Game Thread 2023-24 Game #2 - BLAZERS VS MAGIC - OCTOBER 27, 2023 - FRIDAY - 7:00 PM PST - ROOT

Welcome to our community

Be a part of something great, join today!

Who else can you confidently say we can beat other than hopefully the Pistons and Wizards? We are pretty close to that bad unless Scoot picks it up here soon
Could have beaten Orlando tonight...

Are we watching the same team?

Yes, the 9 and 73 76ers had no one on that team that *maybe* 3 players on it that had passable NBA careers after that season. Most of their roster was out of the league a year or 2 later.

That roster was historically bad.

There are 3 players on the team alone that could average 20 ppg this season and beyond.

There was no one on that 76ers team, iirc, that went on to average 20 ppg for any season subsequently.

I'm also really disappointed in Thybulle too, he has been such a non-factor. Wouldn't be surprised if Sharpe starts over him once Ant is back (also wouldn't be surprised if Sharpe doesn't because then our bench scoring is basically Brogdon).

Thybulle is one of those guys that looks good on a good team but looks basic on a a bad team.

Which should make him valuable to a contender once he is eligible to be traded.

We will probably be saying that a lot this year against teams that are not playoff bound. Definitely need to find our identity.

We might just win 12 games this year
I got Blazers winning ~22 by trade deadline. Ayton will find a groove. Scoot & Sharpe will combine superpowers eventually. Brogdon and Williams are talented bench players. Grant is due to hit a bunch of shots soon. And hopefully Simons will be back in December.

during the All-Star break... Trade master Cronin will have 29 different cell phones with all the NBA logos charged up and ready to find draft picks.

Trade him. I honestly think Camara gives you more already.

Yes, the ever so shuffling deck of chairs that is the Blazers.

Trivia questions on who’s rights we once had 20 years from now

Well, that was better than last game. Not that that’s saying much.

My issue isn’t with the losses, it’s that there’s no discernible game plan, and hasn’t been for Chauncey’s tenure.

Unless taking turns iso-ing, and an occasional zone counts as a game plan.

If any of you can see the game plan, please educate me; preferably with video.

Well, yeah. Anyone who expected any different is just setting themselves up for disappointment.

Terrible shooting. Get the ball to Ayton please. He needs 20 attempts per game.

That was my impression as well, with an occasional two man game that was painfully obvious and predictable. Had heard that we were going to be passing the ball more but saw a lot of dribbling.

Orlando has a nice little team. Solid young players at every position. But it's a bit alarming that they were us about 3 years ago and they're only now getting decent.
(On the downside for them, I don't think they have a star star. Wagner and Banchero are low-level all stars at best.)

Useless factoid of the day.......I was stationed in Philadelphia for a couple months attending damage control school during the winter of 72/73. The Spectrum was right outside the front gates of the navy base, and we got discounted tickets to whatever entertainment was going on in the city. One night I wandered over to watch the Sixers play the Celtics (with Cowens, Havlicek, et al). It was an utter debacle for the Sixers. But at least I got to see Freddie Boyd (from OSU, the Sixer's first round pick that year) play......not that he had much of a career. But yeah, Philly was absolutely awful.......and the Celtics were just so dang good. I'd like to think this year's Blazers won't be quite as bad as those Sixers..........

Isn't it weird how the NBA will do that at times?
I mean, allegedly do that?

If anything, he's had at least 3 plays where he should've been called for a foul but they swallowed their whistles.

What changed?
This is just a hunch. Obviously I have no knowledge of what was actually said.
I watched Chauncey pull the lead official aside at the Time out. I think he was pleading a case that he needs to play the kid as well as talking about the foul discrepancy.
Just a hunch but yes I noticed the calls did change a bit.

Good close game, sharpe looked amazing.. it might be many many years for Scoot to be decent though I’m afraid. Defiantly far worse than I thought he would be. He can develop but they were wrong about him being nba ready.
People are going to respond to this sort of statement poorly. They will tell you "It's only been 2 games" "Relax". I know this because I said it after game #1.
Scoot is not a bust but I totally agree with you. He will be a work in progress for quite some time. It would help If he could shoot the ball better.

Jerami is a guy that looks good on a team where he's the third option and the first option is very high usage. The good thing is that teams already know this. Playing with a bunch of rookies and playing the wrong role with them won't tank these guys' value. Tisse will likely get us two seconds and Jerami will get us a protected first likely to convey because he'll be going to a contender.

tonight? They definitely don't look like they have a direction of a direction or rudder, but they looked better than they did against the Clippers.

But I guess looking like shit isn't significantly better than looking like crap.
So I posted this in the "Excuses" Thread.
It's pretty much what I'm seeing as well.

Even you must see that this team has no real grit and grind. It lacks a heart and soul leader. The will to win isn't there.
Even Chauncey seems to just make excuses and accept losing.
Personally I can accept they are young. I can accept they will not win much. I'm looking for a player to really start to lead and become the true face of the franchise again.
Maybe I got spoiled having Lillard on the team?

I think "Direction" or "Rudder" might be a better way to explain it.
Of course I agree with many of the responses my quote got. The team and season is very young. I'm not looking for a bunch of wins. I'm looking for the leader and IMO that starts with Chauncey. It certainly will not be Grant or it seems Ayton.

I've always been in the belief that it's not THAT you lost, it's HOW you lost.

And how they're losing now isn't good. It's acceptable due to the early early part of the season, but honestly, this is how they've lost games for 3+ years now. Stotts last 2 years were rudderless hero ball, and now they're just rudderless rat ball.
