Zombie 2012 NBA Draft

I know Ford's system is far from perfect but I am definitely concerned by it's implications. It's not so concerning that Lillard isn't in the top 6 or top 10; but that he is way down there at #27 in the rankings this year. I went through MM's previous Ford rankings and there were very few good players who were ranked lower than 26. Jeremy Linn, Ekpe Udoh, Avery Bradley and Chase Budinger were the best I could find. And all of those were actually predicted to have higher PER's than Lillard's dismal under 10.

Just a quick FYI, those are Hollinger's projections, not Ford's. Hollinger is projecting PER based on college performance

Hollinger's projections are always weird. I get his has a system but the college game is way to different from the NBA game to have a numbers system that can accurately predict how good you will be as a pro.

Whoever is picking Beal can't do it expecting him to be a great 3 point shooter. He hasn't shown he is one.

His shooting form is one of the best seen from a prospect in years, no flaws in it a perfect shot Ford has said. With form that good then even if he isn't a 3 point shooter now you can definitely have him work on it and most likely the team will be pleased with the results.

Except, as i recall, it was Martell Webster's form that Portland fell in love with.

To be fair, the worst he ever shot from 3 in PDX was 36% as a rookie, and up to around 39%, which isn't bad for someone shooting 250-350 per year. Obviously, the rest of his game didn't turn out the way we'd hoped, but as a 3-point shooter he wasn't bad at all.

I wonder how his game would have been under a different head coach at the beginning of his career? Martell seemed to have the ability to put the ball on the floor, shoot and defend. Seems like a pretty well tooled player?

Interesting thought. I believe that Hollinger's system is outmoded because there's not enough data in the current 1-and-done world of college basketball. Perhaps in the future 2 years of college will be required. If so, the system should be much more accurate.

Interested to know if Bobcats hiring of Mike Dunlap bumps Moe Harkless up on their draft board. Dunlap did a great job with Harkless at SJU.

I love Harkless. Maybe #6, #11 and our 2nds for #2 and #30?

Assuming there is a guy we love that won't be there at #6?

3 million might also get us a pick in the 20's

I wouldn't mind coming out of this draft with Thomas Robinson, Quincy Miller and Tony Wrotten. Then add two guys like Lou Williams ( I know, save it), Goran Dragic, Spencer Hawes or Ilyasova

That would give us a nice mix of players, IMO

If I remember correctly, which is a flawed statement knowing my brain, Martell barely missed any shots in his workout

They had the video available for a while from the workout. He was shooting with a few other guards and was money in the workout. They had visions of the next Kobe and totally disregarded that both CP3 and DWill were balling in the NCAA tourney. I was happy to see the no drafting high school player rule enacted shortly after.

Happy to know the memory isn't completely gone

I think Beal is worth trading up for if they aren't sold on Lillard or Drummond at 6. I'm in the camp of we need talent more than we simply need as many picks as possible. I'd rather have one great prospect than 2 role players.

Beal isn't a can't miss prospect, but he's got a game that should translate well.

I agree. I think if there is a separation between #6 and whatever number is ahead of that then go get that number. If it's #2 or if it's #5.

Anyone mention this? Reported today Drummond has back spasms which may cause his stock to fall. Called a medical red flag.

I'm the least suspicious person in the world, but drafting an Ohio State big man with medical red flag makes me REALLY nervous.

I saw that Sullinger had medical red flags, but not Drummond

I saw nothing on Drummond, think you are confusing him with Sullinger

From DraftExpress.com (and why I like Lillard):
Lillard's ability to draw contact in the lane is a big reason he ranked as the most prolific scorer in this group, as it complements his potent shooting. Rarely do you see a guard who is both a dead-eye 3-point shooter as well as a prolific foul-drawer, which is one of the reasons Lillard is so intriguing, despite the level of competition he played against.

That's what sucks about drafts these days, BPA and BPP are two completely different things. Raising the age requirement would do nothing but help the NBA.

And I meant superstitious, not suspicious. What happens BC (before caffeine)

Dude, seriously, that is cryptic. Is he talking about his best buddy Barnes? Lillard overselling himself? Him showing he is the right pick?

I read it as him saying Lillard is a bait-and-switch pick. But maybe he meant that he's the catch and he's got them interested now.

Here is Mock Draft 8.0. Lots of movement as teams narrow down draft board http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/draft2012/story/_/id/8070329/nba-mock-draft-version-8 (insider)

Portland (via Nets)

Andre Drummond

Position: C
Height: 7-foot-0
Weight: 279 pounds
Age: 18
School: UConn
Analysis: Blazers GM Neil Olshey is a risk-taker. He also knows he has some time to rebuild this team. So, unlike Petrie, Olshey has the capital right now to take a risk or two in the draft.

It may come down to a three-way choice (assuming the top five are off the board) between Drummond, Damian Lillard and Dion Waiters. I hear the Blazers like all three, but Drummond clearly has the biggest upside of the group. He also comes with the biggest question marks.

PICK TEAM PLAYER VITALS

Portland

Jeremy Lamb

Position: SG
Height: 6-foot-5
Weight: 179 pounds
Age: 20
School: UConn
Analysis: If the Blazers get Drummond at No. 6, they can turn their attention to their needs in the backcourt. While a point guard might be ideal, with Lillard off the board, I think they go after a 2-guard. Lamb has great length for his position, is a smooth athlete and would give them some scoring in the backcourt.
