I think in that scenario the team aims to stay under the tax. Why go just a couple million over and set a repeater clock?

Limit Nurk to 14 mil and only use tax MLE. There will probably be a few ways to do it.
Because we want to be a playoff team! And we have a guy on a supermax! Pay the fucking tax if you want to win.

I wonder if we trade Hart. I love his game, but he's going to get squeezed for PT. And his 13 mil could be better spent on different positions (MLE + BAE)
Have you seen the free agents available for the MLE BAE? They are not better spent options than Hart. Playing time will be fine, Sharpe was 18 last month he's not ready.

I guess if the deal was Hart + Bledsoe + Sharpe for OG that's actually 23M going out and 17M coming in.

Ok rewatched the PC from yesterday:

"Depending on how high our team salary gets, we might lose access to a few of those mechanisms where the MLE/BAE could convert to a tax-payer level. So depending on how high we take it, we might lose some of those tools."

This quote makes it seem like they're more concerned with the machinations involved in the build rather than a specific mandate by Jody to not pay the tax. I'm OK with that. If this is the case, the best options might be to trade Bledsoe and/or Hart if we want talent.

~20 min mark.

I wonder what Hart is worth on the open market. Somewhere around 15-20M is my guess. They are gonna have to pay him that the year after. If you can turn Hart+Nas into a legit starting SF, you do that.

It smells like a 3-1 or 4-1 player trade. Vet for potential.
problem is our guys making 1-5 mil are mostly scrubs or heavily undervalued youngins who other teams won't care for. Like in reality, what kinda trade value do Watford/Keon have?

Ya you would have to trade Hart + our best young guy (Nas) if you want anything of significance. Any value Bledsoe had went out the door given our lack of picks to attach to him.

That Thybulle rumor is definitely intriguing. I would take him into our Roco TPE for sure. He can serve as a temporary stopgap at starting SF and add to our wing depth without costing an arm and a leg.

I don't know how much value Hart+Nas have though. The reason they don't have as much value is the same reason we'd be looking to move them, both are expiring.

Would Charlotte S&T Bridges for Hart+Nas+Bledsoe? We can probably get Harrison Barnes but he's not worth either...

Honestly this team still has the same problem it had during the CJ/Dame years.....over half the cap tied to defensively challenged scoring guards. If our defense is still bad for the first half next year I feel like you have to make a decision between one of them.

i'd rather just keep everyone and make Jody pay the tax like she should for a playoff team. Hell, we won't be a repeater this year, so it's not THAT cost-prohibitive.

GS and BK had like 300 million dollar payrolls when you add the salaries and tax. If we have an owner crying about paying 10 mil in tax, they're in the wrong business, and Dame should ask out.

I agree and I kinda don't want to move any young talent (Hart included) until after this season. I really want to see what we have with a lot of these guys, and last year was NOT a good barometer.

Hart is a UFA after this season.

I'd totally give the full MLE to Otto Porter Jr.

Stopgap starter at either SF or PF.

Can that Detroit deal be expanded to this?

Pistons got #13 in return.

We would get our backup C without looking for him in FA. And we'd still retain our TPE.

Don't think Ingles will be signing here. He was a throwin to make a trade work. Never played here. Having his bird rights is irrelevant because no one would want to pay him that much. Too old to be a plus defender. We can do better on the free agent market.

Hart would be a good edition to a contending team, which is what those idiots think we may be……SO WHY TRADE HIM?

I didn't get that impression from Joe last night. He alluded to the fact that we needed more. But then again the feed made it tough to hear every word he said, so maybe he said........ we don't need more.

Also, why the hell would Detroit eat Bledsoe's contract? The reason they did the Grant deal was so they didn't have to take salary back.

I can't believe we have ONE MORE SEASON AFTER THIS with Nicholson's 3M on the books. Jesus christ.

Unfortunately it looks like we also have a deceased player on the payroll. When i worked up a trade for Durant, they had him listed on the payroll next season as well.

I think Detroit would need something else kicked to them to take on Bledsoe. But also, Bledsoe isn't enough outgoing salary for us to keep our tpe.

Fanspo is broken. We can't send 19M and receive 30M back.
ya no kidding, we need a better trade machine.

maybe the Grant deal isn't official just because he hasn't taken his physical yet cuz he's in Paris.

I believe OKC still has cap space left for this season. If we wanted to help NY clear more space, we could guarantee Bledsoe for around 14.7, send him to OKC. NY sends a pick to OKC and a pick to us, and they send us Burks and Noel. We get tradeable contracts, a backupb3/2, a backup 5, and a future asset. NY clears over 19 million immediately. Okc gains an asset for taking on salary.

He said it, but he’s putting a roster together that is going to be good enough not to be good enough. And not good enough not to be bad enough
