2016 NBA Draft mega thread

I think Thon Maker has made a mistake by declaring for the draft. I don't think he's anywhere near ready for the NBA. I think he should have gone to college to improve his game.
I think he was going to have major problems becoming eligible to play in college, so that is why he took the chance to see if he could declare for the draft. I'm surprised the NBA said he was draft eligible to be honest.

So the Blazers would have been picking either 18th or 19th (depending on the coin toss) without the trade.
I still think Alexander is good as most players in that range. Maybe Montero as well. And I am sure there will be a free agent in summer league that will emerge as well. Only 15 roster spots, so it is tough to find room for these guys. But we need to develop the nuggets we do find.

Blazersedge fucked up on the meaning of that tweet and later redacted it. He simply got some feedback from all of the Nba front office people during the high school players vs international players game that was in Portland, not that the Blazers were specifically interested in him.

One of the few 3/D prospects in the draft: Jared Uthoff (SF/PF)

18.9 PPG | 6.4 RPG | 1.0 SPG | 2.5 BPG | 38 3P%
96 DRtg | 8.7 BLK%

So we lost out on having the 19th pick in this draft ... can't say I'm too mad about it.

Draft gurus ... would you rather have a late teens pick in this draft or one in 2017 (which we could have next season)?

2018 is the year of the tank-for-DeAndre-Ayton draft.

Still think Taurean Prince is a future top 10 SF. Dude could be 1st team all defense and a 38% 3pt shooter. He can attack the basket at times as well. I wouldn't mind trading Aminu for him and a future pick

There's a lot of interesting projects that will probably slide into the second-round:

A full 7'2" w/o shoes and very fluid.

We have got to get somebody who can post up. A trade into the first round might be ideal.

We don't have the time to get a player ready for the post. I mean Vonleh level post game is the majority of players out of the draft. We need to get a post player that is already established. Hell if the Grizzlies would be down to move Z-Bo this summer he'd be a good fit.

Maybe the Grizz will blow it up this summer and we could trade for Gasol, and sign his brother.

Not that I think there would have been an instant impact player at 14, or the late lottery, but man, give me a pick over 20+ point playoff blowouts any day of the week. Now I know the series isn't over, but if this trend continues ... I'll pass on playoffs over lottery until we are actually competitive.

I think the fact that we made the playoffs with so little is more beneficial than adding a late lottery pick. It helps in free agency that players know they could be the missing piece.

If they were competitive in the Playoffs I'd agree but they need every bit of talent and asset pieces they can get. If they somehow come out of this with just 1 or even 0 wins and no Draft picks, that is a pretty empty year. Kind of a waste of a Lillard season when he is entering his prime.

Even if the next MJ gets drafted at 14, I won't blame Olshey or the coach/players for wanting to make the playoffs instead. I'm reminded of the phrase "Hindsight is 20/20". Did I think we were gonna win the championship this year? No. Did I think things would be looking better than they are? Yes. But I still am glad we made the playoffs rather than keeping our 1st round pick.

You can guess, and sometimes with great accuracy, but ultimately you cannot know the answer to something without experience and observation. It's John Locke's claim that knowledge is empirical - in that it comes from experience. That's basically to say you can't know what's going to happen until it happens... Which happens to be why skipping rocks across a river is so awesome.

If we're trading into the first Neil has to swing for the fences: Jeanne.

7'3" and a quick leaper is extremely rare. The last player to have those qualities was Gobert.

Zubac/Prince will go late-ish first. Jeanne will be a riser. Ceiling: late-lotto - floor: early second. It's tough to project him because he's so raw.

GP2 could drop - he turns 24 in December.

I don't blame the players for making the playoffs either; it's their job and they should want to play postseason basketball.

I too had no visions of a championship parade down Broadway, but I expected a more competitive series. Losing by 20+ in the playoffs is pointless. We did it in 2014 (Spurs), we did in last year (Grizz), and it's looking that again this year against LAC.

I grew up with this team and a lot of my childhood was seeing the Blazers make the playoffs and get bounced in 3-4 games each and every year ... I'm just tired of it.

I don't think this series is over by any means, but if we get swept or bounced in 5 and we're losing by double digits? Pass. I'll take my chances in the Lottery.

GPII would be a fantastic pick-up if he's available in the 2nd Round. What's the likelihood that he does slip out of the first round?

I think it's pretty much a sure thing that he drops out.

It's rare to see a 24 y/o picked in the first round.
