Re: [Free agency] 24 hrs away!

Going after Evens and Bynum would be quite a gamble for the Blazers and I actually like it. If this was the year 2000 we would probably already have them both.

Evans isn't much of a gamble though. He's an already productive and established player who is a former ROY who has been stuck in a cancerous environment in Sacramento. Bynum is a monumental risk. I wouldn't touch him with a 10 foot pole. Gortat, Horford, Asik, Pek would be some of my targets at center.

Re: [Free agency] 24 hrs away!

I doubt he goes for that.

I don't see a team giving him 10+ without any sort of insurance against him falling apart. Maybe so, if a team strikes out big. But seems unlikely. I could be wrong. Seems like could be between getting 11-14 a year, with clauses, or getting 6-8 without. Who knows.

Re: [Free agency] 24 hrs away!

YES on Bynum!!!

I don't want to overpay for mediocrity. Our team, in our situation and in our city, needs to roll the dice to become a contender.

I could care less if we compete for the playoffs with a Pek or a Splitter. You are going to have to overpay them and who knows if Aldridge sticks around. Give Bynum a contract guaranteed for the next 2 years.....maybe with a team option after that. If he holds up, we just may compete for it all. That scenario would also allow us to keep Aldridge. If he doesn't hold up, we can shed his salary in a couple years and move Aldridge if need be and blow it up.

It's risky, but I care about titles, not one-and-done's. At least this gives us a chance. Bynum was the 2012 All-Star starter. He's got the talent. And maybe...just maybe, we are due some better luck with injuries.

Re: [Free agency] 24 hrs away!

Neil Olshey in his GM history seems to have made it a point to have good relations with the player's agents, I think it could prove beneficial in the FA period coming up, bottom line is it can't hurt

Re: [Free agency] 24 hrs away!

Cole Aldrich was another big who was finally showing something at the end of the yr with Sac - he'd be very cheap as well

Aren't we at our limit of scrub white guys playing center?

Re: Official 2013 Free Agency thread

Haynes just tweeted Olshey supposedly is not interested in Bynum.

Next!

I'd still like to take a shot at Thomas Robinson. I think reports of his bustitude are a bit premature.

Re: Official 2013 Free Agency thread

Who keeps putting our name out there connected with every loser?

Re: 2013 Official NBA Off-season Movement & Rumors

How can you be proven to be a bust in one year? Robinson isn't THAT bad.

I guess, but I have to wonder why Sacto unloaded him so quickly.

Re: 2013 Official NBA Off-season Movement & Rumors

Considering all the $$ out their for free agents, and the recognition there is too much $$ chasing too few of them, perhaps our cap space is better used in trade, either to free up cap space for a team with a real shot at Howard (i.e. Houston, Clips), or acquire a player from a team that wants to soft tank next year, and has to trade a 'needle mover' to do it? I wonder what teams would be in that position that have a PF or Center we could steal?

keep in mind that while there is a lot of capspace out there not all teams are gong to go crazy because they are in rebuild modes that may take 2-3 years and some of those teams have there sights on next years draft and won't want to improve too much. Also a team like the Cavs are leaving most of there room fro lebron next yr - just in case. And with the new CBA lux tax penalties teams IMO are going to be a lot more cautious - especially regarding everyone but the top tier players, we'll soon find out if my opinion on this is correct

No team would trade a promising player for nothing. Tank or not. At the very least, they would get first round picks back.

That's the biggest thing. THere's lots of money available, but a lot of teams are in different spots. And even some in a similar position, are looking at different positions. There's a handful of teams, N.O., Detroit, etc. looking at Iggy. We very likely are not. There's very likely teams going to spend their money on Jennings, Mayo, Jack, Reddick, Evans, Martin, Teague, Kirilenko, Josh Smtih, etc. A good chunk of players will eat into space we're not interested in anyways.

Re: 2013 Official NBA Off-season Movement & Rumors

The only guard we need is a POINT GUARD. I hope we end up with Shaun Livingston for a bargain price.

Doesn't sound like Olshey even wants to get a backup PG at this time. He has hinted that CJ will cover it. I hope that changes though. I would be fine with Livingston but we are going to only pay the vet minimum for one.

Back in the day, I lived in Sactown. In the 90s, the Kings were the worst team in basketball. Finally, they brought in Geoff Petrie, and in the summer of 1995 I think it was, he

Traded for Chris Webber - Then thought to be a malcontent, and who said he wouldn't report to the Kings
Signed Vlade Divacs as a FA
Drafted Jason Williams - White Chocolate - Also thought to be a risky move.

They all panned out and it was a great team to watch.

Point being, I think Olshey is in somewhat of a similar position to Petrie. We have nothing to show for Oden and Roy (no assets gained, as they say) and so we are almost starting from scratch.

Maybe its time for riskier moves that would not be taken under normal circumstances.

There's some dispute over how much Petrie was responsible for the Drexler-Porter-Kersey-Duckworth-Williams Blazers, but they too were an awesome team. And then he went South. Maybe another team should hire him for 3 years then quickly dump him before he goes off.

That could be painful. I dunno that Aldridge will like playing with no pure PGs. That said, it doesn't have to be the PG feeding the post - Rudy and Camby were excellent Aldridge-feeders in the past.

HOU waived Brooks and Delfino. I'd love to pick up AB on the cheap

No thanks. We have a ton of guards, but if we get another one it should be
(a) an ACTUAL PG (not a scoring guard),
(b) a good defender
(c) tall

What about going after Matt Barnes as a backup SF? A guy you hate to play against but would love to have on your team.
