It seems to me the fans had more of a rooting interest when it was East vs West. This picking the teams like junior high school is lame as shit and does not increase anyone's interest in tuning in.

Then there is the ridiculous "game" itself. Players literally standing motionless next to "opponents" watching them dunk and shoot without lifting a finger. That's okay, I guess, for a free exhibition at the B&G Club, but it sure as shit isn't in any way shape or form a "game."

The players used to have a financial interest in winning the All Star Game. But the fact is the All Stars make so fucking much money now that there is no way to incentivise playing an even moderately competitive game. They might as well roll 20 balls out onto the court and we can watch them all working on their dunks and half court shots for an hour.

I think we need a US v The World ASG.

There are just no guys as popular as Michael Jordan in the league now. Viewership for Finals with Jordan were around 18 million. A LeBron Finals will draw like 7 million a lot of the time. 1993 ASG drew 23 million. This year, was less than 6 million. It’s something to add to the GOAT debate. LeBron isn’t even close to Jordan in popularity.

They need to play the ASG on the moon. The lower gravity would be awesome!

Jordan will always be the GOAT.

I liked the playground picking.

The game itself though yeah. No defense, selfishness, and ego are a bad mix and a boring one to watch. It's not really a game. It was humorous to listen to Lebron and Giannis be so competitive about, my team is going to win, and then it's not really a game to begin with. It's just whatever team makes the most free shots. There were only three or four fouls called. That's not a game. These guys didn't even break a sweat. Tatum got MVP, but what is that here. He just hit the most open shots. Getting easier to do. He scored the most points in the history of ASG's, but how much of an achievement is that really, when there is no defense?

It’s not an achievement. Everything you said is right. It wasn’t a game. Can you imagine paying $200 to sit in the rafters for that game?

No. I'd never pay for that.

The game was not fun and they didn’t look like they were having much fun. There used to be some pride in demonstrating that you are the best of the best. This year, they were just standing around. Tatum’s record is meaningless. Any player could’ve scored 54. Kobe and MJ took it seriously. So did AI and McGrady. All Star MVP was a real accomplishment. Also the way they score the game now is way too confusing for a casual fan. They keep starting at 0-0 at the start of each quarter. How does some guy watching at a bar even follow that? And what is the entertainment value of 5 guys literally standing still as Ja Morant drives into the paint and dunks? It wasn’t always like this.
Well-said. It’s ridiculous that the NBA thinks players standing around and letting the other team score can be called a “game.” It’s not. It’s a circus freak show.
