2023 TRAIL BLAZERS TRAINING CAMP THREAD

Have we ever had a team without a "white" player on it before? I can't remember a squad without a Joe Klein or Meyers Leonard or Steve Blake. Not that it matters at all I just thought it was a change from the Blazers history of rosters.

I can't find one; lots of years we only had one (Drazen, Ainge, Joe Wolf hahaha) but never zero that I could find.

Bruh 41 wins? With this team? Vegas has us I think at 28? You'd say it's a disappointment if he went 12 games above a projection?

We will be lucky to get 30 wins and that'd be a successful year with this current iteration in this current timeline.

I just don’t see us doing the level of tanking that it takes to be that bad. I think we’re much better defensively than we’ve been in a long time which will cover up some of the young guys mistakes.

My prediction is mid 30’s on wins. Possibility of maybe 40 if everyone stays healthy and the young’s guards progress.

Ah yes back in the era when Ed O thought being drafted at 23 meant their ceiling was low
The more things change, the more they stay the same...

A player who's drafted at 23 has a lower ceiling than a player drafted in the same spot who's 19 or 20. That's basic logic and is as true now as it was in 2011 as it was in 2001. The dude was an utter waste of a pick, just as I felt he was going to be.

Well, that's not true as phrased. A player's ceiling is entirely individual. Damian Lillard at 23 had a far greater ceiling than Sebastain Telfair at 18. Now, you could argue that due to physical, mental, and emotional development, that Dame was closer to his ceiling when he was drafted than Telfair due to his age and development (or that his ceiling and/or his ability to reach it is more speculative)... but his ceiling itself doesn't change.

Why do people so have so much trouble linking Twitter? I don’t generate a link. I just copy the link out of the address bar at the top and I never have an issue.

Oooh, trying now. LOL NOPE. No idea what you are talking about

And if he'd been drafted at 19 years old, he'd have been exactly as bad. Ceiling is ceiling.

In this scenario, how many minutes do you see him at PF, and how many at the backup center when DA is not on the floor?

From Chauncey's answer on the video, it sounds like he understands that starting him is not an option, but that playing them together when needed..... is an option. That makes the most sense to me as well. I don't think Williams is a 30+ minute-a-night guy. So what's your breakdown.... minutes-wise
If Williams is 100% healthy and no one is worried about wear and tear, then I would play him as many minutes as he can prove he is benefitting the team. If there are health concerns, then I probably wouldn't have made the trade.

Also, I would like to experiment with DA as PF and Williams as center.

According to Dame himself, Ant is replacing the franchise superstar. Ant is the face on the Blazers homepage media first. I didn't make these decisions but there they are.

Okay but were talking the real world here. Dame doesn't dictate the lineup, who replaces who, etc.

This seems like a red herring response. Everyone knows who is replacing Dame…

Well, if we want to replace a small shooting guard with another small shooting guard, Simons is the answer.
