Because people like Southern Cali more. Trust me I live there and to anyone living outside of it you wanna live there

the same question he's asking (and has been asking) has been answered. But it seems he's not interested in answers, not even the obvious ones. Dude wants to rant and laugh to himself.

In other news... I really like the way the class is shaping up

One more recent bit of news, Thomas Tyner has indicated that he'll be enrolling early (Spring 2013) which should only increase the chances of him being ready to go as a true Frosh

NO they like to go to U$C because private schools play on a different academic platform then do state schools... My cousin went to Stanford and it was a laugher that the football team never went to class. They were there for football nothing else... U$C is no different..... Nor is Miami..... one day the NCAA will figure that out and the playing field may level out. Having a 4.0 Korean student taking your midterm for season tickets doesn't quite constitute an education. For every other student they have to work their asses off for grades....

Rivals on what every team must have in recruiting.....

"The Ducks have to get Eddie Vanderdoes. With Arik Armstead, Vanderdoes could join to form a devasting DL tandem with size and strength to combat the Pac-12 offenses. Also prospect like RB's Derrick Green, WR Alvin Kamara and others remain priorities. A LAST PRIORITY IS TO NOT LET USC AND WASHINGTON PULL SO FAR AWAY FROM THEM THIS YEAR ON THE TRAIL."

Seems Rivals agrees with my concern for what our recruiters are doing, or for that matter not!

Agreed. As long as Oregon gets Eddie V, their class will be solid and I wouldn't mind who else can we get.

Though Oregon did do great in Baseball(nearly made it to the World Series) so that's a plus. I have a distinct feeling we'll know when Eddie signs near July.

Also It turns out that Ricky Seals Jones has us in his top 4 or 5!

Who to thought. Was our basketball program that attractive(it did beat LSU after all lol). Mariota would have a daydream playing with the #1 Reciever in the country!

Rivals has a lot of writers. Some write about things nationally, some regionally, and some are insiders of a single program. The insider types vary in how reliable they are... you kind of have to track them over time to know who's generally dishing facts and who's blowing smoke. It's pretty silly to claim that one writer's article expresses the view of the whole site though. I'm on the Oregon rivals board every day and your concerns are not what the trusted program insiders (AJ, Wolf, Tony D) are saying at all.

They do have a free week trial where you could find this out for yourself.

So....what are the people on those boards saying? Care to give an abridged version?

So the Nike event The Opening is coming up this weekend in Beaverton starting Friday the 6th. Oregon commits attending are RB Dontre Wilson, Darren Carrington & Alex Redmond. High profile types being recruited include 5* RB Derrick Green of VA, 4* RB Alvin Kamara of GA, 4* WR Ricky Seals-Jones from TX, 3* OL Scott Quessenberry from CA, 4* DT Eddie Vanderdoes from CA, 4* DE Torrodney Prevot of TX, 4* DE Jordan Sherit from FL, 4* LB Mike Mitchell from TX, 5* CB Vernon Hargreaves from FL, 4* CB Leon McQuay of FL & 4* S Tahaan Goodman of CA. Many of these guys will be visiting UO prior of following the camp.

the event is open to the public

Vanderduck is what the guy I trust the most is saying. He seems pretty sure of it

Oregon handles it's recruiting differently then most schools. They hand out far fewer offers, preferring to meet guys who are interested and do thorough research into their background. Sometimes even a highly ranked good kid who is interested won't get an offer because he lacks a valued skill... USC WR commit Steven Mitchell openly spoke of wanting to be a Duck, but he doesn't block so no offer. But just because they're being more selective in who they offer, doesn't mean that they aren't putting in the work recruiting. Their coaches weigh the extra evidence from the camps and Sr. years before they send out most of their offers. They also really prefer that guys visit first before they extend a committable offer.

if you notice the posters who are UO grads or long time fans and have followed Duck recruiting for years are pretty comfortable with Chip's slow play because they've seen it work for a few years now. This time 2 years ago Oregon had 4 commits and ended up with arguably their best class ever. Same time last year we had 7 commits and ended up with another stellar class. This year's class is off to a great start with 8 really solid kids and they're in on tons of highly rated prospects.

Yes that's right..... Sure Oregon would have passed on Cravens, Kenny Bigelow, Isaac, Hutchings and Max Browne for the proper fit.... You keep telling yourself that Stomp!

HAHAHAHA!

You're far from the only person who went to UofO Stomp..... Losing Hutchings to the Condemns made a statement that USC still runs the show in recruiting.... Any insider worth their salt would agree.....

If the Ducks lose Vanderdoes, trust me from guys who I know that have actually played for the Ducks..... this recruiting season will be considered a failure!

Why? Because outside of Tyner who lives 100 mins from Autzen, we wont have secured any other player in the top 50.... for a program like ours, and what we've done in the last 4 years, that would be taking a step back!

Rationalize it all you want.... The Mamba and his 5 stars really matter. I think we can all agree to that!

BTW- the only reason we are even talking talking about Vanderdoes is because of AA!!! Ya know that other 5 * recruit we got!

when you do the insane laugh thing, do you think anyone is ever laughing with you? Yet again you demonstrate that your reading comprehension absolutely sucks as I didn't say anything resembling the nonsense above. Most of those guys you list expressed little to no interest in UO at any point that I'm aware of

You're far from the only person who went to UofO Stomp.

again with the inability to read... I'd just stated "if you notice the posters who are UO grads or long time fans..." referring to many fine posters in our group who actually have a sense of the programs history and how things work. Johnny come lately bandwagon fan telling us whats what and saying "We" is whats really funny

that USC always kills in recruiting has been my stance all along and something you've argued against. I've listed the many obvious advantages over Oregon that they enjoy (weather, tradition, tremendous recruiting base, etc...) , but you always put on the tin foil hat and claim they're paying guys.

If the Ducks lose Vanderdoes, trust me from guys who I know that have actually played for the Ducks..... this recruiting season will be considered a failure!

you think I trust you or should... really?

whatever dude... we've heard this same opinion of yours so many times in this same thread. Guess what people think of someone who keeps repeating the same BS over and over and over and then occasionally breaks into an all caps laugh?

So...you think we may get two to three of those guys perhaps? I'm leaning more towards Eddie V, Derrick Green, RSJ, and Quessenberry

I'm rooting for Prevot to become a Duck and have read stuff indicating his real interest... he seems like a great kid. But besides EV, I don't know of others really said to be leaning this way.

Of course this next weekend will be a first visit out West for a lot of these kids. Pretty awesome annual perk for Nike to fly in the top HS talent from around the country into UO's backyard. July in Oregon is about as nice as it gets and a whole different world then what a lot of these kids are used to.

I just checked out Prevot's page. Not bad, although he has offers from Texas, LSU, and Utah. And we've seen what they do with defensive players :V

If Green likes Oregon, we'll officially have one of the best rushing attacks in the nation and we'd have a Jonathan Stewart to compliment the Adrian Peterson in Tyner. If RSJ likes Oregon, Mariota is gonna have a number 1 target aside from Lyerla.

SLYPOKERDOG-

I imagine that most feel the way they do about SlyPokerDog who signs every post with

I don't care. I see a lot of people sign their posts :/

Also, anyone else think that we may get a commit or 2 from those people visiting Eugene?

Vanderdoes trimmed his list to 10. Ducks are still remaining (no surprise there). The left (in no particular order)

Baylor, California, Florida, LSU, Nebraska, Oregon, Penn State, UCLA, USC and Washington

That's a relief. He does want to play baseball too, and IIRC, Oregon got far into the College baseball playffos right? Better than USC's baseball program methinks.

So far, I only see him going to either of these for:
LSU, Nebraska, Oregon, and USC.

Why Penn State is on there is beyond me.

One thing that worries me about landing Green is we'll have 4 of the top running backs in the nation with DAT, Tyner, Green and Wilson..... Not counting Marshall... I feel one or two of these kids will decommitt if they feel they'll be playing behind DAT, Tyner and Green for 3-4 years....

As for Vanderdoes, I hope his friendship with AA is a big factor because USC has one hell of a defensive recruiting class coming in. Vanderdoes, Bigelow, Hutchings, Cravens would be wicked!

Honestly, I could careless if we land Green.. We already have Tyner. I think we need to focus on recruiting for both sides of the line as we have stacked Skill positions.

I can't believe that no one is excited for Byron Marshall.. Has anyone watched the kids highlight tapes?.. He reminds me of Lamichael when he first came. He has the vision, cuts, and ability like James had. I think that people will be surprised by the kid.

I have and he's a stud.... I think we are blessed at the high profile positions.... We could add maybe one more stud receiver and then I hope we focus on linemen and defensive secondary players..

My dream would be to pick up Redfield, Conner, Luke, Likely III Quessenberry, Vanderdoes, and Falah.

I see Redfield leaning towards USC, unless he feels that Oregon he can start ASAP or something. We'd have to impress him hard.

Nothing wrong with more OL like QBerry and Falah. And Eddie V is a must, but the idea of playing alongside the #2 DT in the nation(Bigelow) is very appealing. Or the idea of honing your craft to play in the next level(LSU/Nebraska). Of course, he could be like a Halota Ngata though

Marshall is so 2012 Football Commits and Recruiting News thread ;)

I've been hearing good things about his working out/preparing for the upcoming year. It's pretty much a lock that he'll be playing as a true Freshman.

based on what? I know he grew up there but dude is supposed to have real interest in UO. Its really doubtful that he'd start right away though as there are many quality Safeties ahead of him... he'll have to work his way up.

Haha I know, but you hear everyone talking about Tyner and how great he will be, but I think people forget that Byron Marshall will have an extra year experience and may be better.

according to a direct quote via rivals, Nico will decide between UCLA and USC within the next week. That said, within the same article he says he still plans on visiting Oregon on the 9th and is considering them :dunno:

The idea for learning alongside Su'a Cravens will be hard to resist. But if he goes to Oregon then great.

"The idea for learning alongside Su'a Cravens would be hard to resist"
That's exactly right.... and for Vanderdoes to get to play next to Bigelow and having Hutchings cleaning up the middle. That's just a lethal class!

Best Defensive class hands down this year, all while on recruiting probation!

I still hope we get Redfield and Vanderdoes but something tells me USC has a handful of spots left with their names on them....

The bigger question might be what makes Duck fans think we will get these guys?

As it's been said to me time and time again, USC has the weather, the girls, national exposure, 5* after 5* recruit, big money, and they play no one in their division to make the Pac-12 championship every year...... Why wouldn't a Califonia kid go there or any kid for that matter right?

However if Redfield and Vanderdoes end up at UW a team most in this country have forgotten about with their new strength being Tosh, than I'd say we might want to look into our recruiters and see if they are really best suited for this competitive level we need to be at now. We only have 1 player in the top 50 and we are a top 5 school and a top 10 school three years in a row, so something is a miss.....

Some posters on this board don't put much value on 5* recruits and prefer the old guard way of recruiting that Oregon continues to do, but there's not a poster on this board or anywhere I'd bet that doesn't see the instant value DAT, COLT and AA brings to this team and they clearly are 5* level talent.

So while I'm sure it's easy to say the Ducks are looking for the right fit for both player and team,it's also clear to see we don't have a Tosh or a Monte Kiffin working for us and we need one.

Uncle Phil didn't invest a ton of his money to come in second, I think changes willl be coming in the recruiting department if we lose Vanderdoes and Redfield and they should!

In order for Oregon to win national championships we need top level high school players and there's no way around that! Please keep in mind we very easily could have lost the Rose Bowl last year had DAT decided to be a Trojan!
