Re: 2013 Official NBA Off-season Movement & Rumors

I don't get why he's still on the Rockets. Were all the stories about him being shopped for a draft pick just not true? I think he's being saved for a sign-and-trade for Howard. But I don't really get the fascination - hasn't he proved to be a huge bust?

How can you be proven to be a bust in one year? Robinson isn't THAT bad.

Re: 2013 Official NBA Off-season Movement & Rumors

I didn't mean trade for them. They will be released at some point it sounds like and even if we were interested we would wait until we blew our free agent money before signing them.

McCollum makes Brooks redundant. Delfino isn't bad though. Still, we have bigger fish to fry. He wouldn't really rank high on the list of FA targets.

More free agent rumblings - OJ Mayo's likely suitors: Jazz, Bucks, Minnesota, Clippers, Blazers, Bobcats, Bulls.

Re: [Free agency] 24 hrs away!

There simply aren't the players available to provide the jump we would need to make Aldridge reconsider. If we don't trade him now, we'll lose him in two years. The longer we wait to trade him, the less we can get for him. We can trade him to a team he may not think of targeting because they think they can convince him to stay. With a year left or as a UFA, that "time to convince" is gone.

LA had his time with us. The Roy/Oden crumbling dashed our hopes, and LA started looking elsewhere. We need to rebuild with another PF.

The Blazers will not get fair player to player value for him back in a trade and it will be a step backward just saying.

Don't see it unless we trade Matthews. We already have a lot of SG's.

Re: [Free agency] 24 hrs away!

I'd rather the free agency period start off with a sign and trade deal involving Tyreke Evans and Wes Matthews. After that we could acquire a center. Also, getting Haddadi for his rebounding for a million per would be terrific.

Re: [Free agency] 24 hrs away!

I don't understand the fascination with Evans. He's a horrible fit next to Lillard.

Re: [Free agency] 24 hrs away!

BTW - How bullshit is it that a guy like Monta Ellis, who is nothing but a pure scorer, can command near-MAX money, yet the league's best lockdown defender, in his prime, is having trouble getting $6 mill? That really speaks to the state of the game...

Doubt Monta gets anywhere close to a max deal. He'd be lucky to pull 11 mil/year again.

I never really understood why the Bruce Bowes of the league didn't get paid top dollar; while the t-macs got shit tons. It's a entertaining league and only the purest put big value on defenders.

Seems like simple supply and demand. There's elite defenders like Bowen, Battier (in his prime), Allen but its not hard to find athletic wing defenders who can do 80% of what those guys do at a fraction of the cost. Think Danny Green, Jimmy Butler, Sefolosha, Corey Brewer, Avery Bradley, etc. I also think of Ariza, Deshaun Stevenson, and Von Wafer all appearing on successful playoff teams in the recent past, doing quite well and then being let go of by their teams who didn't want to invest big money in them. These are guys you can get in the second round, off the scrap heap, etc. and usually when you put them next to great players and put some time into developing them into D and 3's guys they can pay dividends- but there's no reason to pay them more than 4 mil/year because there will always be more athletic wing players cycling around the league.

On the flip side, there's not a lot of scorers like Monta Ellis around. Hes very flawed but he is an incredible penetrator, an elite fast break scorer, his shooting is good these days. I'm glad hes not on the W's anymore but I'm sure there will be some teams willing to pay him to start or be an uber 6th man.

Re: [Free agency] 24 hrs away!

Cole Aldrich was another big who was finally showing something at the end of the yr with Sac - he'd be very cheap as well

I think he is a great fit next to Lillard because he likes to attack the rim. None of our other SG's seem to prefer that. They mostly like to take 3's or mid-range jumpers. But in reality Evans would probably come of the bench so it isn't that he has to fit specifically next to Lillard. He could come in for Lillard. He has played a lot of PG. Or Lillard could play SG with him.

We don't need that anymore with CJ. Evans can't shoot a lick, so playing him alongside Lillard basically forces Lillard to be the SG.

CJ is better at penetrating then our other SG's but he is not on Evan's level at attacking the rim. He prefers to bomb away as well. If we bring in any SG (Evans or Mayo) it means Matthews is gone. So it isn't likely but possible.

Re: [Free agency] 24 hrs away!

C.J is a rookie and he's not the type of rookie that Lillard or Roy was and I hate relying on rookies.

What does that mean?

I'm sure not many people thought Lillard would be as good as he was when we first drafted him.

I would say he isn't as well but he is dang close. He won't get R.O.Y. but that is because we aren't going to require him to carry the team. If he was on another team (like the Bobcats, or 76ers as two examples) then he would have a great shot at being R.O.Y.

Re: [Free agency] 24 hrs away!

Adding another guy who can go out and create baskets for himself and others is as much a necessity as finding a starting center. He would be a great fit. The more perimeter players you have who can create for themselves and others the better. I like Wes Matthews a lot, but he's not taking any pressure off Damian because teams know he and Batum can't penetrate to get to the rim. Having Lillard, Evans and now McCollum is a fantastic dynamic 3 guard combo that could play together for stretches.

Re: [Free agency] 24 hrs away!

But he takes pressure off of Lillard by being a very good 3 point shooter, so teams have to stay out on him when Lillard has the ball. When Lillard has the ball, teams can sag a lot further off of Evans

Re: [Free agency] 24 hrs away!

As for Bynum, you throw in a clause similar to what Roy had with his Minnesota deal. Knee goes bad, no more money. Then, with new medical team here, likely worth the risk. It's a year to year gamble.

I might be amenable to that if we thought his knee had a chance

I doubt he goes for that.

Going after Evens and Bynum would be quite a gamble for the Blazers and I actually like it. If this was the year 2000 we would probably already have them both.
