A career .291 3pt shooter

Every single time Nurk has shot more than 1.3 3pt attempts per game in a season he has shot above 36.0%

I think Herbert Jones got a little overrated. He's a decent role player who plays good defense. But he's not a lock-down defender, nor a good perimeter shooter. Solid, not special, and he'll be 25 when next season starts. By the way, Jones plays PF and he has a lower career rebound rate than Jerami Grant
This year's Aminu signing?

Someone (POR probably can't) should make a big offer for Herb that the Pelicans can't match for that dumb idea.

Blazers don't have any cap space to give an offer. Yeah it would be funny if Sacramento/Detroir/SAS/Hou etc did that. Herb is awesome.

My bad--didn't realize. Still--if he receives an offer greater than the MLE, I don't believe they're permitted to match. Or does the Arenas provision eliminate that possibility? I always forget how that works.

Pelicans can match any offer just like the Lakers with Austin Reves. Yeah the salary breakdown over multiple years could be wonky if they dont have the space to match this year, something like 10 mil 10 mil 30 mil 30 mil.

He's a RFA currently. And would have been next year as well, which makes this move puzzling, missing out on one more cheap year from him.
False, Herb Jones would've been an UFA next summer. Houston had this issue with Chandler Parsons then declined to match his Dallas offer.

Dallas later used the cheap season with Brunson then he left the next year in UFA. Teams can screw this up either way.

Max Pelicans can offer Jones is 4 years $53 million. Other teams can offer more (I believe 4 years $100 million or something) and Pelicans can then match that but they will get a funky contract that goes from 10 million next year to 25 million or more the latter seasons.

New Orleans could have elected to accept the team option, keeping Jones’ salary at $1.8 million. However, he would have been an unrestricted free agent next offseason. Keeping him restricted allows the Pelicans to match any offer another team throws at Jones.

Totally disagree, he's an excellent defender.

Theres a new ESPN Insider guide on free agency for each team. I laughed at the Blazers depth chart;

I mean yeah Sharpe can swing to forward, I just thought that would be SF not PF, and Simons can swing up a position, which I assume was from PG to SG - not SG to SF. I didn't realize this is how we are rolling with the quad guard lineup. Somewhere Neil Olshey is smiling in approval.

I'm not sure that article is accurate:

next season would have been his 3rd season. He was a 2nd round pick and the Pelicans signed him to a 3 year deal. So they used an exception. I thought that made him restricted after his 3rd season

Here is a highlight Vid of that Hall guy -- looks promising but it was Euro league -- warning has rap soundtrack that is mature so fair warning

Dunk highlight videos, like three point makes videos, are generally worthless and boring. However I did see two positives: Dude jumps high, and he plays with fire. If he is the reason we released Trendon, in Schmidt I trust.

Isn't that Larry Coons FAQ? Thats just a summary of the CBA, its not authoritive or encompassing of 100% of situations.

I haven't heard any report that he would be a RFA next summer, there is an article he would be an UFA next summer, and the Pelicans actions would make much more sense if he was going to be an UFA next summer. All signs strongly point to him only being a RFA this summer and UFA next summer. But I would be happy to see evidence to the contrary.

Ya I agree he seems like a 3rd Center type we bring in while we get a older Vet big who might be kind of limited by minutes and need someone to fill in for 5 to 10 per game at times and of course a gamble that might pay off. Also imagine him getting fed by Scoot that could be fun too but I guess we wait and see if anything comes from this rumor.

Also Larry Coon's site hasn't been updated with the new CBA yet, to my knoweldge.

Second bullet point says 3 of fewer seasons are restricted FA. This applies to Jones.

I believe the new CBA won't impact this as RFA/UFA is a condition of the contract when signed (thus the prior CBA in effect when Herb signed his deal).

Fischer says we're interested in Max Strus....

https://sports.yahoo.com/2023-nba-f...en-to-end-up-with-the-clippers-171832820.html

Heat shooter Max Strus appears to be the next in line after Brown in terms of widespread interest that includes Cleveland and Portland, sources said. Strus’ representation has told inquiring teams he will command upward of $16 million in average annual value. So for Strus to land with the Cavaliers, and he’s believed to be Cleveland’s top choice following Brown, league sources have indicated the possibility of a sign-and-trade that would bring Strus to the Cavs at a dollar figure at about the mid-level exception.

Another strong candidate for the Suns is former Blazers center Drew Eubanks, sources said.
