I know I think every Cronin presser is terrible, but my goodness this Cronin presser is horrible.

What would've made you think it was a home run press conference to where you had no complaints afterwards?I know I think every Cronin presser is terrible, but my goodness this Cronin presser is horrible.
Not contradicting himself multiple times and not admitting he wanted to keep Brogdon despite him having a ton of interest (according to Chauncey). What would've made you think it was a home run press conference to where you had no complaints afterwards?

From Sean Highkin:Did we know 100% he wanted to keep him though? Did I miss quotes of him saying he was never going to be traded and we wanted to keep him? Serious question, not snark.
Joe Cronin: "We don't want to take any more steps back. We were looking more to acquire a guy than get off of a guy. But at the same time, I don't want to speed it up too much. I want to give these guys a chance to grow and develop."
Where is the contradiction? From Sean Highkin:
I'm sure there's a way to interpret this differently, and that's probably why it was worded as such.
Looking more like a few more years of losing. Or do we just call it tanking to make ourselves feel better?
You nailed in BeMac!I'll be damned...Looks like the team feels the same way I do. This is a good team that just needs a little time to bake and a little luck with injuries—way to go Joe Cronin.
I think many of us realized the rebuild path after Dame was going to be a long and likely painful one.Looking more like a few more years of losing. Or do we just call it tanking to make ourselves feel better?
Where is the contradiction?
Isn't he just saying he doesn't want to keep getting worse but he also isn't trying to make a move that is only good in regards to getting better in the short-term?
Seems like a reasonable plan, but as I've said before: It's easy to get worse, it's much harder to become good again. He's done the easy part. I think this is why both you and I were skeptical of trading Dame.
Unfortunately they're not embracing the pain enough.I think many of us realized the rebuild path after Dame was going to be a long and likely painful one.
So when do we hand Scoot the keys to the bus? We didn’t just trade our beloved franchise guy to draft Scoot #3 to have him come off the bench. You would think his development would be quicker being that he was said to be NBA ready coming out of the draft. On the bright side: I think Brogdon is helping Scoot's development, by allowing him to come off the bench.
It's easiest to do absolutely nothing. Getting worse requires a plan to use that move to get better. One step back for two steps forward is tougher than sitting on the ground while people claim you can't walk.
Knicks were not willing to give up a first...so you’d be happy with a deal like Fournier and a shitty 1st for brogdon?
Glad you’re not the GM
What, like Dame forcing Joe to trade him? Or Jody Allen forcing Joe under the tax at the 2022 deadline? Or Dame securing Cronin the Grant trade? Or drafting players? You aren't implying Cronin has done nothing are you? He's made "bigger" moves in his first 2 years than we made for the previous 8 years combined. Or are you saying because he didn't want to get even worse at this deadline, that he failed?

He did nothing but sell in the last three transactional periods (trade deadline, off-season, trade deadline) and the last two he didn't sign/trade for a single meaningful piece whatsoever to help a direction, whether that's trying to win or rebuild.
In a rebuild, getting worse at thee deadline by trading Brogdon for a pick/young player is beneficial to the rebuild. He's a 31-year old guard and we have three young guards. They should be stockpiling assets for the future so that we can be in the market for a star (or have enough chances to draft one) so that we don't make the same mistake with Scoot/Sharpe/Ant that we made with Dame (i.e. being stuck in the middle and being unable to get to contention).
I went into this trade deadline expecting nothing which I’m perfectly fine with. Would I have liked to get a good young player for Brogdon yes but guessing teams are holding onto those type of players.
little surprised some contenders wouldn’t have mortgaged the future for win now considering there’s no elite team.
True, Joe appears to not be proactive and doesn't seem to have a plan. Maybe the owner (or Bert more likely) said no but that's why we need a full shakeup from the top down. This is not a well-ran organization. Cronin has had too many excuses of "there's nothing he could do nobody wanted his really good asset" where it comes out or appears that he wanted to actually keep said asset in the first place.A lot of the things you listed were in fact, bigger moves than what was done the previous 8 years to his arrival. If you want to put the moves GM's are forced to make (or not make) on other players and the owner, that is something I'd listen to. In that case, maybe the owner said no to trading Brogdon?
Scoot was supposed to be NBA ready coming out of the draft, So you would think his development should have been able to move along a bit quicker.

How many players traded were as good as Brogdon though? Why are we using Monte Morris fetching a 2nd and trying to compare that to Brogdon? There wasn't one trade today including a 1st round pick/young player where I could've reasonably seen Portland including Brogdon instead. Brogdon for Dallas' 2028 1st and Grant Williams was the closest, but I can't imagine that exciting many folks around here.
I agree with most of this. His play recently suggests to me he's ready for a bump in his role. He's not going to be consistency and will struggle but you can learn from failure. Just as long as he can mentally handle and build upon his performances as a starter, he should start. That wasn't the case earlier in the season, but I think it's the case now.I agree, there was a mountain of Scoot hype before the draft. The result is many fans are disappointed in his slow development.
I am not disappointed in Scoots slow development. Because, I did not believe the hype that he was NBA ready. Neither his stats, nor eye test convienced me he was ready for the NBA.
I am not saying Scoot is a bust, just that he needs more time to develop his skills. BTW, I hated when the NBA lowered the draft age.
