Notice 2023 Blazers Free Agency

KAT I could stomach (even though I hate the contact) but we better not be making a play for PG or Harden.

Considering the guys they let go today (or yesterday?) and not signing any new guys yet today, my guess is that Cronin is working on something big. Possibly has to wait to see what team got left out in free agency bidding and also where Harden goes and who he gets traded for. If somehow things go well, then I think there might be a good trade that might make us happy. If things don't go well, then the team will probably look much the same and they will pick up a few minimum players to fill out the roster. And then try again at the trade deadline....
hope springs a turtle

LMAO been hearing this for 2 years ever since the Clippers trade was announced.

Cronin is a more conservative Olshey with a bigger love of short guards. I'll give it to him he is quite good at tanking though.

gotta hand it to you for sticking to your guns :)

as time goes on, obviously Ant's contract will look 'better' when compared to many of the newer deals. The salary cap is 34% larger now than when Ant entered the league. Ant's first year salary as a 24th pick was 1.8M. Kris Murray's 1st year salary as a 23rd pick will be close to 3M.

Ant can do some things at a pretty decent level, but he does have some major limitations. To my eyes, and to many other's, Ant ideal role is as a 6th man where defense isn't critical; or maybe as a 3rd-4th option as a PG on teams that have solid facilitators in the front court (like Toronto). His 26M/year salary is starter money though, and he's an awkward fit on most starting units, especially one with Dame (& Scoot)

Hey Joe, make some calls about this.

4 team idea before i call it a night.

To POR (balances rotation):
Ayton
Kuminga

To SAS (adds the perfect young guard for Wemby on a reasonable contract locked in long term):
Simons

To GSW (adds a big and addresses Kuminga's trade request):
Collins
Protected first from SA via CHA

To PHX (instantly saves them close to 10 mil/yr while adding depth):
Nurk
Nas
2 seconds from POR

We are left with:

Dame / Scoot
Sharpe/ Scoot
Kuminga / Thybulle
Grant / Murray
Ayton / ?

A team for the future with Scoot/Sharpe/Kuminga/Ayton is enticing.

Remember Cronin is the GM but billups has his hands in it too. If that's true then we need evaluate our head coach.
I've never seen a head coach make so many in-game mistakes, while having an outcry of support from the local fanbase. "Well, he's better then Stotts!"

Ummmm.... no

In general, the current coach is often considered to be an awful coach by a sub-group of the fans. Make note of who is in that group and weight their other opinions/takes accordingly.

his value goes up if he starts playing good defense and grows a couple of inches. It won't go up because Bane makes 40M or Grant makes 30M
Jerami grant is a few inches taller and plays defense and shoots 40% from 3 as well…and his contract value (3M/yr more than Ant) is being crushed in here for some reason.

I don't think Cronin is dedicated to Dame like he says.

Not sure it's fair to draw that conclusion. I think it's more a case that he's dedicated to the team and the organization more than he is to Dame -- which he should be -- but that doesn't mean having Dame be part of that isn't a big priority, too.
