I hate to say I told you so, buuuuut....

I told you so.

I have always maintained that we would not be a player at this season's trade deadline. I believe it has always been Neil's plan to make moves at next season's trade deadline or after next season.

That's certainly the song he will sing to the Vulcans if the Blazers lose in the first round again. Just not sure that they're going to be inclined to accept that line of argument.

Alright, I have several thoughts and questions that I think deserve legitimate answers:

1) Why would we be players in the buyout market? The rotation is already all convoluted as it is adding Hood without subtracting any one who plays.

2) If we weren't going to attempt to cut tax this year, why not use that extra roster spot and the TPE to take on players for cash and/or 2nd round picks from all the teams looking to dump contracts like several today? We could've potentially recouped one of the picks from the Hood trade.

3) For those that say we didn't have the expiring deals to make a trade work, this is why I wanted to use the Crabbe TPE this summer. For example, lets just say we did the same trade the 76ers did and got Wilson Chandler plus a 2nd rounder from Denver. That pick could've been used on Hood saving us from depleting yet another future 2nd. The most important part though is then you combine Chandler with Aminu today and all of a sudden we have $20 million in expiring contracts to send out and have the means to basically get anyone who was traded in the last two days. Sure, the tax would be bad but these are the kind of moves you have to make to win in a small market. Besides, Houston proved today that you can get around the tax if it becomes an issue or at the very least minimize the payout.

Fuck.

Stupid plan.

At next years trade deadline we will have three expirings worth a combined $37 million...that could net us a star player.

But would you miss the bounce passes to a defender's feet?

Last month in January he averaged 4 assists and 1 turnover per game. Yes I am ready to move him, but he is not as horrible as many suggest.

Welcome on board all of you that didn't think Neil Olshey was borderline deficient this morning. Now it's official official.

Raptors, Bucks and Sixers all top 3 teams out East all made a move and Neil choked again. So frustrating.

It is interest

And what will the excuse be 12 months from now?

"look, we tried to move our expiring contracts but it takes two to trade and teams just weren't giving enough back to make a trade fungible. Or something. But we'll have a chance to reset our roster this summer; we'll have substantial cap-space and Chandler Parsons will be a free agent"

Did I say this? I simply said he was better than Jokic and he is. Jokic plays zero defense.

Also, Denver is a much better team than NO.
No, YOU didn't say that. But that's what my post was in response to. AD is a very talented player, but he's no Top 5 player. Again - you didn't say that, but that's what I was responding to.

And IS Denver a much better team than NOP? I mean, they are - it's right there in the standings. But is it because of the players surrounding Jokic vs those surrounding Davis? Hard to say. DEN's roster looks incredibly mediocre to me.

Murray or Jrue? Jrue all day.
Ghost of Millsap or Randle/Mirotic? I take Randle/Mirotic.
Plumlee or the other of Randle/Mirotic? Again, I take Randle/Mirotic.
Harris? Barton? Moore? Payton? Who cares?

DEN might be deeper with average players. But NOP has more talent up top. And yet they're scraping near the bottom of the standings.

Honestly, DEN reminds me of those Blazers teams with Roy and Outlaw. We won a lot of games, but ain't no team with Travis Outlaw in the rotation actually gonna do anything.

I hate PER so I left this for the end. NOP has 6 guys with PER > 17. DEN has 3. We have 2.

I'm not arguing with you, dviss - just typing out my thoughts as to why Davis isn't a Top 5 player.

Fair enough.

I'd still take AD over him 10/10.

Lots of big moves today. The east was busy getting better. And guess what none of it matters cuz nobody beating Golden State in June. So congrats all. Teams should be unloading right now and gearing up for 2022 and beyond. Dallas is the team doing things right. Everyone else is chasing something they aren’t gonna get. Sorry Philly and Toronto. But Luka and a healthy Porzingis And cap room? Yes please.
