"It's Houston. Source close to Dwight Howard confirms that he'll join the Rockets. He'll inform the Lakers and make an official announcement."

Statement from Lakers General Manager Mitch Kupchak
July 05, 2013 7:25 pm PDT

The following statement has been issued by Lakers General Manager Mitch Kupchak.

"We have been informed of Dwight's decision to not return to the Lakers. Naturally we're disappointed. However, we will now move forward in a different direction with the future of the franchise and, as always, will do our best to build the best team possible, one our great lakers fans will be proud to support. To Dwight, we thank him for his time and consideration, and for his efforts with us last season. We wish him the best of luck on the remainder of his NBA career."

Yet one more example of why advanced stats are considered a very small part of evaluating talent.

I value advanced stats, I just don't think they tell the entire story. That said, I value Wes more than Klay Thompson. Barnes would be the key in a LMA/Lee deal (which will never happen), and Barnes advanced stats sucked last year. Yet I saw he can create his own offense in the post as a rookie, which is intriguing in terms of his future.

WHAT!!!!!

@bigjohnNEP
Just saw Dwight Howard at PDX……. my sources say he is leaning now to signing with the Blazers!

Why do you listen to that clown? He writes for Bleacher Report's JV squad.

Yeah, I actually prefer Millsap to Smith as well... I'm just confused by their overall direction. Even though Millsap would be an improvement over Smith, it doesn't really move the needle for them at all.

I think at this point, they need to put together a near respectable team and hope for the 2014 free agency and good pick. I actually applaud that they aren't jumping the boat like many teams are

Calderon 4/28 to Dallas, all guar I think, wow a horrible contract IMO but that seems to be a frequent event this offseason

So much for the Calderon/Dwight rumors...

I guess this also officially puts Darren Collison on the market.

Bang. They're gonna start dropping like flies now:

The Atlanta Hawks have agreed to a contract with Paul Millsap, source confirms.

Big blow to JJ I think.

So wrapping up GS' activity today (free agency related) via Marcus Thompson II:

- They got a few TPEs fro the Utah trade, not one big one. I suppose the largest would be about 11 mil from RJ's contract.

- Warriors will not be re-signing Jarret Jack and backup PG will not be a priority. They like Iguodala's ball handling and seem ok throwing Bazemore (and Nedovic?) into the fire. Their top priority now is adding 4/5 depth with Festus out half the season and Biedrins and Landry gone.
