Perhaps Brogden wasn't traded for what was being offered BECAUSE the Blazers DO have a direction and a vision of what they are trying to build?
That's what I'm hoping. Brogdon is a positive asset, whether it be on the court or in a trade. They've decided for the next 6-12 months it will be in the locker room and for the team.

Now we sit back and hope GS tumbles down the stretch. Then we'll be crowned summer league champs and all will be right at last.

Is it guaranteed we will have Simon’s?
you are making assumptions

have we had a healthy roster at all this year? Could be the same next year?
Let's say they keep all four guards and do next to nothing this offseason.

Is that not a problem to you? I don't see them trading Sharpe, Scoot or Simons. Of course they could. But going into next season with four guards all deserving the minutes they do is a problem.

You think the Blazers need a below average defender at PF to pair next to Ayton, Ant, and Scoot? I don't.

You would've wanted to give up a 1st, and two of our rotation players (Thybulle and Walker) for him? Not me.
PJ is not a below average defender.

I really want to see the Cronin ass kissers make an excuse for this cause that will be as entertaining as when Cronin says later / tonight ... there were just no deals to be had etc etc ( BS BS BS )
Maybe he is the new Ujiri?

and, expiring contracts don't have as much value as the imaginary value they used to have....RLEC for the imaginary win!!....bake that fucking cake!
Brogdon's value will be in that he's a good player though. Some team will want him to aid their playoff push. Like how the Blazers traded for Arron Afflallo.

I’m pretty sure Joe holds Brodgon as more valuable than a couple seconds or a middle first.
He like be wrong but I think he is making that value assessment based on his return for Dame and Dames value.
That was my thought. That if he traded hm for a late first, then people might be able to total up the final return for Lillard and it might not look so good....

Their direction is determined by their actions that all of us can see.
That's how it works in an idealistic situation where all information is known. If you asked this board what direction the team is trying to go in, you would get different answers, despite the same actions being taken. People see what they want to see. Most of us think we're being realistic/fair in our interpretation, but some clearly see things through an optimistic lense, some in a highly critical/negative lense, and everything in-between.

Not as big an issue as it is for some. I don’t see this team contending next year either so it’s a problem we can deal with next year in potentially a larger trade.
But here is the thing. Scoot and Shaw are still largely unproven. They may not turn into what the franchise hopes. To trade others away is putting all your eggs in one basket wheee you can’t tell if that basket has holes and how large. I see no issue not making big moves until a foundation to build around is solidified. Shuffling deck chairs does nothing unless you know a few of them have plush cushions.

If the only options are, taking a bad deal, or no deal. I am in the no deal camp all day long.

And I do not agree the Blazers lack a direction or plan. The plan and young players are taking longer to develop than most would like. The NBA is not a video game where instant results are the norm.

So now you're preemptively getting upset about something that may or may not happen? Seems like a great use of your time.

Are any of these waived players worth putting in a claim? Hayes is a tall guard who looks to have solid court vision but is limited offensively. Are the offensive deficiencies a product of the system or the player?

You think PJ Washington is an above average defender?

He is athletic.
Yes. He switches well onto the perimeter, gets through screens, is an okay secondary rim protector.

It’s obvious to me who the odd man out is.

Ive seen this story many times before.

And if the market wasn't good enough now, I dont see it being any better this offseason, and the Blazers seemed to want to keep him, so I don't think it's all that preemptive.

Breathe, Torey. Breathe.

First, that hasn't happened yet. Second, even if that happens, we don't know how they'd balance it out, if Shaedon might play some 3 in a small lineup or what. Third, Shaedon's not part of the equation at the current time.

I tend to see Washington's skills closer to Steve Clifford and Hollinger.

I think Luka will make him better offensively and maybe his poor defense was a product of him being with a team that wasn't interested in winning and therefore he wasn't interested in giving it his all. But even if that were the case, the situation in Portland would've been more similar to Charlotte than to Dallas.

I'm not trying to make it sound like he's garbage, but I wouldn't have wanted to give up 2 rotation players and a 1st round pick for him. Thybulle and a couple 2nds, maybe.

Getting worked up about things that haven't and very well may never happen is bad for my blood pressure!

Decent article that makes a lot of since. Dont give me shit either! lol
Why the Trail Blazers Won’t Prioritize Picks at the NBA Trade Deadline

Someone I know pretty well posted something like this a couple of days ago. Once you get to a certain point, having a glut of draft picks depreciates their value because the ones coming along later have to beat out the ones that already are there trying to prove they can be part of a winning rotation. You don't have enough roster spots and even fewer opportunities for meaningful playing time.

The value in the picks then just becomes as trade chips, so you're relying on a partner that's willing to give you something vital for them.

On top of that, if you've drafted well, at least some of those draft picks are going to drop further and further down the round, which diminishes their value both to you and to potential trade partners.
