Btw, does anyone else kinda feel like this team has the potential to be like the 99 team?

Totally scrappy, playing exciting ball, young and at times not realizing that they're not supposed to be able to play with poise?

NOT saying this team is going to be in the western conference finals like that team was (tho so help me god if the Spurs are....)...but that team was scrappy, got the crowd into it more than any team before them (outside of 90/92) and had no business being that good already.

Tho this team will still probably be around a 27-33 win team. But (even tho Memphis is not a good team right now) not having Simons and Scoot and they still win is a good sign.

Let’s reevaluate that “defense” in 18 games.

My point isn’t that we are so much better my point is we now have the players to be a much improved defensive team. Last year we struggled to cover the 3pt line and then when we did chase other teams off the 3pt line we didn’t have a bigs behind them to protect the paint.

this defense is more sustainable we have longer wings that are athletic, quick and bigs that are deterrents inside the paint.

We’re young so I expect lots of ups and downs. It takes effort and dedication to be a great defensive team hopefully being young it will be easier to get buy in. Helps having 3 vets that have played on good defensive teams

Wow. “Shae has to get way better” Matisse was doing a poor job.” He’s holding them accountable.

interesting that he’s trying to get Sharpe to be more aggressive. I was frustrated with some of the play calls where we kept going to Grant but maybe that was because Sharpe was passing too much when we needed him to be more aggressive. I’m sure with Sharpes personality and being 19 he doesn’t want to over step and often defers picking his spots to be aggressive.

I see more 89-90 than 99-00, but this is the first team in a decade I could imagine a miracle minute happening for, yeah

I watched that Bucks vs Knicks game and you will have a hard time convincing me that they are not taking these games seriously.

Sure, players may take it seriously because of the money implications.

We, as, fans, shouldn't. It's fucking dumb. lol.

@AldoTrapani is not that wrong imo. I also wish Shaedon would take 20+ shots a game instead of Grant. He would average 27+ points per game if he does that. Just be a bit more aggressive

Brogdon is sneakily a pretty good defender. I thought he was a negative but he’s definitely a slight positive.

he's been a bit better at defense than a "slight positive", although he has played on good defensive teams; that helps disguise defensive flaws. I might be forgetting someone, but I'd estimate he's the best back court defender the Blazers have had since Matthews. He uses his mass well

I don't really see that comp. That 99 team was filled with veteran players that knew their roles....although one role they didn't know, apparently, was not to leave Sean Elliott open in the corner

as for not having Scoot and Ant, I think that helped last night, at least in terms of getting the win. Scoot has been a pretty big negative so far. -11.8 points/100-possessions and a negative winshare are tanking numbers, not winning numbers. Ant would help the offense but hurt the defense

Yeah Memphis has vet guards who would have abused Scoot.

Let's let him work into it within the flow of the game like he has much of the time, He's playing could TEAM ball and I want to keep encouaging that, sometimes he should be more selfish but we already have Grant ball hogging and very often not making the extra pass when its there and then he forces things way too often IMO. Sha passes pretty well for a 20 yr old

If the players take it seriously then the league has accomplished their goal. The fans will get a better basketball game at the beginning of November for their money.
Not sure i can find a problem with that? Maybe not so "Dumb"?

Watching replay and highlights from this game (most especially) and the rest before, nothing stands out to me more than how Dames departure has opened up the opportunity for other players to get looks and time with the ball in their hands. Loving this young group. It’s different when you don’t have superstars. Sometimes that factor just complicates things. Don’t ever get me wrong on Dame. But even from the start at 0-3, that looks like the right move to give players like Shae more opportunity. Much like how CJ benefited from Wes being traded, the opportunity means a lot, and sometimes a lack of opportunity explains reduced production.
