Yeah I do think this is a major possibility. Not so much Scoot specifically - that the team was aiming to trade the pick for an above average starter to pair with Dame. That wasn't available, so they are now pivoting all the way to a rebuild and basically putting Dame into a position he feels forced to ask out.

I don't think Cronin ever lied as some claim; there are so many grey areas with these statements and conditional ones. They can say "we are trying" to build a contender around Dame when they will only offer the pick for way more value then its worth. They aren't lieing, but it doesn't mean they are being totally transparent or committing all the way to building with Dame. Just because you don't lie, doesn't mean you are telling the most accurate complete truth.
I actually think the initial plan was to trade the pick for an above average starter if it was 6 or 7 but once it got up to 3 they wanted an all star level player for it and when they couldn't get that, they wouldn't trade it for an above average starter because they see Scoot as being worth way more than that and they're probably right but it may cost them Dame. That being said if trading Dame is the best move for this franchise going forward the GM has to be willing to do that, as fans we can afford to be more emotional but I think GMs need to be shrewd.

LMAO, who the fuck is this guy:

Called Harden opting in and then getting traded a day ago.

Dropped the teams before Woj.

Some other shit:

Relevant and very recent:

what do they know that we don't know?

this could be pretty bid news in Portland
They definitely know that Cronin isn't going to take what they're offering. Is he not taking it because he has better offers on the table or is he not taking it because Dame is sticking around?

He called it 24 hours ago

The tweets were:

"Please make up your mind Dame"

"Stay tuned in a bit"

???? Something happening with Dame?

I think this Harden thing helps our case with Lillard.

Even though Harden, Kyrie, KD, Westbrook etc. have all had better chances at the title in the last few years, they also have a combined total of 0 titles. And they've each bounced around on 2-3 teams already.

I don't think Dame wants that to be his legacy. If he goes to Miami and doesn't win a title, he will regret leaving Portland, and that probably weighs on him.

Even if Dame wins a title in Miami, they won two last decade and one the decade prior. It'll like be more of a Butler/Bam title than his. Wade and LeBron will be considered better title winners, and likely Shaq as well too. Dame will probably be in the conversation with Haslem, Ray Allen, and Chris Bosh for the key Heat players that assisted in winning a title.

If he wins a title in PDX it might be the most impressive of this century in the whole NBA up their with Dirk and cement him in history. I think he would greatly prefer that chance, but he wants to have some sliver of a chance here.

Yeah. Also, I know he and others around him says he doesn't care about what anyone else thinks, but I think all the folks telling him to leave and run from the grind actually makes him want to stay more than it makes him want to leave. Just a hunch.

Best hope to keeping him is maybe convincing him that shit happens in the NBA and you never know when Embiid or Giannis or whoever may come available out of nowhere. No one thought Harden opting in to get traded was even an option till it happened.

Maybe Blazers have tentative agreement for Cam Johnson or an unrestricted MLE free agent Dame is good with? Cronin also has tentative agreement with Grant.

Or Miami is pivoting because the Blazers and Nets have agreed on the framework of a deal and Dame told Bam.

This could go any direction :NOTMARIS:

I don't know for sure what he thinks or would think, but I am guessing that Durant doesn't regret winning titles with Golden State in spite of the team's success before and after him being there.

It was apparent Durant was very upset he didn't get the credit and it all went to Steph even when he was finals MVP. He might have enough ego to think he could've got the title in many cities and got the bulk of the credit. He sure didn't seem extremely happy in Golden State even with the two titles.

Dame going to a Miami isn't a guarantee he gets a title either. Yes I think he'd rather have a chance at one there then no chance here. But if he had a real chance here even if it was much lower I think he would greatly prefer that. He doesn't want a 0% chance though.

Called a bunch of stuff like Harden opting in to get traded way before Woj.

Some interesting ones:

KAT to PHX or DAL maybe.

"Please make up your mind Dame" <- Whatever this means

What is the handle

Harden and Luka would be worse than Irving and Luka.

As much of a flaky guy as Harden is he still way better than Luka and carried a team to a quarter from beating one of the best warriors teams of all time. I'd much prefer him if I'm Dallas.

Although both of these guys have major issues.
