front of him when I told him how amazing he was for working so hard so he knew it wasn't meant to be mean.

And you know most people...

Just know that your opinion regarding the use of the word isn't popular. And just like it might be your "free speech" to say it, I use mine to speak out against it.
