Zimmerman Case - Lightning Rod

I wasn't there. You weren't there. I'm merely saying, if what he said was true, and Martin was on top of him and was slamming his head into the ground, the shoot would be justified.

Dude, like I have said

The medical examiners basically said the way Zimmerman described Martin bashing his head in is not consistent with the injuries he suffered. It's right there in front you, stop ignoring it.

He pulled a gun like a punk and got off because of the law being grossly applied.

Wrong again. One punch from just a few months ago from a soccer teenager killed a grown man after putting him into a coma.

SALT LAKE CITY (Associated Press) -- Family members of a Utah soccer referee who died a week after a player punched him in the head called on athletes around the world Sunday night to hold their tempers in check so another family doesn't have to suffer.

They spoke at a candlelight vigil held on the front lawn of the Salt Lake City home of Ricardo Portillo, 46. Wearing white shirts and holding signs that read, "In loving memory of Ricky," family and friends stood around a table that had a picture of Portillo raising his arms in victory, with flowers and candles surrounding it.

Police have accused a 17-year-old player in a recreational soccer league of punching Portillo after he called a foul on him and issued him a yellow card.

Portillo died Saturday night after a week in a coma.

"He was a father, he was a friend, he was a grandfather, he left a whole family behind," said Johana Portillo, the oldest of his three daughters. "They should think before they do something stupid."

The suspect has been booked into juvenile detention on suspicion of aggravated assault. Authorities will consider additional charges since Portillo has passed away. An autopsy is planned. No cause of death was released.

Asked if she can forgive the teenager, Johana Portillo said she hopes to someday, but isn't ready yet.

She said Sunday she doesn't care what the punishment becomes since it won't bring back her father. She only hopes he can't get out and do the same thing to somebody else, she said.

"I feel sorry for him. I feel for his family," she said. "But if he was old enough to do what he did, then he's responsible to pay for it."

What the fuck is a regular fight? A smart man in a fight assumes death is seconds away and it's your responsibility to see the other fellow is the first to go.

You should read you the law, Oregon Revised Statutes 161. Especially161.209 since you live in Oregon. Florida also permits use of force in self defense.

Take note, there was no referee present when Trayvon went work on Whoop Ass.

Denny has already gone over this. Read his responses for your answer.

you mean the medical examiner who was paid off and kept on changing his story?

In 45 seconds (which isn't exactly a short fight) Zimmerman sustained only minor injuries. Can't say it enough.

But he "feared for his life".

No, he's just a pussy who pulled a gun. Weak shit.

According to Zimmerman, Martin found the gun and was trying to grab it. Zimmerman beat him too it.

Just out of curiosity, would you just sit there and take an asskicking, and then when you think the attacker is going for your gun, let him shoot you?

The contortions LIVs are putting themselves through to keep up their ridiculous ideas going about this act of self-defense are actually quite funny, looking back on them.

Denny has "SYG Tourrettes", which wasn't even brought up during trial, and only during routine jury instructions. The one juror in public now says they had to acquit based on 'self-defense', even though she now thinks the law should be changed.

All emotion and an inability to admit any wrong. It's Obama's Americal

The medical examiner who said this didn't even examine Zimmerman, only photos. She was destroyed on the stand, and it doesn't matter, anyhow, since it has no bearing on a self-defense acquittal. There isn't some line of injury where you are allowed self-defense.

My thought? Martin got talked into beating down a 'gay rapist' (hate crime) by his idiotic girlfriend, and he picked on the wrong guy.

They're demanding someone pay for lynching the 17-year-old black boy.

High information voter. Go figure.

It looks like someone doesn't know what "lynching" is. Trayvon Martin wasn't lynched. He was shot in a conflict with another person. These people want George Zimmerman to pay for killing him, no matter what our justice system says. THAT's lynching by a lynch mob.

That's what the lady said! Pretty damn dumb, but this is why he went to Whoop Ass!

The Rush Limbaugh crowd has spoken.

God you're hard to take serious anymore.

We have a Liberal Lynching in the making! I think a white robe would set the Reverend Al Sharpton off just about right.

Denny is using a hot-button issue and is exploiting the death of Trayvon Martin to get board hits.

He's trolling his own board. It's rather fascinating, yet pathetic. If a man of his age doesn't really know what a "lynching" is, then I may feel a bit bad for him.

More than one person testified that the injuries weren't consistent with Zimmerman's story.

Who? He had a broken nose, bruises and bloodied on the back of his head, too.

Are you saying the jury was in on the fix? That's really the only plausible explanation, if you found the evidence so overwhelming.

It was a show trial to gin up division between the population. That's what show trials do. The purpose is to distract the populace so the politicians can continue in their corrupt ways.

Actually, I'll admit that my opinion of the case as a whole has changed, with my disagreement more focused now on the law itself rather than anything else. These were two imperfect people who got caught up in an event, and all the dirty laundry that airs really is a shame to both of them. Either person could have defused the situation, but neither did, and we're sitting her arguing over this case because both people made some significant, life-altering mistakes that didn't seem like much individually, but stacked up until they couldn't be taken back. It's tragic, and I empathize with both sides of the story now, where I didn't earlier in the discussion.
This is about where I am. I think Zimmerman absolutely should have listened to the dispatcher. I don't have all the information, nor do I see any reason to pour over all the information either. I think I see how the jury could acquit. It was not a wrongful verdict. I think people should let it go. This is isn't Emmitt Till. There are two sides to this story. Unfortunately, one of those sides is dead so no one will ever really know what happened that night besides Zimmerman.

Edit: The other tragedy is the fact that most people do not get the type of defense that Zimmerman received due to the politicized nature of it all and the legal defense fund.

Sheesh.

What part of "ridiculously difficult" leads you to take the meaning "impossible" ?

He did. He was heading back to his car after looking for cross streets. What kind of murderer would tell dispatch the exact location of where they were going to commit their murder?

Where do people get their facts? Surely not from the available evidence.

The lynching was identifying an innocent black kid as "suspicious" enough to hunt him down and shoot him.

How difficult was it for one punch to kill a grown man? I don't even know what you mean, anyhow. All I was showing that even one punch can kill someone, and that it happens. Hence, it's not "ridiculously difficult". Hell, how about that actress a few years ago skiing who fell, hit her head, showed no signs of damage, then collapsed and died a day later because of head trauma?

On a side not, I find you exploiting this tragedy for board hits to be disgraceful.

It happens about 1 in a million times.

And I find you juvenile and full of shit.

You think he needed to be strung up instead of shot?

Just wow.

What the Holy Fuck are you talking about? I was just pointing out that you don't know what a "lynching" is, and pointed out the stupidity of your post. You said it was a 'lynching'. Two posters corrected your idiocy about what that means. As you describe it, it is "murder". Instead of saying 'gee, I sure look stupid for posting lynching instead of murder', you now decide to say I think Trayvon should be lynched?

Are you mentally ill? I have never posted anything near that, Troll.

If you want to know stupidity, read each and every one of your posts

"it's obama's fault"

Isn't it the job of every neighborhood watch to keep an eye out for suspicious people?

Suspicious.... IE someone they have never seen before? Weren't there examples of young teenagers breaking into houses?

I don't have time for your drama. Sorry I have a job and don't have time to be HIV positive (that's high information voter preferred). But, didn't he say he was following Martin?? Didn't sound to me like he was deescalating anything. He's all fired up and then he gets into an altercation and shoots Trayvon. He ain't no hero, but he's acquitted. Case over. So why are you trying to drag me into this?
