2016 NBA Draft mega thread

Ron Baker, the next Luke Babbitt? What we hoped Babbitt would become?

Babbitt has a few inches on Baker, but Babbitt took a while to come into his own. I feel like Baker may be McDermott like in the sense that he could come out knocking them down from day 1. Seems like he could be a decent 3 and D guy with the D probably needing some time to get on par with others around the league.

Given Thon Maker grew up in Australia, and has made it clear he will represent Australia in FIBA; I'd say I'm more invested in him than any of you.

Years ago, seeing clips of a 7' high-schooler crossing over players, and draining threes blew my mind. My hopes were sky high.

I just don't think he has developed his skills enough for the NBA. I think whoever drafts him, will need to be very patient.

Prove me wrong Thon. Please prove me wrong!

I wonder if his brother Matur will declare next year?

Zubac is leaning towards staying IN this draft.

He's a lotto talent that you can get in the mid-first. My 1a/1b favorite target with Ulis.

Along with Maker the Blazers interviewed Prince and Demetrius Jackson.

I like it. Prince will end up being one of the best 3 and D SFs in the league. Mark my words.

Prince will be tough to get as he is projected to go in the late teens/early 20's of the 1st round.

There isn't a center in this draft with his size. Zubac is a widebody at 7'1"-7'2" - and skilled.

He should be a top 10 pick. Solid All-Around 3 and D guys like him have a history of being drafted too low:
K. Leonard(15th)
J. Butler(30th)
K. Middleton(2ndRnd)
D. Green(2ndRnd)
J. Crowder(2ndRnd)
W. Matthews(Undrafted)

All those guys should've went top 10 in their drafts. At the time it would've looked crazy to say that for all of them except Leonard, but he should've went #1 overall... Prince will be the next name on that list.

Prince would be good insurance insurance in case we let Harkless go for cap reasons. Him and Crabbe could handle the 40min per game available to backup wings.

Prince also compares well to Harmless

Prince: 220 lbs, 8'6 Stand. Reach, 36' vert
Harkless: 207lbs,8'6.5 Stand.Reach, 37'vert

He reminds a young Garrnett when he came out of high school.

Garnett was way more polished than Maker at the same point in their lives. Maker's athletic and has a great motor, but he's as raw as the century is long.

Exactly. In my mind he is the kind of guy you let someone else draft but keep a close eye on. Let some team waste a couple years on development and then give up on him. If the monitoring of him shows growth, that's when you sweep in. It's the long con. That's kind of how Olshey got Harkless.

Interesting article: "What did we learn at the Combine?"

“From what I can tell, there are 30 potential NBA rotation players sitting there in the 15-45 range,” one general manager told The Vertical in Chicago. “What this class lacks in star power it more than makes up for with depth.”
The pool of high-level basketball talent has been getting deeper and deeper for years now, not just in the United States but also internationally. Over a quarter of the players currently projected to be drafted are international prospects. A shortage of roster spots in the NBA may cause some of that talent to overflow and spill over next year into the NBA Development League. There will be many good players going undrafted as well, some of whom will end up making the NBA (60 undrafted players are currently on NBA rosters).

After reviewing Zubac's medical history teams are cooling their interest.

Only 19 and apparently has a history of knee and foot issues. That's a major red-flag when you consider just how huge he is.

Sabonis may have a promise according to Ford - the reason why he skipped the combine. My guess would be Boston.

Case in fucking point. Neil does not, and cannot dismiss this draft just because he has no picks.
Exactly. I can't believe anyone believes that Olshey and his staff would not scout the draft and work on contingencies just because they don't have a first round pick. If anything they might work harder to determine what, if any, moves they might make concerning the draft, on any number of levels, from trading into the draft, to buying into the draft, to facilitating other team's draft and player acquisition aspirations, to relieving other teams of unneeded picks, the list goes on. It's called doing his job.

But it was already proven to be true that he was scouting and interviewing players in this draft long before this tweet. Not sure why this is even a question?

More like a no-duh he is when people say he better be.

Paul Allen loves the draft. We will get a pick most likely. Now getting lots of picks? That is a bit wishful thinking.

Late second rounders/undrafted prospects..

This guy is a low ceiling prospect but is a guy that can contribute right away.

He fills up the statsheet: 15 ppg | 8 rpg | 7 apg -- but he can't shoot from three. Outside being 24 years old this is his biggest knock.
