PREDICT THAT PICK

What # first round picks will the Blazers end up with after the lottery?

It's weird to me that they chose to have this on a Sunday, and it's Mothers Day so people will be extra busy doing family/mom stuff.

Or else they will be looking for an excuse to get away from the family for a few minutes and in front of the TV.

Think my ideal pick is Blazers at #1 and Warriors at #4.

Although just keeping the Warriors pick at #14 might be ok, certainly some risk its worse next year. 96.6% chance it ends up at #14 this year.

#8 for the Blazers is the horrific outcome and it does have a real nonzero chance - 2.2%.
#7 sucks as well, 16.4% chance of that.
#6 appears to be the most likely Blazers pick even though over 75% chance we don't have that.

Probably the biggest Blazers event since last year lottery? Although the reward is a fraction of Wemby. Dame trade was probably more impactful but there wasn't any exact date to expect it.

I remember it going to commercial with us, CHA, and SAS not called. I was so ready to get Wemby, then we got revealed next. Damn.

Anyone have any thoughts on Salaun with our second pick?
I'd be fully onboard with a French-connection front court. Rupert-Salaun-Sarr sounds enticing.

I’ve worked the last 20 Mother’s Day, no joke.

In 2006 we got Roy who went #6.

In 2012 we got Lillard with the #6.

In 2018 we got Simons with the #24.

The number 6 and its multiples come up in my life a lot so I’m going to say that we end up with the #6 pick in 2024 and that player will be better than expected.

@SharpesTriumph ,,,,agreed. If the Blazers could get #1 and GS #4 where their pick owed to us gets pushed to next year in a what is projected to be a much better Draft, I'm all good with that. It's only Top-1 protected and it's although it could happen, it's tough to see the ageing Warriors getting better.

Houston was in there too before the commercial ... they cut away before the top 4 now. Man the anxiety of that commercial break and then the begging of it just not to be San Antonio at #1. ugggggghhhhh

#6 is very likely to be our landing spot. But Charlotte actually has a better chance at dropping to 6 than us.

Im sure you make it up!
I was a road warrior for 40 years and know how it feels to miss something important. The only thing I could do is try and make it up to them, never missed a day in calling home. When I retired and I did so at 62 as an offset from being gone so much. I figured and extra 4 years without a travel would help. However my wife wouldn't stand me being around so much................................just bs ing.

I legitimately hope we do NOT move up in the draft.

Yes, of course in theory you can't lose by having more options, and getting #1 gives you 100% of options
BUT
This is a draft that essentially has no first round, it's all second-round. It's that bad. And when you have a high pick you are pretty much forced to take the big swing. And I think the top three or four ranked players look like busts. This is a draft where the team that picks #1 ends up with Anthony Bennett/Olowokandi/Kwame Brown.
PLUS (and this is a stupid reason but) I don't want to waste any good "moving up in the draft" mojo this year when we want to save it for better drafts.

I certainly see your points, especially about the mojo. Lets get number one next year. To expand, lets all admit that we could see Bennett/Olowokandi/Brown as busts. Why GM's don't see the mediocrity is beyond me. I also did not see why anyone would draft Hasheem Thabeet. Lunacy! Also, Look at the Portland history with number one; Larue Martin, Bill Walton and Greg Oden. Throw in Sam Bowie at three. Painful! I'm afraid if Portland drafted Sarr his dick would fall off or something flukey!

And these guys are slotted in money wise….. ouch.

or......we just take the best player available and pretend it is a 2nd round pick. That way we get a good young player with no hype and no expectations.

The last time a #1 pick was a surprise was... Anthony Bennett! In theory somebody could've drafted Jokic or Giannis #1 but no GM has the balls.

A better suggestion would be to trade down, as Nellie did to draft Dirk Nowitzki. But that's always a gamble - no GM wants to end up looking like the Atlanta GM who traded Luka for Trae Young.

Salary wise it's a bigger commitment

We don't need to get #1 but 9-10 million a year for a good young player won't kill us.

Again this draft is not that bad. There just aren't any who will be ready their first year. But do we really care about that?
Aren't we thinking long term?

Was Fultz before or after Bennett?

Ha you are actually making my case that comparatively speaking this draft is not that bad.

But serious questions for the "guys you trust" on this subject. Ask them for an honest assessment between
Risacher and the number 2 pick last year.....Brandon Miller. Ask them how much better Miller will end up being than Risacher.

And while you are at it ask them how much better Scoot will turn out than Topic.

I am not saying this sarcastically ......I would honestly like to know what they think. My guess is that because they are both international players, they really won't be sure who will end up better. That goes for Sarr as well. Obviously, they won't be generational talents like Victor, but we all know he is an exception.

Also, ask them about the long-term projection for Buzelis and Cody Williams

If these guys really know what they are talking about, and they say that all of these forwards I mentioned are worthless picks, then I will start whining about this draft like the rest of you.

Didn't Boston get #1 then flip that for an asset plus Tatum (#3)?

I'm all for getting #1, it's known this draft is weak. Our pick could bust at #1 or #4 or #8. Higher gives better options and on average a better player.
