ZACH COLLINS UNDERGOES SUCCESSFUL SHOULDER SURGERY

PORTLAND, Ore. (November 5, 2019) – Portland Trail Blazers forward Zach Collins underwent successful surgery today to repair his left labrum, it was announced by president of basketball operations Neil Olshey.

The injury occurred when Collins dislocated his left shoulder at the 2:01 mark of the third quarter in Portland's game at Dallas on October 27.

Collins will begin a treatment and rehabilitation process and will be re-evaluated in approximately four months.

The procedure was performed by Dr. Evan Ellis at PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center in Vancouver, Washington.

In the first three games of the season, Collins, 21, averaged 9.0 points (47.4% FG, 42.9% 3-PT, 100% FT), 4.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists. For his career, Collins (7-0, 250) holds averages of 5.7 points (44.2% FG, 32.4% 3-PT, 73.0% FT), 3.8 rebounds and 0.9 assists in 146 games (four starts).

yeah out for the season.
brutal. just brutal.
What can Portland realistically do to add to the roster? My prediction is nothing.
Now this doesn't mean the season is a complete bust, but rim protection and defensive intensity and toughness is really lacking. This team is too nice on defense. The only bright spot is Baze seems to mostly be a defense first player.

The bottom line is with the Nurk situation we really couldn't afford an injury like this, especially to a big.

There is a guy out there that could help us (Kenneth Faried) but with the tax situation it seems unlikely that they will add someone via free agency. With only 14 players on the roster and 2 bigs out for most of the season and an unknown for a 3rd there needs to be some sort of move to address the depth issues.

Fuck

4 months and thats just revalutation, not return

Not necessarily. We might write off the season.

Yeah, because that seems really logical that they'd just pack it in 7 games into the season.

Even if that were the case they'd have to address the depth issues. At the very least call up Hoard and Brown.

Richman says 65 games at the very least. Collins is done this year. Even if he comes back he will not be the same guy. Not this year.

With Hassan and Skal it's the perfect time to bring up Moses and let him be the insurance big...6 fouls and some boards...keep Hassan and Skal from picking up foul trouble ..the game is obviously too fast for the kid right now but Pau should be back in due time and as long as we're down a man....Moses is available. Leaves the roster spot open for trade at the deadline for an impact PF

how much you wanna bet that the organization wont do anything....

Agreed, same with Nurk. Mayyyyyyyyyybe they could both give us something around playoff time but I'm not counting on either this year. This team is going to have to figure it out without those two.

I don't think there is going to be any "playoff time" for this squad with the injuries we've had unless we make a big move

Of course we wouldn't at this point. Have to see what the next 15-20 games brings.

One thing I know for sure, this team won't give up. Right or wrong this team would never tank a season. They'll still be in the mix.

I guess I'm looking at this as possibly a cloud with a silver lining. I think this will push Olshey to make a trade for a true starting caliber PF. I think that's ultimately in the best interests of the team as opposed to playing Zach at that spot. He's a natural 5 and likes playing there better than PF. That situation is only going to increase as Zach builds his body up and fills out his frame. I'd rather see the Blazers get a solid starter at PF by using Bazemore's contract and a pick and then next season use Zach as the primary backup at both PF and C. I'm not in love with what I'm seeing out of Whiteside so letting him go at the end of the season is alright with me.

It's his non-shooting side. Zach will come back with a deadly arsenal of hook shots. You read it here first.

Mixed feeling on that. I agree they would never tank. I also know it is not a good thing to do for the culture of an organization. Always play to win. But it's just weird how sometimes it just seems like a good idea?

anyone want to break down what.portland can and cant do wrt signings and trades etc?

I'm all for tanking in the right situations but unless Dame gets hurt (knock on wood that doesn't happen) similar to the Curry situation in GS, I just don't see how that is even possible to do. He's too good for this team to ever bottom out.

Losing Zach pretty much eliminates them from getting home court in the playoffs unless some miraculous Nurk Fever type trade happens soon. However, I do think the roster is talented enough to still make the playoffs. So hang around .500 until the trade deadline while emphasizing the development of guys like Simons and Skal, then make some savvy moves like what picking up Hood and Kanter did for the team last year, add any bonus we get from Nurk and Collins, and if they sneak into the playoffs they can be just as dangerous as last year, in my opinion.

Dame can't be traded until next July, lol.

CJ can't be traded until Jan 30th

Hood, Hezonja, Tolliver, and Gasol can't be traded until Dec 15th

Everyone else is trade eligible now and can be combined with each other to make trades work.

The Blazers have their 15th roster spot open so they could sign any available free agent right now but doing so comes with a huge financial hit as they are already deep into the luxury tax.

Anything else you want to know?

Off topic and no i don't want this to go into a political conversation.
How much will the loss of revenue from China effect the cap. Will that effect this years numbers or next? Could that make matter worse for the Blazers this year?
Sorry i didn't know who else to ask?

Dear Cleveland,

I know it's not much, but how'd you like Bazemore, Trent and 2 draft picks (1st and 2nd) for some Love?

The salary numbers are set for this year, it is based on revenue from the season prior so it won't make matters worse this season.

It's hard to know how much a loss of revenue from China would effect the cap. I've heard anywhere from 0% to 15%. I'm guessing it will be closer to 0% than it is 15% as time goes on but that's simply a guess.

After this season the Blazers should be in a better spot financially in terms of not being so crazy over the cap. That's why trading an expiring contract like Whiteside for a Kevin Love or Blake Griffin gets tricky though. It pretty much guarantees they'll be in the tax next season so the China thing could cost them a lot of money if the tax line is a lot lower than projected a couple years ago. I think they're fine overall though.
