Wrong. Lucas Nogueria, from Brazil. 7'2 (I believe) Center from Brazil. Had a really solid game against us last year that I watched.

Doesn't mean he's Rudy Gobert....

Except it was his best game of the season, and in garbage time, and I said "solid", not "killed". No wonder you like though. That was probably one of the few NBA games you watched.

We don't have enough spots to sign every scrub who has one solid game out of 82.

Man. You were almost here. Then you went and shot off like a rocket into outspace again.

That baskeball knowledge you have blows me away.

Spending the mle on anyone less than a serious impact player is not worth the financial impact in the long run.
There are no serious impact players for this team that could be had for 5.3 mill now and many more millions down the road. Hence, he didnt use it.
I think we should caution this a bit, there may be an impact player for 5.3 mil or less that we can get, but I also think it would make more sense to not use it right now.
For instance the guy that comes to mind is Gerald Green last year for the rockets, came in and played good minutes for them. He was signed for like 2.3m I believe.

I’m sure if we looked we could find quite a few guys who played solid minutes for less than the MLE.

I think it’s about finding the right fit, whether it be, just fits with the scheme or fills a niche role they lack.

Those guys are looking to sign with a team to get a ring.

Not necessarily, I guess to me it’s part of Neil’s job to find those type of guys that could help the team and bring them in. There are definitely ring chasers but, ya never know.
Ed Davis was / is a good role player he signed with Brooklyn for 4.4m. This is me putting the knife in, twisting it and looking down to realize I did it to myself...

Huh? We already used up most of the exception and the part that is left is basically a minimum contract. We can still sign guys to minimum deals but we could do that at any time. The issue now is we have 15 guaranteed players on the roster so signing someone else means we have to cut a player who has guaranteed money (once again assuming no trades).

Oh I realize we’ve used that money already. My comment was just the possibility of finding someone for 5.3 or less that can be a valuable piece is possible. I understand (not as well as you and Bones lol) that we already used that money or at least part of it on Stauskus andCurry). Sorry if that wasn’t clear.

Just to add a little more (definitely not aimed at TBF or any particular poster):
There is quite a difference between Acting like you have basketball knowledge, and actually having knowledge.
There is quite a difference between Acting like you know about the cap, and actually knowing about the cap.

This is part of what sucks about this place - some just want to beat a drum over and over again in hopes everyone will acknowledge how awesome they are. Why can't we just agree to disagree when necessary?

OTOH, there are some seriously great things about s2 that we need to be reminded of in the literal dog days of summer:
We have posters who have great cap knowledge.
We have posters who have great stats knowledge.
We have posters who have great insights.
We have posters who spend a lot of time and energy looking stuff up and doing other stuff.
We have posters who have a lot of "personality".
.....

I know a little about the cap and stats, but some here know the ins and outs, and I happily defer to their expertise. Certain posters amaze me in a good way :) I think @BonesJones made up 120 trades in a 6-week span, wow! I could do long and inciteful @BrianFromWA and @Boob-No-More type posts (and I occasionally do!), but they take me hours and these guys whip this stuff up in minutes! @HCP and @KingSpeed give the boards some much needed "flavor" (though HCP needs to stop with the Laker crap).

Anyway, this place sucks sometimes, but I respect a lot of the posters and am happy to be here. I hope others feel the same.
Why can’t I see this post?

not really a fair assessment in my view...he did mention the TPE and said they couldn't find a team to take it on...backing it up by stating that very few moves were made period regarding players in that range...I thought the interview was very good. I know you don't like Olshey but what lack of reality is there? I didn't see any. He clearly said we were outbid for 5 players targeted and teams retained their assets. What statements were flat out lies? How would you know this as well Tpup? I don't care personally if Olshey is an asshole but beyond that, I do respect his knowledge of the job. I thought it was an honest interview and very clear. What is a state run media interview? Does the Blazer media have to be contentious just because many forum members view the FO in that light?

  • That was in reference to Brooke's questions (softball in nature) It was the line right after referring to her. Perhaps not clear enough but hopefully that helps. Neil brought it up in passing to defend his lack of doing anything but not one word from her or any push back.
  • You "know" I don't like Olshey"? Interesting. Can I borrow you for other mind reading things? :twothumbs: I've actually been complimentary of some of his dumpster diving and think he is a solid evaluator of Draft talent. I do think he is very poor at FA'cy and trades.
  • He completely mis-evaluated the market for his '5 targeted players' whether he 'targeted' them or not.
  • As for the "lies", he kept saying things that were completely untrue and there were many examples. One of the local talk shows went through his interview question by question and then pointed out numerous examples just off the tops of there heads that made his statement completely false. So to be fair, perhaps it wasn't a lie but then it would be complete ignorance or incompetence.
  • I've been told it was very likely that Brooke didn't ask for that interview but rather Neil arranged for her to do it. As she is an employee of the Blazers, it is now a total in-house arrangement and those often come with pre-arranged questions an topics that are off limit along with no tough questions or follow ups allowed. I've worked enough with media and have enough clients in that profession to have a solid idea.

I don't see softball questions...I thought it was a good interview...no, I don't read minds Tpup but I've read hundreds of you posts and listened to you and Dustin on your podcasts....don't think I've missed one..I agree with a lot of stuff you post but in the case of Blazer politics and "insider" info about set up interviews...that's the last thing I'd think about listening to an interview ...when answers are pretty clear at least to me, I think an interview goes smoothly..if it's scripted, it still contains answers that make sense to me. and yes...I never got the impression you were an Olshey fan...most fans think he's drafted well. Nothin' personal....I always enjoy reading your posts whether I agree with everything or not. I like the stability I see in the front office this era.

I would prefer less stability in the results....which is NBA purgatory. One man's stability is another man being stuck in mediocrity in this case.

I respect your opinion but really disagree about what mediocrity and NBA purgatory mean....5 years straight in the playoffs without a superstar roster is pretty far above the curve for me....but the roster we have now hasn't played a game yet...I'm looking forward to the season and think when playing well...we can beat any team in the league....nothing is more fun than beating a big market superstar team...Steve Kerr and Greg Popovich think we're a pretty good team...that's high praise. Last year's starters are going to get pushed to produce with our better bench this season...maybe our bench can keep a lead for once.

Apparently we do. Since more than half of the teams in the NBA make the Playoffs, that doesn't seem like a very high bar. So a bunch of teams make the Playoffs that are no where near even giving a contender a decent series. That to me is mediocrity.

Of all the teams to make the Playoffs in the last 2 years, the list is VERY short of teams that that have the same amount of wins as Portland. To me making the Playoffs just isn't that much of an accomplishment when more teams are in than out.

@TBpup stalker question what’s the podcast you do? I’d love to listen to it. I haven’t had a good nba podcast to listen too in a while.

I think the last couple years getting smacked around by GS was like, “well everyone gets destroyed by GS”, this year seeing it on repeat against a team that on paper has about the same talent level was a bit of a slap in the face to fans like me. It was that reality check. I know there were injuries, Dame wasn’t all the way back from the ankle, he had the baby and his brother got shot right before the playoffs. I know the “reasons”, but it still doesn’t sit well with me.

I've been a guest on a number of different podcasts but never had my own show....no time when I'm handling all of my clients retirement investments. Would like to do one someday but a bit different than most of the pods that are out there. Have discussed a format briefly but that is about the extent of it so far.

Appreciate the feedback.
