Re: [Free agency] 24 hrs away!

There is zero chance we go for Bynum. Olshey may fool you with his looks, but no one could be so stupid as to be Bynum's 3rd sucker team.

Re: [Free agency] 24 hrs away!

Its either Pek or Splitter imo. I think it will come down to Splitter because I have a feeling someone is going to come out with a giant contract offer for Pek that is bigger then what we could offer him. Splitter we will have to overpay to get the spurs to not match and i'm fine with a Splitter at 7-8 a year but I have a feeling it will have to be at around 10m a year for the spurs to let him go which is much to high for him. I can say i'd rather have splitter at 10m a year then McGee/Jordan at the same amount.

Splitter lost money in the playoffs.

He was atrocious!

Re: [Free agency] 24 hrs away!

Just stay away from Tony Allen, and ya'll are cool in my book...

For some reason, Grizz management seems reluctant to offer the best defender in the league a relatively measly $6 mill...

If ya'll jump on TA for that price, I might just have to become a Blazers fan instead.

BTW - How bullshit is it that a guy like Monta Ellis, who is nothing but a pure scorer, can command near-MAX money, yet the league's best lockdown defender, in his prime, is having trouble getting $6 mill? That really speaks to the state of the game...

Pg - Lillard
SG - McCollum/Allen

I'd love this rotation.

I'd love this rotation.

That'd be what's up...

Learning from our Mayo years, it'd probably work best like this -

PG - Lillard/McCollum
SG - Allen/McCollum/Barton

Let Lillard focus on the offense while Allen locks down the other team's best player defensively... then when both teams go to the bench, you'd have McCollum/Barton with another scoring punch that your opponent can't match off the bench.

Can't believe we're selling such a valuable defensive player so short...

Re: [Free agency] 24 hrs away!

I'd love to offer Pek a big contract just to stick it to Minny, but Pek is not much of an upgrade over Hickson overall. I'd rather keep Hickson and also try to add a nice roleplayer like Tony Allen.

I like the potential of a Lillard/McCollum backcourt for the fact that they both play really well off the ball and can shoot. I really liked what I saw from Lilard last year playing with Maynor.

Allen would bring something we didnt have off the bench last year: defense and talent.

Re: 2013 Official NBA Off-season Movement & Rumors

while I understand what he's saying, there's going to be a LOT of teams with cap space that don't get Tier One (or Two, or Three) guys. Andre Miller got paid 2M more a year by us in FA then he would've otherwise (MLE), because we struck out. A lot of the RFAs that are close to worth it are going to be matched by their old teams. Ones that have no cap space are still trying to be players through S&T's (like GSW).

Re: [Free agency] 24 hrs away!

NOVoodoo, I was under the impression that Tony's not much for the offensive side of the ball. Is it better to have him at the 2 (a terror on D but a nightmare on O, and a horrid 3pt shooter), or Wes, who is one of the best 3-and-D guys around (and 5 years younger)?

I never really understood why the Bruce Bowes of the league didn't get paid top dollar; while the t-macs got shit tons. It's a entertaining league and only the purest put big value on defenders.

Re: 2013 Official NBA Off-season Movement & Rumors

...Splitter...
Do you think we could possibly get Splitter for 7 or 8 million? San Antonio doesn't usually like to spend big $$$.

I thought he was a RFA but I saw somewhere that he was UFA. Anyone know?
I think San Antonio will pay to keep him. He did a great job on Zach in the Memphis series. But I'd love to have him. I think you'd need to offer DeAndre Jordan money to land him.

...Thomas Robinson?

I don't get why he's still on the Rockets. Were all the stories about him being shopped for a draft pick just not true? I think he's being saved for a sign-and-trade for Howard. But I don't really get the fascination - hasn't he proved to be a huge bust?

...Kirilenko or Millsap?

I have always LOVED Kirilenko, but he's too old for us now. Millsap would be interesting. We're supposed to be after Carl Landry and Millsap is a rich man's Landry.

...Webster?

Don't know, don't care. I'd rather give Claver, Barton or Crabbe those minutes.

...Andre Miller?

LOVE this idea. (Apart from anything, it would be a real bone to throw to Aldridge, as he loved playing with Andre and was really sad to see hi go.) But would Andre? I think he's tired of being bounced around. Is he like Koufos, one of Karl's guys that the new regime doesn't want?

Re: [Free agency] 24 hrs away!

We have 11.6 mil to offer. You think minny matches? We blow our entire load on this signing.

IMO we are NOT going to tie up money like last yr and miss out on other chances with Minny very likely to match

Once an offer is made, there are three days to match and its over. Quick and easy. The reason the Batum thing took so damn long was because they didn't actually make an offer at first, but said they were going to, trying to force us to haggle. Then, they made an offer, but it was an illegal offer, and then finally once all that was worked out the three days to match began.

Portland is not run by the dumb Kahn, so they will simply make a good offer and wait 3 days. That's it.

Re: [Free agency] 24 hrs away!

I think we'd be better off going after Timofey Mozgov, Denver would be less likely to match since they're already invested in McGee. They shouldn't get into a bidding war and pay him everything they have, but maybe 6 mil, then use the rest on another free agent for depth.

I thought the old timeline was three days. Didn't they shorten it?

Re: [Free agency] 24 hrs away!

My advice to the Blazers is to stay the hell out of the first round of free agency, unless it's for a legitimate star. Look at how many teams have money, and look at how little talent is really out there. It's simple economics: Too little supply of talent and too much demand for it, drives prices way up.

We're not competing for squat this year. It's best to save our cap space for a future year when there are fewer teams with cap space and more appetizing free agents. We'll get better players at better prices when we can better use them.

Right now, we're set to overpay for mediocrity. A team in our position can't afford to do it. Let other teams overpay. Make offers, but be disciplined about it. Chances are we'll lose our top choices, but don't let that discourage you. Wait until the smoke clears, see what's left and then make a reasonable offer to those players. Chances are, all those players will do is solidify our bench a bit, and barely make an impact.

I agree, perhaps target a few guys with reasonable offers but do not overpay, or use the capspace to facilitate a trade. My preferred route remains to try for Asik if Dwight goes to Hou

I don't think we have that luxury Max. This is our one year to show Aldridge we're improving our winning ways. We have to sign two guys who can make a difference immediately. LMA has two years left on his contract. If we don't make the playoffs next season, we will either have to trade him next summer or before the trade deadline in the 2014-2015 season. I'm still not convinced that Aldridge hasn't made the decision that he wants to leave in two years, but if we're really making a push to keep him, this is our year. This is our one chance.

Re: [Free agency] 24 hrs away!

I wonder if Paul Allen or the Blazers would be willing to go over the cap on one or two players on a short contract to improve the team enough to make a push and then re-evaluate from there? It might solve a lot of problems in the short term and open up new options down the road that aren't available now. Although I'm not sure on the rules. I was just thinking if he was willing to pony up on a short term contract or two.

Aldridge is gone. Luckily, his value is at an all time high. Trade him this year and rebuild with the remains.

Re: [Free agency] 24 hrs away!

There simply aren't the players available to provide the jump we would need to make Aldridge reconsider. If we don't trade him now, we'll lose him in two years. The longer we wait to trade him, the less we can get for him. We can trade him to a team he may not think of targeting because they think they can convince him to stay. With a year left or as a UFA, that "time to convince" is gone.

LA had his time with us. The Roy/Oden crumbling dashed our hopes, and LA started looking elsewhere. We need to rebuild with another PF.

I'm just saying, if the idea is to make Aldridge happy, we have to do it now. Not saying I agree with it.

Re: 2013 Official NBA Off-season Movement & Rumors

Marc Stein: Rockets, I'm told, still exploring trades for Aaron Brooks and/or Carlos Delfino that must be consummated today to avoid releasing them Twitter @ESPNSteinLine

Any interest? Both pretty decent players but we don't need a SG. Can Carlos play SF?

Nope. We can't have them eating up our cap space.

I didn't mean trade for them. They will be released at some point it sounds like and even if we were interested we would wait until we blew our free agent money before signing them.
