Can we just trade CJ for Bogdanovic?

Is Brown that much of an upgrade if we could re-sign Powell? I would rather upgrade at a bigger position.

correct! Just Sign Powell and then trade Nurk, CJ and DJJ and a nice pick to Indy for Turner and Sabonis

Key rotation players:

Dame / Ant
Powell / find a solid vet
RoCo / Little
Turner / Collins / Melo
Sabonis / Kanter

Yeah I’m sure Indy would do that if you tied Kp in a room with a gun to his head.

nurk would be one of the bigger bodies in the East. CJ would thrive and DJJ is a dump on our part. Throw in a decent pick and you’d be able to make this deal. Benefits Portland and Indy. And with the Orlando coaching spot open, Stotts will take his talents to Florida...making this trade more realistic than if Stotts were to be hired by Indy - I don’t think Nurk likes Stotts

First of all there is no decent pick as we are always outside lottery. They have Brogdon, LeVert and Warren that need ball in their hands so no place for CJ. And why would they trade Sabonis? Who cares if Nurk has bigger body, Domantas is better at everything.

Knicks get their shot creator to go next to Randle. The Raptors get a bunch of young talent and picks for Siakam.

Why would NY want CJ over Siakam? Honestly, I think they're both kind of a wash but they fill different needs. I don't think Siakam makes sense next to Randle. They need a guy who can create his own shot. I think CJ would flourish in NY. Plus it doesn't make sense for us to trade CJ to the Raptors because he's not young and we just sent them GTJ.

how did Indy do in the playoffs?

Yeah i m pretty sure if they get CJ and Nurk they ll be great as they are such difference makers. Maybe we can get LaVine for CJ as well since Bulls didn't qualify or we give up Nurk for Towns. CJ for Zion who says no?

CJ is better than both Brogdon and Caris Levert. Check the stats.

I know it’s popular to hate CJ, but he’s better than both of those two.

Even if he is it's not by much and he doesn't fit with those guys.

Sabonis is better than Nurk+CJ combined so they would never trade him+Turner for something that won't make them better.

Sorry, I'm not keeping track of whos ideas these are, I was responding to someone else.

I think I said I would trade CJ for Brown straight up, did I not? Throw DJJ in, great with me! RoCo and a 1st seems like a lot, but maybe CJ, DJJ, and RoCo just aren't as good as we have been saying?
Celtics laugh us off the phone if we offer CJ and DJJ for Brown.

well, I’m just glad we have an expert analyst here to guide us through - at least we agree that CJ and Nurk are worthless

maybe, but:

doesn't look like any distinct advantage for CJ, especially if you give a notable edge to Brogdon on defense. Brogdon is also a better passer and a better rebounder. And, he's 6'5

I think you'd have to trade CJ for Tobias Harris straight up at this point. If you can get a pick back (#28?), you lump it into a package with some combination of our Future 1sts, RoCo, DJJ, Ant, Nas, and Elleby and see if you can get a star forward back (Siakam?)

PHI Gets: C.J. McCollum
POR Gets: Tobias Harris, Pick #28

TOR Gets: Aaron Nesmith, Nassir Little, Pick #28, 2022 BOS 1st, 2022 POR 1st, 2025 POR 1st, ~$27M TPE
BOS Gets: Robert Covington, Derrick Jones Jr, C.J. Elleby
POR Gets: Pascal Siakam

Trade two Future 2nds for Pick #35
Draft Joel Ayayi

Resign Norman Powell and Zach Collins

Sign Nic Batum to Tax-Payer MLE

Sign Boban Marjanovic, Ish Smith, Rondae Hollis-Jefferson to minimum contracts.

Lillard (36) / Simons (12) / Smith
Powell (33) / Simons (15) / Ayayi
Harris (22) / Batum (26) / F.A.
Siakam (35) / Harris (13) / RHJ
Nurkic (28) / Collins (20) / Boban

I think we need to give something else also, either to NY or Toronto; NY giving up a lot for CJ.

I think Harris has more value than CJ. At worst their neutral.
Yeah, he had a great year. Before this season, I think we get more pieces or a pick to sweeten the deal but now we'd be lucky if we weren't the ones sweetening the trade with a pick. I would do it though. I'd trade CJ for Tobias Harris. Harris can get his own but takes open looks and driving lanes when they are given to him and is a decent defender especially since we'd likely give him the easier of the two forwards when he was playing next to RoCo.

The problem might be that both him and the Sixers did too well this season and now that Embiid is out and if that's what costs them their current series, they really might want to run it back.

New York was rumored to be interested in CJ. I think this trade actually is about right. I tend to think the Knicks would give up Toppin or Quickley and both of their first rounders but I don't know how they value all of those pieces but three out of those four pieces (Toppin, Quickley, the 19th pick and the 21st pick) seems like something they would do. Also we are giving up a future first in this deal to Toronto, not just CJ.

That first would need to be from 2023 because we aren't using our first in this years draft so we can't trade our 2022 pick unless we trade it after it's made.

I tend to agree with you.. CJ and DJJ aren't that good... kind of what I've been saying for a while when making the case this roster wasn't as talented as others were making it out to be.

We can trade our 2022 pick after the draft is over. I’d imagine that is someone everyone is aware of and easily negotiated into a deal.

It's not that they aren't that good, it's that Jaylen Brown is extremely good and young. There's different degrees of good.

We cannot trade that pick because we have to use it. We can trade the rights to it after we use it but you are not allowed to trade away a first rounder if you haven't used one the season before. That's why until we knew that our pick was going to the Rockets we couldn't trade any of our picks because we didn't know which pick it would be mandatory for us to use. There are ways to circumvent this but that would mean acquiring another 2022 first rounder.

I'd say yes, Harris has more value. Especially after the 6 games CJ played in the Denver series. A player's value will tank quite a bit when he's outplayed by Monte Morris and Austin Rivers

on the other hand, Harris will be making 5M more a year than CJ. Neither player is really worth what they are paid

a bit of trivia: Harris was selected with the 19th pick in the 2011 draft. That was the Blazer pick they sent to the Bobcats for Gerald Wallace....who was traded for Lillard, essentially

Now let’s look at their most recent seasons, since that’s most relevant.

https://stathead.com/tiny/Kd8nX

PER: +2.9 (CJ)
Better shooter: CJ
Less turnovers (on higher usage): CJ
Assists: Brogdon
Rebounds: Brogdon
Steals: McCollum
Blocks: McCollum
Win Shares: McCollum
OBPM: McCollum
DBPM: Brogdon, literally by .1 percentage point. One is a -1.4 and the other is -1.5.

So that “distinct” defensive edge doesn’t equate statistically.

LaVert for good measure: https://stathead.com/tiny/et34Q

and I’d expect Malcolm Brogdon, point guard, to be a better passer than McCollum, although apparently that comes with more turnovers (bad passes?) so not sure what to do about that.

So, I mean, yeah CJ is a better player. And it’s reflected in the stats. And that was my original hypothesis. Not that he is a superstar; that he is just better than those other two.

Which he is.

Embiid is playing.
